Lunar: Harmony of Silver Star [PSP Remake]
cj iwakuraThe Rhythm RegentBears The Name FreedomRegistered Userregular
Revealed via early release of this week's Famitsu magazine, "LUNAR: Harmony of Silver Star" for PSP aims to keep the feel of the 1992 Sega CD original and 1996 Saturn/PSone remakes, but completely revamps the graphics and interface to bring them in line with 21st century standards. The view is now isometric, with lush hand-drawn backgrounds and characters. Publisher Gungho promises new events, remastered music, and an expanded backstory.
Best of all, perhaps, the PSP Lunar remake isn't outsourced: Famitsu identifies the developer as Game Arts themselves.
You can read a translation of the Famitsu article, c/o Lunar-Net, here.
The Playstation versions are only bad if you're a whiny fanboy, cj. You're not a whiny fanboy, are you? :P
(well, the Bolgin fight was a lot better in the Sega CD version. Because when you won that fight you fuckin' deserved it)

Well, I am a stickler for the originals... but Eternal Blue Complete's changes weren't as dire as Silver Star's. They just made Zophar look stupid, and took out the Star Dragon guardian.

And yeah, Borgan.
Zophar always looked stupid and the Star Dragon Guardian was entirely extraneous.

Okay, stupider. He was also a pushover in the remakes(but who wasn't?).
Also, Jesus, another remake of Silver Star? That's the third remake of Silver Star in history. I mean the game's been out of print for a bit but holy god, could we move on to some new content or give EB its due again?
Dragon Song never happened it is not new content
Also do we have a date on this or just an announcement, those screens make it look pretty far along.
Aroduc thinks the characters in Eternal Blue had no connection to the plot.
Aroduc, it goes without saying, is insane.

This looks even more polished than Complete, and that's saying something. I can't wait to see it in motion.
If it does come to the states, I just hope Ubisoft stays far away from it.
And Eternal Blue was really amazing when you compare it to the predecessor on the Sega CD. It was like five times the length of the original, with more animation, voice acting, the works. There isn't much comparison between the Completes.
I thought Silver Star Story complete was pretty hard I mean at least the final boss fight but then again I didn't really do much power leveling so I don't know [tiny]I mean it's not like you even had that many options for customization you know at least not as far as I can remember[/tiny]
A date is buried in the article: Fall 2009. Sooner than I expected.
Also a company named GungHo is producing the remake and I am unfamiliar with their works. They have also done a Grandia apparently, though, so they are evidently linked to GameArts in some fashion.
EDIT: Check that, GungHo is the publisher. This is a GameArts joint directly.

It's worth mentioning that the original Lunar devs haven't been involved with GameArts for some time. There was a lengthy write-up about it at Lunar.net at one point, but basically, they weren't involved in the remakes, which is why they're so drastically different, and they had a falling out over it.
The last game they did was Magical School Lunar on the Saturn(which was also on the game gear or something, I think), which is why it's so similar to the originals.
This thread reminds me that I never beat Eternal Blue and now I'm a bit sad. Just a little. Fuck that last boss (or second to last boss, it's hard to tell, you know how it is, you kill a boss and it's over but wait let me show you my TRUE POWER). I kept dying and I couldn't stand having to sit through the unskippable cutscene and dialogue.
The save system in Eternal Blue for Sega CD was just plain ridiculous, and stopped me from playing it to completion
Removing it definitely made the PS1 remake a lot more playable. Also, I still found the PS1 version difficult even after they apparently toned down the difficulty in many areas

The save XP was added to the US version, for reasons only Victor Ireland knows. I didn't find it that difficult, it just forces you to save wisely.
The save system in EB was awful. I didn't notice it as much when I was a kid and had hours and hours to just sit and play, but now that I'm a grown up that can sneak in an hour or two at a time, having to pay exponentially to save would be a huge dealbreaker.

Wow, it would be SUPER cool if Gaijinworks got this. I can't imagine Lunar being properly handled in the hands of anyone else.
Not involved with it. Not against doing it, just not involved. All the rights were sold back to Game Arts years ago. Whether we are involved or not in the localization, I *pray* it's handled well.
Gaijinworks really hasn't done anything for three years and is only now "assisting" with that one Hudson game. I don't think old Vic is really in a position to try and get something like this released.
I suspect it'd be a four-way brawl between Atlus, XSeed, NISA, and newcomer Ignition for the title.

I have fond memories of Lunar: Silver Star, both the Sega CD & PS1 versions so I'd be willing to give a new version a spin, especially as I no longer own the game. Lunar: Eternal Blue is where it's really at though (it was my first Sega CD game and I later bought the Saturn & PS1 versions).

If it came out here, would it be the Working Designs version?
(I miss their preorder goodies )
Looks like an enhanced remake of Silver Star Story Complete. There's definitely new stuff there.
The overworld's never looked that good.
The Sega CD original would make an awesome unlock, but it'll never happen.

Suck it, Eternal Blue.

Awwww... you remembered. I'm touched.

^That's the Star Dragon, for the unfamiliar. You first run into him after meeting Lemina, and he's tough as nails.
3DS: 1607-3034-6970
I even remember where to find the in-game music player on the PS1 version.
I can has cheezburger, yes?
He's the guardian of the Blue Spire, and he's the last obstacle in the Epilogue before Hiro can chase Lucia there.
The Sega CD one was the soundtrack. Put it in any CD player, and you have access to every audio and dialogue track in the game.
Eternal Blue's also had the two vocal themes, but that was it unfortunately.

The original version of that scene was so much better.
Cold blooded.
