Is there a "do a reasonable amount of damage" button I'm supposed to press when I play Scout?

Edit: And don't say M1 you fuckers

Only idiots use the fan with the scout. stupid idiots who cant aim.

Only scouts that can aim (read: not me) can use the FaN.

If your good at scout the scattergun is better. It does nearly the same damage as the FaN, with almost 4x the ammo clip. The FaN is only useful in certain situations, or to annoy people. Being a FaN and Sandman scout=Huge Annoying Fuck to the opposing team.

Regardless of which is 'better', only the scouts with excellent aim can really make use of the FaN. I am twitchy as hell, so out of my six scattergun shots, I can usually land a few solidly, and overall comport myself well. FaN I miss way, way too much to be of any use with.

Oh God. I didn't even know there was such a thing.

Now I won't be able to sleep tonight.

Chaining 2-3 kills in one run as scout is pretty awesome, before running away and reloading all 6 shots. Fact is that 6 shots provides more firepower than 2 shots, and I am pretty sure that you cannot unload 6 FaN shots in the same time as 6 scattergun shots.

But like you said, the FaN is more for survival. You shoot them twice, disorienting them, and zoom behind cover. Then while they're hurt and looking for you, you come around another way and get two more shots in. It can allow you to completely control the position of you and your enemy. I love knocking demos forward into sentries, pinning medics to the wall, and blasting that rocket jumping soldier off trajectory.

Why don't I play scout more again?

    The Abe Lincoln quotes though.

He was really into espionage and stuff like that, I bet that's a sly reference.
Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was the 16th President of the United States. He successfully led the country through its greatest internal crisis, the American Civil War, preserving the Union and ending slavery. As the war was drawing to a close, Lincoln became the first American president to have an espionage division. This spy organization would eventually form the basis for the modern CIA. Before his election in 1860 as the first Republican president, Lincoln had been a country lawyer, an Illinois state legislator, a member of the United States House of Representatives, and twice an unsuccessful candidate for election to the U.S. Senate.

The problem with the FaN is that it takes entirely too high an investment of time and effort to get competent with it. You have to be a really good scout; you have to really know the map well enough to take advantage of the mobility; and then you have to practice with it to get the hang of the playstyle differences... and then when all's said and done, 9 times out of 10 that amazing scout with the FaN could do the same thing with the scattergun, except without the extra effort spent learning/relearning strategy.

Not that it's bad; in the right hands the FaN is disgustingly powerful and you will become infuriated at the one using it as he eliminates targets like a surgeon and vanishes never to be seen after each kill. But there's barely anyone who can do that compared to the masses who use the FaN anyway; there are maybe two people on the PA servers capable of using the FaN to its fullest extent. Most of the other people I see using it just piss away their ammo ineffectually and never make much of a difference.

Me, I only use it on offense in Badwater because it has a disproportionate amount of spots where the triple jump comes in handy.

Eh, gotta say I'm not a big fan of the Razorback. In the end I don't think it will effect my gameplay as a spy TOO much, I'll probably just avoid snipers a bit more if they have it.

I just don't like the idea of giving any class an item that lets them get around a designed weakness.

I expect to hear as big of a hubbub if spies get a flame retardant suit that makes pyro flame throwers go on cooldown for a few seconds.

On the other hand, it might turn out that the razorback is a non-issue, especially if it slows down your movement speed enough that you become much easier to kill by other snipers.

Anyways, had fun playing on the server last night, first time in months that I got into the PA servers.

That's pretty interesting. But I think he's overlooking how it's going to work.

Right now the wrist watch functions as the right mouse click for every weapon. Meaning that if the new watch replaces right click with feign death, are you unable to cloak, or does it become an item that you have to bring out to use?

My guess, judging from the teaser picture shows the dead spy on the ground, then a living spy uncloaking behind him, is that - if it is a golden pocket watch - it probably just leaves a doppelganger on the ground and puts you into a probably shorter duration cloak.

I wonder if the giveaway is going to be the death ticker in the corner, will it register a kill?

    So many unanswered questions!

If they do something like that I would imagine that when you activate the feign death a ragdoll drops or whatnot, then you get instacloak (and possibly more, or it's usefullness decreases) for a set length of time to give you an opportunity to leave the immediate area.

What would it even replace? If that revolver is a new gun then it can't be that. Decoys don't seem like a fair trade off to either the knife or the sapper. If I had to guess, though, it would be the sapper. Seems like the "watch" would be used to get away once you've stabbed someone.

Maybe it's a weak, short duration cloak, and you can backstab from it.

Imagine the panic that would cause. DID I KILL HIM OR NOT!? I CAN'T TELL! *stab*

I suppose the downside would be it either takes the sapper away, or completely drains your cloak meter.

Well, I think the three things in the item locker for spies to be replaced are the Revolver, knife and wrist watch. So I think it's a wrist watch replacement.

Hence my curiosity of how it would even work. Simply because the watch is the cloak and is tied to the alt-fire for every weapon. So replacing it means that you only get one button for it, unlike other things like the pyro's flamethrower which has two modes of fire.

Meaning a feign death on the watch would either replace the cloak, or become an added feature to the cloak (which presumably means there would be a disadvantage like only having 5 seconds of cloak).

In that case, I think I'd probably stick with the regular watch.

Hidden? No, people want phat shiny lewts. It'll be visible. That's part of it, to deter a spy from stabbing you, maybe they'll just go "fuck it" and stab the other guy. You could use your pistol but that is no where near as satisfying.

But I cannot for the life of me think of any reason why any spy with half a brain who knows what the razorback does would even consider backstabbing a sniper with this thing if they could see it. It just doesn't make any sense. Unless the "shock" is mild, the sniper isn't informed that his razorback just got consumed, and he gets his knife back faster than he could shoot him down, it just wouldn't make any sort of sense. And if this is how the razorback worked, it would be pretty useless, even more so than the SMG.

Also if people want shiny phat loot I'm sure it's entirely possible that teammates and the sniper can see it but not the other team.

Edit: engis can upgrade their teles and dispensers now. It is p cool. Medics received an update a long ass time ago like the scout, are you familiar with that? Otherwise, they just made the kritzkrieg charge faster. To great effect.
