It seems odd that they're only now discovering this. Have they never autopsied a dead kimodo dragon before? Seems like you'd notice twelve venom glands just hangin out there.

Edit: whoops, misread. It was six on each side of the lower jaw.

I was thinking the same thing, but it really illustrates how many species we don't really know all that much about

it is rather odd that biologists seem to have inferred whether or not they have venom glands largely based on the effect their bites have rather than actually doing an autopsy

Yeah, exactly. It's pretty interesting and a great discovery nonetheless, just strikes me as funny.

Urgh my first thought regarding the lack of komodo autopsies is that they need to place a new biocontainment facility before the next mission

God I even managed to nerd up the science thread, that is hardcore

Too right. It turns out that we didn't only out-compete Neanderthals, we may have eaten the poor bastards as well.

"The cuts to the bone are similar to those left on those of deer and other animals butchered by humans in the Stone Age. It is believed that the flesh was eaten by humans and the teeth used to make a necklace."

    Hardcore.
