Can Someone Explain Printer calibration to me?

maximumzeromaximumzero I...wait, what?New Orleans, LARegistered User regular
I work in a small awards company and I'm printing to a Epson Stylus 1400 that uses sublimation ink. I use Corel and Photoshop.

Earlier today I printed a layout that had a dark green logo at the top of the page. On the screen it looked great but it printed out straight black on the printer. I printed this from Corel.

When I printed said logo from Photoshop it looked much better, while not perfect, was definitely a huge improvement.

Can anyone explain how to calibrate my printer? Where I can get calibration files from?

most likely culprit: its not calibration, its color modes.
make sure you are using cmyk color for any media that goes to print. using pantone chips and books can help as well. you punch in a pms number, you get that number.

after that we can get into color profiles, SWOP, sRGB, adobe sRGB(1998), apple RBG.... never mind printer profiles.

espcially when you start mixing different products, (adobe to corel) you can get wild shifts of color.

there are literally books on the subject. there are people who get degrees in this stuff. the 'right' way is to buy or borrow something like a pantone huey:

You are using subliminal ink? I think I see your problem right there... ;)
