What are some bass lines that everybody knows? They can be older (play that funky music) or more modern (under the bridge by rhcp) so long as they are recognizable to people with just a passing familiarity with bass.
Recognizable bass lines I can think of off the top of my head:
Queen - Under Pressure, Another One Bites the Dust
Pink Floyd - Money
Pearl Jam - Jeremy (or really most of Ten)
Nirvana - Lithium, Teen Spirit, etc.
Kansas - Carry On My Wayward Son
Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
The Breeders - Cannonball

I lean towards metal, but the opening to Peace Sells by Megadeth is pretty recognisable. Same goes for Anesthesia - Pulling Teeth by Metallica.
I knew this was going to come up. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as a rabid White Stripes fan I was led under the impression that its not a bass line in "Seven Nation Army" it's just the way he put the guitar makes it sound like a bass line.

It is a bassline, he just played a guitar with an effect pedal to bring it down an octave. It doesnt have to be performed on a bass guitar to be a bassline, just fill the role and be in the low end of the sonic spectrum. Bass parts played on a keyboard are still basslines for example.

While jack white doesn't play it on bass, Seven Nation Army is played with a digitech pedal that lowers the sound, so i guess it could count as a bassline...
