Which reminds me of a conversation with my wife last night. We were watching a cookery programme where one of the judges remarked "if this dish were my girlfriend, I would happily take it home to meet my mother."
The wife asked me, "would you go out with food dear?"
There's a tiny little kitten outside who keeps mewing at me, and I feel bad, because it runs away whenever I try to get near it. A few hours ago, one of my friends brought a can of catfood for it, which made me feel a little better (the cat ate about half of it). It's so small, it could fit in the palm of my hand. Poor kitty!
There are actually a lot of feral cats and dogs in Savannah, it's kinda surprising how often you see 'em.

A similar thing happened to me a while back when I went to get pizza. Scared kitten, but wouldn't let me get close to it.
Also, when I was off doing work experience at an animal shelter, there was a kitten there who was only two, maybe three weeks old. It was always mewing and never wanted to be left alone. At one point, when I was sitting down, it crawled entirely inside one of my pockets. I guess it was warm in there.
At least he had a few surrogate siblings who treated him okay.
