Whenever I try to play a Source game, I get an error saying "Failed to create D3D device!" This has never happened before, what should I do?

I'm assuming D3D is referring to direct 3d. try reinstalling/updating your video driver. what version of windows are you running and what game are you trying to play?

I updated my driver, and all my source games (CSS, Day of Defeat, Gmod, Hl2 Deathmatch, and TF2) won't work. Everything else will.

I've run into this problem as well when using ATi video cards. If updating the drivers don't work, try forcing the game to run in an older version of directX by using the command line option through steam. I don't remember exactly, but its something like -forcedxlevel X. Steam support would have more info about it.

Running as admin didn't work, and the Directx thing didn't work either. Also, the command is -directxlevel y, where y is the number.

Eventually forcing DirectX stopped working for me as well (after a TF2 update) so my fix was to get an Nvidia card, beyond that I have no ideas. :P

Got it! All I had to do was uninstall Steam. Thanks for the help anyways.
