PS3 fun [freezing loading screen]

So after the previous problems with my 40gb ps3, my dad surprised me with a 80 gb ps3,
However after trying to copy the game saves from the old one, it's stoped playing games. It'll play ps2 games fine, and it will often load ps3 games and make it all the way to a loading screen but will freeze up, and upon going back to the XMB and quitting the screen will go black and the system will beep three times.

Am I boned, once again?

Was your 80 gig PS3 patched to the same update as your 40 gig was before you copied the saves over?

Also, had you tried playing the games on the 80 gig before you copied the saves?

I'm 90% sure they were all patched the same, but the 80 gig was working great prior to me trying to copy the saves.

The 3 beeps is just a generic "there's a problem" warning by the way, it's not like a red ring.

You could always try backing up your 40 gig (is that possible? I didn't read your other thread, you'd have to be able to actually get into the XMB of course) then restoring on your 80 gig.

Well that's good, at least it's not a death kneel, just an issue.

I've tried restoring it once or twice, but havent had much luck. Could it be an issue with the hard-drive or the firmware since it only started acting crazy when i tried to copy the saves?

What was wrong with your 40 gig? It sounds like some kind of data corruption with your saves honestly.

Sorry for leaving that part out. It just wasnt reading games at all. It would just load, and load, and load, but never pop up with anything on the XMB.

Have you tried deleting the saves off the new 80 gig and seeing if PS3 games work again?

Yeah, no dice. I've tried formating it and everything.

Google's really not producing anything worthwhile, a lot of results for specific game saves that won't load but nothing for this exact problem. It honestly sounds like something you copied over corrupted the new HDD in some way.

Why don't you just go exchange it for a new one?
