Replacing Blinds

So my cat kind of fucked up the blinds in one of the bedrooms, and I am moving out on the 31st. What would be the best way going about replacing the blinds? Would it be easier to just have the apartment complex deduct it from my deposit? Also, if I were to replace the blinds, where would I get them at?

Do not let the apartment complex take are of this, because they can charge you whatever the hell they like for labour.

What kind of blinds were they? You can get really really cheap plastic blinds (I'm assuming you mean horizontal blinds) for like $2-$15 depending on the size. They're also very easy to install, especially since you've already got the fixtures in and you just need to swap them out.

They are cheap blinds. The ends on some of the rows just kind of snapped off. It is very wide though, as it covers two windows. What I figure is I would just need to measure them, bring in one of the snapped off pieces for size and color reference, and go from there. Would Home Depot or Lowes be the best place?

Neither. Go to Walmart, Zellers, etc. Whatever cheap stores you have in your area.

If they are plastic, you can get them for dirt cheap. Just measure the bar at the top of the blinds. Chances are, if they're cheap they aren't custom cut and you can find the size without a problem.

Definitely bring in a cut off piece of the blind for colour reference. You won't need "size" reference on that because they are usually all the same thickness.

Edit: And make sure you're getting plastic. You'll probably run across some $30-$60 ones that are aluminum or faux wood or something.

Also, when you say "two windows," do you just mean the standard master bedroom size window? You should be fine.

I just went to Wal-Mart and they only had blinds for smaller windows. I need a 68 1/2 (Width) by 70 (Height) that is a light beige/almond color. Any other suggestions where I could go to?

go to home depot or lowes, not the cheapest place you can find them, but you'll certainly find them there. and not knowing where you live/what stores you have in your area makes it hard for us to choose otherwise

Try the lower-end stores first. I don't think Lowes or Home Depot would have the plastic variety, and that would basically multiply your costs by 4 or 5.

Just call them and ask to save time.

just FYI: you're not going to find blinds that wide in stock at most stores

if they look like the cheap blinds sold in stores, you can probably get away with swapping the one wide set for two narrow sets

Are there extra slats on the bottom not in use? That is, if fully down, are there slats sitting on the bottom?

If just slats are damaged, you can take out ones from the bottom and "re-thread" them to replace the broken ones. To give you an idea: eHow
