Fishman in San Francisco! (NorCalPAX over, it was awesome)
Posts
I live around Santa Cruz so if you get lost on your way down give me a call and maybe I can get you on your way to the Boardwalk. Also I can help you out with finding cheap and/or free parking.
Or I'll tell you to turn left instead of right and have you headed on your way to Davenport! Just ask Mori!

the boardwalk is awesome, but i dont have a lot of moneys
Also, the D&D thing needs to be adjusted a bit. My landlord forgot to tell me his mom was visiting for the weekend, so we're out of room at my place.
If one of you bastards have a place we could do this at, it would be brilliant. If not, we're gonna play on the UCSC campus.

BOARDWALK
No that's silly, too far away from the Boardwalk proper.
The main gates to the Boardwalk are really easy to find (next to the carousel and below the hurricane, the blue roller coaster) I suggest we meet there.
If you arrive early I'll probably be at the Boardwalk Bowl (bowling alley).
it has the world's most loops of any single roller coaster, twelve or thirteen I think

You can have our spare ride tickets, Dubh, I have money enough to buy more!
Also, under the main gates is good
And the other to dnd at ours is genuine, it's cramped, but there'd still be plenty of room for 5-6 of us (plus tea)

But my friend Sandra is coming (she's German, returns to Germany in 2 weeks) and when she expressed disappointment that it might not last all day I suggested we go for dinner and a movie (Up, probably); if that kind of thing sounds good to others you're all welcome
"UP" as I hear it is quite charming.

Fishman and I left for SF around 9 AM. Caught the BART out, everything's fine, but then I realize shit, I forgot to validate my parking
so we turn around and I do so, only losing about a half-hour
get there, go to Chinatown and wander around a bit, wandering into one enormous shop which had not only bootleg DVDs (fishman recognized a few as being out in japan when he was there a month ago which couldn't have come out on DVD so quickly) but cheap $4 porn DVDs!
From there we went to Pier 39, which is incredibly touristy, yeah, but fun. I bought some more fridge magnets and we tried to decide on what we were going to do next - the california academy of sciences, or a bike ride across the golden gate bridge. We decided on the bike ride.
It was fine at first. Yeah, I'm incredibly out of shape and can barely go up hills for more than 20 seconds before getting off and walking my bike, but we got over the bridge fine and the day was proving to be very pretty. Unfortunately we stopped at a lookout point for a good half-hour after we got to the other side, which was fine in itself, but when we set off again I discovered that my back tire was flat.
I called the bike rental place and they said we had two choices - we could wait on the other side of the bridge for them to bring a new bike to me, or we could walk the rest of the way to Sausalito. We decided on Sausalito, because it didn't look THAT far and I figured hey, the amount of time it would have taken to get across the bridge and wait for the people to drop off a new bike we could just use to walk there.
So, we walked for about an hour or so. Maybe an hour and a half, I wasn't really paying attention to the time, instead I was paying more attention to the horrible heat burning my skin and the seemingly endless hills we had to go up to get to the city proper. Once we got there it was fine, but unfortunately we learned that the last ferry left at 7:20, took a half-hour to get to the other side, and the bike place closed at 8. Also the ferry got off at pier 1 and the bike place was at pier 44.
So I called the bike rental place again and the guy was like "OH IT'S NO PROBLEM WE'LL BE THERE TO MEET YOU AND GIVE YOU HIGH FIVES!" So I was like cool, okay, it sucks that we're here later than intended but we could take a taxi to the BART station and be back pretty quickly.
Nope, when we got there there was nobody, so we had to walk all the way to the street their lock up was at and put our bikes away. This took about 45 minutes, so we were at around 8:30. Unforunately the direct BART buses to fremont stop around, like... 7, so we had to change trains.
Our first train was fine, nice and quiet. Second train had a bunch of idiotic drunken (or maybe just super-idiotic) teenagers. You know the stage in a teenager's development where they think everything they say is fucking comedy gold? Yeah, that was one of them, a loud asshole. We kind of wanted to ask his girlfriend (who really wasn't very attractive but still could have done way better) why she puts out for that shitfuck, but we didn't.
Finally we got back to Fremont around 10:15 PM, I had a brief heart attack because I thought the flyer stuck under my windshield wiper was a ticket, and made it back home.
Oh, the worst part? I was texting Rachel, telling her what happened, but apparently the texts got sent out of order, so she had no idea what was happening. She was at her bosses' house until around 9:30 PM until my mom went to pick her up. I felt like a fucking dick.
Also I have awful sunburns on my face and arms (and hands) so I'm probably going to be incredibly uncomfortable tomorrow. Yay!
12 noon!
I was on the Caltrain after a Giants game two weeks ago and had the same thing, except it was bunch of 20-something losers.
With kids.
They walk onto the train and start loudly cursing up a storm and generally being obnoxious.
Best part? One of their acquaintances asked where one of the dudes was working. "McDonald's" Turns out they were managers at a few stores in San Jose.
It explained so much
oh god I am still gonna be so uncomfortable tomorrow though
