While I think I like windy the most, the layout of the city is obnoxious; though the teleports help. Also I wanted the kingdom ring from sandy on my elvaan when I was starting because those are actually pretty damn useful.
I resubbed and patched this on wed, but I've been so absorbed into Mass Effect again I haven't had a chance to log.
I gotta say sandy is the best just because it's usually on top in terms of outposts as much as windy is only you don't have to deal with the retarded layout that takes up 1/3 of your play time when you're starting out.
It will also control valkum dunes more than once a year.
Yeah I'm not sure I've heard of a server where Bastok is competitive on any level.
It's virtually always Windy vs Sandy.
I mean there are those odd random times where Bastok will get 1st; but it's rare and far between. Maybe a large LS decides to change to Bastok on those times to do their missions for completions sake and then switch back.
Hahaha look at that taru
That's looking really nice for pre-beta. Though I noticed there was no separate chat and combat data boxes
Hopefully they make that an option.
Man, I'm at work and I can't look at this. Does the gameplay footage show any UI stuff? Does it look good in general? Four hours is too long to wait .
It looks pretty bare bones right now. 1 chat box. Heath and Mana at the bottom. Party info on the right and what looks like quest status at the top. He's running a basic kill quest and you can see it pop up with the 2/3 Dodos killed when he takes one out.
edit: oh and what looks to be skill tabs and radar at the bottom. it's a shaky hand cam video
Man, it looks nice, but I'm hoping for some videos showing some more compelling gameplay.
My earlier speculation that it would be a PSO style MMO was clearly wrong, and I'm perfectly fine by that.
But come on SE, show us something other than wrangling balls of feathers then inexplicably killing them doing nothing but basic melee.
He did an aoe attack on a group of monsters and it was effective. I would say that's a nice departure from FFXI. The puks were also not annoying assholes that knocked him back and flashed him every 5 seconds, I'd say that's a big improvement too.
There's a couple more videos gtrailers has on the right side below the video that are more or less the same as the previous ones; just from the "taru's" perspective.
They seriously need to have one dude explaining stuff while the other does the talking. Or if that already is the case get one guy who knows what he's doing to do the playing.
edit: for those of you who can't view and want to know about the UI.
The chat box does have a label bar and at one point he selects this and it asks him a yes/no conformation question (in german)
He can also be seen moving around the player health bars.
e: party members health and mana are displayed. Not TP :x
No there is TP. You just can't see your party's TP.
So a month or two after release I'll have a black box under your name with plain white text reading [TP 79%] ruining that nice looking UI.
the two combat videos I just watched weren't very good. just some speaker talking in german with the guy on the screen standing around, only attacking every 5 minutes

I could easily make a generic joke about MMO's to this, but I won't.
I think thestig had it right in that someone was clearly trying to explain the game and play at the same time, which just wasn't cutting it which made it look a lot less interesting than it possibly could have.
After rewatching the videos a few times combat did look somewhat more interesting when the guy started actually using abilities, but I'm hoping they really didn't show much off, or they're low level and didn't have much in the way of abilities (which would be silly to demo the game as a lowby tbh), because I was hoping for more interactive combat than XI, particularly following the announcement trailer which SE claimed contained actual battle footage.
Ugh, I really want to get excited about this but it's even more apparent in those IGN videos that the dude literally just stands the between attacks and spends 3/4 of the time doing nothing.
I honestly hope that's just because of the aforementioned explaining and not because auto-attack is that painfully slow.
I mean, it's encouraging that it's that far along in development to be so playable; but I'm just not feeling the "fun".
Yeah he could have at least been auto attacking while he talked. Dude just stands there taking a beating between his one attack every minute. They really need to get some better people to demo this. Something like the videos blizzard released when they announced D3 would be nice, only with a less douchey voice over.
I haven't watched the IGN videos yet, but I'm half glad that I'm not mashing keys as quickly as possibly like in other MMO's.
The other half just wants me to be more involved / more skill based than time based.
There is nothing different in the IGN videos except there is even less going on in them than the other ones which just makes it all look that much slower. The dude just stands there staring, I assume he's explaining something but I don't know because he's speaking some obsolete language. Also there is no sound on the IGN videos I think...
All of those in game videos were boring as fuck. That guy better be the equivalent of level 1, because i'll be damned if I play another ff11 where I might get a total of 20 abilities between ws's and class skills and of those I might use 8 with any regularity.(I don't play casters).

That's one thing WoW did right. Regardless of your build or class there was something you were looking forward to at least every 3 levels. I haven't played any expansion though so I'm not referring to anything new.
In FFXI if you were like a warrior what could you look forward to? Berserk, Double attack and like 3 or 4 weapon skills worth using? Over 75 grueling levels?

The first to die in a Group and getting 10% exp penalty everytime you die?
I can't imagine that attacking will be that slow in the final game. I mean, unless SE is just filled with incompetent morons which I don't think is the case. I think the player base as a whole clearly indicated a want for faster paced combat. It would be a huge letdown if it was even slower paced than FFXI.
This is clearly a very early build of the game, but nonetheless I have mixed feelings so far. Environments look pretty good, nice animations for an early build, UI looked clean and nonintrusive. However, I couldn't really make out any significant character customization features. All the hairstyles were straight out of FFXI. It also looks a little TOO much like FFXI, which actually isn't a problem for me, but I know will turn some people off the game immediately. I'm still expecting at least 1 new race announcement down the line. I estimate late Q4 2010 for this puppy at the earliest.

Holy guacamole, you guys. holy. guacamole.
Olllllllllld! :P
Anyway, the permit system looks neat. To me it sound like a lot of Nyzul/Assault type stuff which I thought was the funnest part of FFXI.

Yeah, if there is one thing they need to add it's a separate chat box for battle spam....
Now give me some footage with a taru as a melee class, not the typical mage stuff.
That taru's legs are like 10% of it's body length.
What do you mean? Aren't you already in the game? You were in the video and everything.

The Galka on the other hand; yes please. Fixing the leg/torso ratio that always bugged me in XI made them awesome.

<< TP @ 100% -> SC GO!>>
My favorite part of FFXI was skillchains.
additionally, maybe they haven't added in every feature by this point, or at least in the build shown in the videos
