I can't imagine that attacking will be that slow in the final game. I mean, unless SE is just filled with incompetent morons which I don't think is the case.
If you asked any given person on Bluegartr or Killing Ifrit, you'd think Square was staffed with the grandest assortment of monkeys at keyboards known to man.

BG is the worst. FFXIV is really going to need a better forum, I'd hate to have to go back there for game system info.
Has anyone translated the text below the screens? I hope they say what classes they are...
I wonder if that's really a puppet at the bottom too. Hopefully the class won't be so terrible and cost millions to level this time :P
BG is terrible for everything except info on game mechanics, formulas, etc. Never went to KI because their forums were too damn slow. There is a new translated interview up on zam apparently (also on GAF). Reading the bits about the battle system made it sound funky. Everything else sounded good though. Seamless world confirmed although to tell the truth I never really had a problem with zones.

I like the idea of a seamless world if they make the transition between areas a little less abrupt. I mean going from La'theine to Valk was like uh, what?
WoW doesn't do this very well either. You'll be in one zone that is bright and happy and there's a distinct line where all the sudden it's rock and on fire; for no apparent reason. I guess there's no such thing as climates on azeroth. At least the weather in zones in XI made sense geographically.
Also they will have to shorten the train distance of mobs significantly with no zone borders.

Bluegartr and Killing Ifrit are filled with self-important douchebags though, so I wouldn't put too much stock into anything they say
Or walking in the wrong direction when you entered a zone, zoning back to where you came from then having to zone to where you were trying to go in the first place :x
So...I'm reading up on Fields of Valor; someone who's been active (is there anyone?) recently; can you tell me:
are they as awesome as they sound?
They sound kind of like the guild card system is described in XIV; you can do one per vanadiel day (every 52 minutes) and they seem to reward a respectable xp/gil reward (plus the xp from the mobs).
And you can use the tab rewards to buff yourself to do more.
This seems like an excellent way to solo xp now.
Is this unrealistic? Is there something I'm not seeing here because it sounds pretty cool.
Well, aside from the fact that even if an enemy is EP to you, they could still kick your ass depending on your job, I suppose.
EDIT: Also there is no one in Jeuno. Did everyone finally move to Whitegate entirely now?

This is correct.

...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
All of it. Also, enemies stay Easy Prey longer than they used to, so the general threat to you is greatly diminished. Plus, combine that with Protect, Regen, and Reraise from the field manuals, and you're pretty good.
Fields of Valor was a huge, huge change for FFXI, and my Red Mage, Thief, and Ninja jobs skipped the Dunes entirely due to soloing FoV. Plus, what FoV's page doesn't tell you, is that you also get casket drops all the while. Even wholly melee jobs can (usually) keep themselves pretty well-healed just from casket potions.
In fact, I practically soloed my RDM all the way to 37 using FoV.

The gil you get from FoV is nothing to write home about, but it can really help make a dent in consumable costs, and does add up after a while.
The best thing, though, is if you can find someone to duo them with. Two people can rip through stuff quite easily, and the final FoV reward is not split; you both get the whole thing. A lot of Dunes and Qufim groups also have their members take FoV regimes if they'll be killing things that appear on the pages, so that is even quicker xp.
After all that, you can spend some of the tabs you've saved up on fighting NMs from the field manuals, and you can get augmented gear, gil, or xp from it.
korodullin on

Is it worth bothering to try to solo many of the NM's for the fields?
I guess I could just log in and check it out, but are you limited to the level range it states? Because it would be pretty simple to do one of the lowby ones and toss in a ton of seals for xp.
And yeah, the gil isn't amazing, but it's something. If you're just grinding crap, even in a party, it's not like at low levels you're going to get any drops worthwhile anyway to make money. Its just a bonus.
Mog satchel is awfully nice though. Having 140 item spots is pretty cool. Space to keep all those consumables and upgrades to hang onto while leveling.
I remember when you had 30 slots and 50 in the bank and that was it.
140 is insane. And half of this new lingo I don't understand. I only played when it came out on the Playstation 2 and a little after CoP was released but I quit before Treasures. Sounds like they fixed a lot of the big things like how hard it was to earn gil and how little items you could hold.

And a redmage with OCD will still fill up all but 5 of them.
I do hope they don't allow gear swapping in battle in FFXIV. It brings out the worst in me and they also have to end up considering it when adjusting end game difficulty.

I have 80 safe, 70 storage, 70 satchel, but I think my locker is only 40 or 50 because I stopped playing before shortly after getting it. I need to remember to go upgrade it before the next tally.
The gobbiebag IX and X mats are insane. VII and VIII cost quite a bit and honestly I sort of regret doing them last night after logging in and not having a clear head. It cost about 200k for both combined and I already had plenty of space with 60 slots. I'm down to 200k (plus all my gear, which I could easily get several hundred thousand gil from selling, minimum), which I suppose isn't a big deal, but the prices of stuff much above my current WAR level (40) starts to become stupidly restrictive.
It's been about three or fours years since I played this, and the news of FFIV has brought me back. I had a lvl 54 BM on Fairy but I've decided to reroll on Carbuncle. A monk! I don't know why!
Sigh, I spent most of the day fishing without realizing Derfland (the source of ginger) is goblin controlled this week. Now my inventory is too full to do anything else until Sunday.
P.S. Damnit Phoenix, take back Movopolis so I can get to 95 cooking.

When I cancelled last time I had logged out in Bastok (I'm Sandy) with the Chaosbringer in my inventory. I had just unlocked DRK so I think I was planning on going out and killing dudes while looking for leaping lizzy, to do the quest to turn the Chaosbringer to the Deathbringer.
I know this is an impossibly vague question, but any ideas on why else I would have logged there?
Also, refresh my memory, can I renew my signet in another country?
EDIT: Also I had forgotten how much time Princessszelda spends saying: o.o
EDIT2: FUCK YES! Bounding Boots get!
EDIT3: Also, the treasure chests are a nice addition. I haven't managed to unlock a brown one yet because I'm stupid, but the temp items in the blue ones are a very welcome addition. I can think of many times a random antidote or potion would have made the difference between fighting on and leveling down. Not entirely reliable since it's random, but definitely a nice thing to have around.
Just heading to gusgen to do this chaosbringer quest. I have the razor axe quest, just need to head to davoi whenever.
I guess I should check first before you waste your time, is this something we can duo? I've read the quest guide and it says both NM are 45, but doesn't give any indication as to what you need to beat them. Some NM's are ridiculously hard, some aren't. I'm 40 WAR for reference.
