Photoshop colour matching help

Forgive me if this is a no-brainer, but I've been on an Illustrator binge for quite a while and I'm having trouble shifting back into Photoshop.

I have an image with a parchment texture kind of thing as the background. I need the overall colour of this background to be as close a match as possible to a certain RGB colour. What's the best way to match the background to this colour?

I'm using CS3.

Put a layer filled with the specific color below it and then set the texture layer's blend style to "luminosity".

You could also add the RGB value in a fill above the texture and set the RGB blend style to "color".

A third option would be Layer>New Adjustment Layer> Hue/Saturation and adjust the color of the texture that way.

What narv is saying is that the approach you think you need is an extremely difficult way of doing what it seems like you want.

What he and I suggest is to start with the color you want, and then make the texture "lend" it's highlights and shadows to that color.
