Installing RAID0 on P5Q-Deluxe motherboard

I've got 3 hard drives

1. with windows and such on it, 500gb
2. a brand new drive, 1tb
3. another of the same drive, 1tb

I want to set up #2 and #3 in a RAID0 configuration.

I went into the BIOS, and set "Configure SATA as RAID" and then restarted. Then I pressed ctrl-I during the POST to go into intel's supposed drive configuration utility.

I can't get part this part. The POST hangs after "Auto-detecting SATA PORT 1..." or something like that. Is it a problem that the first drive should not be included in this RAID? How do I do this?

    Okay, made some progress.

I turned off my machine, disconnected my main drive (drive #1), and then was able to restart and enter the Intel makeyourdrivesRAID utility. I set up the RAID0 on the two drives.

Now I'm back to my original problem. I reconnected my main drive, and the system hangs at POST with "Auto-Detecting SATA PORT 1..."

I can't even enter the BIOS!

Switched the drives around. Now the RAID drives are 1 and 2, and the normal drive is 3.

The system correctly detects drives 1 and 2, and then hangs on 3. Am I just not allowed to have a sata drive that isn't part of this raid?

Also, I tried to set up software raid in the meantime. "The command you selected is not available in this version of Windows." Great.

I might be mistaken, but I believe your first SATA drive was running in IDE mode before, and this is why it won't boot up. But then again, I use the same chipset and have never had problems connecting other drives from other machines into my machine... hmmm...

I find these guys to be very experienced with all computer woes. Lot's of tips for setting up RAID configurations as well. The P5Q is a very popular board, you'll get this sorted out quickly.

I posted over at those forums. When I was googling the shit out of this issue, lots of threads from over there popped up, but i haven't been able to find my answer.

This is infuriating. Right now I have my SATA ports like this:
    1. raid disk 1
    2. raid disk 2
    3. dvd rom
    4. my original hdd

and this is what shows up in POST
Auto-Detecting SATA PORT 1..IDE Hard Disk
Auto-Detecting SATA PORT 2..IDE Hard Disk
    Auto-Detecting SATA PORT 4..

and then it hangs there. It wouldn't be so bad if the sata ports were in reasonable places, but I guess asus thinks it's funny to hide them under video cards and such. I actually cut my finger rewiring the damn thing...
