Four kids from Brooklyn started a band called Grizzly Bear. They're folky and really neat. They're Radiohead's favorite band. They became famous not only for a unique sound, but for an absolutely appalling dedication to making each song "perfect"- these guys have got a serious, serious passion for making the best music that they possibly can.
Their latest album, Veckatimest, is being widely heralded as the best album of the year.
ZoelI suppose... I'd put it onRegistered Userregular

I was all ready to show my disapproval of this band by not posting here but unfortunately those are some pretty good songs
Zoel on
A magician gives you a ring that, when worn, will let you see the world as it truly is.
However, the ring will never leave your finger, and you will be unable to ever describe to another living person what you see.

I am liking this a little. It's kinda slow and boring at times though and I just started listening to Coheed and Cambria, so I'll put these guys on the back burner.
It's hard to tell by listening to one song at a time, but these guys put so much care into every single song that (as someone with no musical background) I find absolutely incomprehensible

I keep not having money for iTunes
Maybe I need to listen to it some more.
It was just kind of hmm, but I'll try again.

That's great, Wimble
I always thought it was the opposite
i feel like tim and eric were directing their facial expressions
ME AND YOU ARE OVER
OVERRRRR
like...I guess? Radiohead is all "woo grizzly bear please open for us" and grizzly bear is all "nice, we love you too radiohead"
well I mean they don't actually look like that
maybe, but I actually really don't like Radiohead but am super into these guys
if you guys like any of them, check out this other song that is pretty great off their CD! ignore the video.

no, fari! I still totally love the furry kind of bear, this just isn't their thread!
here, let me make it up to you. you can have some of these one-day-old cookies I'm eating right now
listening to Veckatimest now
BUT
you know what's i've been listening to?
first of all, the Danger Mouse / Sparkhorse album that you have to torrent is REALLY REALLY GOOD. the whole thing is streaming on NPR:

BUT ALSO
School of Seven Bells is pretty good
http://www.myspace.com/schoolofsevenbells
i've also been listening to a bunch of Holy Fuck but I'm really late to that party
I'll need to find a way to get it
I've noticed that pretty much any time there's a band who is utterly pedantic in the studio, I wind up liking them. See also: Steely Dan.
we should talk about Devendra Banhart in this thread too because that man makes some fine, fine music
That's good music, too
their new album is good, especially black swan
on the whole better than random spirit lover
not only have I never seen them perform, but this current tour is going to states on either side of me but not my state
I hate you so much
radiohead is constituted by a lot of weird guys who have been together a long time
I think that at this point Thom Yorke has just incorporated each of their own separate consciousnesses into his own Overmind
or canada i guess
They're in NC in two weeks
it's to the point where I grieve missing the shows I did before I even knew about them
all I've seen of Spencer's is one Wolf Parade concert and that was great but it just made me hunger
I have a friend who lives in Chapel Hill but isn't particularly fond of them
The best thing about NC is that all the major cities are within two hours of eachother, making concerts nice and easy
wolf parade is tighter live than sunset rubdown is but i don't like them as much
This I'm looking forward to
Not that anyone I want to see will ever come down there. I'm unlucky that way
I found Sunset Rubdown to be far better than Wolf Parade live
