What did Mario Kart Wii screw up? Its online multi was/is awesome.
The online was pretty good though it still used friend codes, and you couldn't send any replay to friends (It had to be your best one). Mostly the problem was there were too many godly items that took no skill to use; blue shells, lightning, bullet bill, pow block. The characters and karts were also very unbalanced. Karts didn't stand a chance against even the worst bikes. Oh and no customizable controls, the best controller was the GC controller and it's like they intentionally made the control scheme for it terrible in an attempt to balance it with the other controllers.
Pfft. I steer with the Wiimote like a MAN! :x
If you're in the front you get crap items and if you're in the back you get the crazy stuff. I find it to be a fine balance between competitive play and clusterfuck-party-game like Smash Brothers. Also, it took out the character specific weapons, which ruined Double Dash for me. I found MKWii to be the shot in the arm the franchise needed.
Ugh. I'd pay full price if Smash Brothers worked as well online. And then I'd never leave the house.
he better say, "Would you like to try a game of Lucky Hit?"
And if he pushes someone into the water: "Have you seen any sailors?"
Sonic Drift 2 sucks
I can't disagree more. IMO Sonic Drift 2 is a very good racer for the Sega Game Gear. Nice track design, lots of tracks, varied cast (heck, even metal Sonic from Sega CD was in there). Outstanding music too, for a 8 bit hand held device. IMO it took everything from the first title and improved upon it. Of course it doesn't even come close to Mario Cart for SNES, but as portable title for a limited platform it is a very fun game.

Eh, I think having, what, eight people able to get "screw you over" items (and that's all the Blue Shell is; there is NO benefit to using it whatsoever when it only takes out first and anyone unfortunate enough to be nearby when you're in 8th-12th place) really takes a lot of the fun out of it. At least some crazier defense-based items might be nice, stuff that works as well as the offensive.
Seemed more random in the older days, the item the higher ranks would get.
And honestly, I loved the character-specific items. Multi-Fireball for the win.
At the very least, first place should be able to dodge things like Blue Shells. And no, using a Mushroom doesn't really count, given a) you don't get those in first place, and b) you're way too prone to losing items you hold on to in MK Wii. They seem to hold a more "use it or lose it" tact there than the semblance of strategy seen in past games.
Anyway, I'm hoping Sonic is closer to MK's earlier days. If Mario is included in the Wii version, so much the better on that front.
No it's pretty much vehicles. Outside of Showdown Town there's little to no platforming. It's 98% vehicle based. However, Banjo was removed from DKR on DS along with Conker. Not quite sure why Tiptup stayed, but that would mean there are an equal amount of platforming and vehicle games. Except for one crappy game that exists solely to make sure that that isn't the case! There was a Banjo Pilot game for GBA. That can take DKR's place so we're still at more vehicle games than platforming games.
What would a cart racing game have to do to be viewed in the eyes of most gamers as anything but a Mario Kart clone? I'm curious if there's ever been a cart-racing game that's avoided this label.

Banjo + Avatars. The way this talks it sounds like cameo characters are an MS exclusive. I like how Banjo's car is built out of Nuts & Bolts parts. I presume for his star move Kazooie will use the wrench to add bits or something.
You'd assume with avatars in the 360 version that mii's are a given for the wii version. Hopefully no home characters though, because god they still give me nightmares.
As for how not to be accused of being a mario kart clone, for a start, they could have not shamelessly knicked the stunts off of jumps from mario kart wii.
The reason I think it must be 360 exclusive is mainly that the boxart is out and if they had Mario they'd surely put him on the box. Surely. Banjo is on the box, Mario isn't for the Wii. Plus the way this trailer says Xbox exclusive seems to imply Xbox is the only place you'll find cameos.
Wow. Banjo looks awful. Like, just terrible. Look at how he appears in N&B. Then look at that. Obviously he can't look exactly the same as it isn't the same engine or anything, but they could've made him look a little bit better. He's original Xbox quality now.
Oh definately, if mario was in there, he'd be on the box.
"exclusive sonic and sega all stars racing characters only on xbox360" is how he phrases it in the ad, so you're probably right... but I dunno, mii support would be so damn obvious.

On repeat. All fucking day.
A good kart racer is always welcome in my home. Always.
Sega makes Sonic games, Sonic games have a bad rep these days, therefore this game will be horrible.

It could be a snub for refusing to allow Sonic into Mario Kart that one time.

The best you can hope for is being really good like Crash Team Racing.
Could be, though Sega and Nintendo have an absurdly good relationship now. Then again Nintendo may have balked at having Mario in a non-starring role.
Banjo-Kazooie... yay I suppose, but considering the horrible sales of Nuts and Bolts I can't see too many people getting excited over it.
Realistic go-karting sim.
Been done, too. Apparently terrible.
