Quarantine 2019

Biohazard_Black_Yellow.jpg

Attention! A new round is starting imminently! Keep logging in as the same character and all shall go on as normal, with a level roll back across the board! We have always been at war with Eurasia!

In the nine district city of Betaville, the worst case scenario that nerds everywhere have been preparing for ineffectually has finally come to pass. Break out the katanas and trenchcoats you irredeemable weeaboos, the Zombie Apocalypse is here!

Quarantine 2019, much like the game it was based off of Urban Dead, is a browser game about the zombie apocalypse. The basic premise is that there are zombies and there are survivors, and that within the zombie ravaged city of Betaville everyone has a pool of 50 EP by which they can take actions such as moving and attacking, as well as skills that can be bought to enhance your ability to eat brains or survive. Sounds exactly like Urban Dead so far yeah? Well there are a number of things that set Q2019 apart from its ancient cousin, such as...

Key Features:
-Q2019 is a game that you can win! Unlike Urban Dead, each side has an objective that can be genuinely obtained. The game is played in rounds that can last months, with survivors attempting to secure buildings in which to conduct research for a cure while the zombies attempt to overwhelm the survivors in a tide of brain eating. At the end of each round, everyone goes back to level zero.

-EP Regen Rate. EP regenerates at an enormously faster rate than Urban Deads Action Points. In Quarantine 2019 you regenerate 1 EP per 7 minutes and 12 seconds, adding up to the full 50 EP every 6 hours or so. With this in mind, each player can have about 2 to 3 big activity bursts per day.

-Teamwork emphasized! You can't learn every skill in Quarantine 2019. Once you branch into a specialized class, the other specializations are sealed to you. Both zombie and survivor alike need to diversify their roles if they are to succeed. Further details on classes below.

-Developer Activity! The developers are still actively tweaking and improving this game, unlike Urban Dead which is rather...dead in that regard. This is a game where we can and expect to see the game evolve in the near future and beyond.

-Resource Management. Buildings can be "picked clean", as each building has a maximum of 100 Resource Points, lower if it's been ransacked by zombies. When you scavenge a building for resources, you are taking away RP from that building. RP gradually regenerate over time.
-Edit: It's been brought to my attention that this is sometimes not in effect in certain rounds? Unconfirmed.

-Infection! Being killed by a zombie and becoming a zombie are not one and the same thing. Zombies have an infection chance per attack that goes higher and higher as they buy specific skills. When a zombie or a citizen is killed without being converted, they can get back up by spending a minimum of 10 EP. The more EP you spend, the more HP you get back up with.

Class Overview:

Citizens

The Basic Citizen: Everyone starts out as this. This is the "not-class class" that covers all your basic skills that everyone can get. At least functional proficiency with melee weapons and guns, resistance to infection, climbing skills, and so forth. As a basic citizen, you are merely on your way to becoming something more specialized such as...

The Warrior: This is the class to become if you want to kick ass and chew bubblegum and really not do a whole hell of a lot else. Advanced melee and gun skills are found here. As well, Warriors are burlier and can get back up from being killed easier.

The Medic: Do I really need to explain what this class does? Do I really? Oh fine. Only the Medic can see exact HP values on fellow citizens and are best at un-hurting you.

The Engineer: Crucial to the citizens survival. The Engineer is the only one who can raise a barricade to the highest levels, and is the only one who can repair a whole shlew of mission critical devices. Including generators, radios, and more.

The Scientist: Also slightly critical. Scientists are the only ones who can use Brain Samplers, devices which take samples from zombies and are in turn hooked up to computers to be processed in the search for a cure. They're also the ones who can create Jet Injectors, which can return a zombie to its human state, and have the best chance of not botching the use of said Injectors.

Zombies!

The Basic Zombie: Analogue to the Basic Citizen. Contains the basic skills that are important to all. Health regeneration, claw and bite proficiency, feeding groans, and increased infection rate. Just waiting to mutate into a more advanced flesh eating monstrosity.

The Strong Zombie: Analogue to the Warrior. Gains damage increases to Bite and Claw attack alike, becomes burlier, more accurate, and are the only zombies who can ruin buildings! Important to denying citizens the resources they so badly crave.

The Smart Zombie: Leader of the bunch. They can speak, understands radios and spraypainted messages, open doors...and have the highest infection rate of any of the zombies. Crucial to coordinating the horde and increasing conversion rate.

The Fast Zombie: Climbs in windows and eats your face. That's it. Not as accurate and damaging as the Strong, not as infectious as the Smart, but you are never safe from the Fast Zombie. Gonna getcha.

Quarantine 2019 Rules: Important

My fellow Penny Arcadians!

The simple fact about this game right now, is that the current round is severely in favor of the Citizens. The zombies are losing and losing hard, and it's inevitable that this round go to the Citizens. So what I ask you is:

zombie.jpg

He wants you dammit! I want you! The zombies are losing because they've lost sight of what really matters, it's not just about the brains! It's about those pretty little torsos! I propose we join the zombie side as the Fleshreapers zombie group and lend what aid we can in the District of Laurierville! The odds are low and the citizens well armed, but those torsos aren't going to collect themselves damn it! Who's with me?

I will be making the Fleshreapers an official official group in game as soon as possible. Regrettably it costs 100 Skill Points to make a group. D:

On the other hand, groups in this game aren't something you can join without approval so it makes a bit of sense.

I signed up as a zombie. Every time I run out of AP to rest, I get killed by sledgehammers. Is there a decent place to go when you need to wait 6 hours? Are all of us PA people trying to flock (shamble) to a single area?

You're going to die a lot.

I did overhear in the QIRC that they are looking into implementing SEWERS whereby Zombies can move under and around the city.

It would be the sort of "safe haven" for zombies, and a place to coordinate attacks from.

Expect to die a lot. This round is not going in the zombies favor. Death however, isn't that much of an inconvenience. Realistically what I do is just spend 10 EP to stand up when I die, as survivors tend to be able to kill me from full health if they really want to, then use the other 40 EP to wreak as much havoc as possible. If we focus our efforts on specific sections of Laurier Ville we can get some stuff done.

Also: Developers are kicking around the idea of some kind of sewers area that's Zombies only, or at least something to that effect.

Alrighty. When I get full AP, I will revive with 10 and move my way up to you guys. I will try and claw everything along the way. Someone tried to inject me with something and failed. If a Jet Injector is successful on me, will I turn into a survivor and essentially start at level 1 again?

Pretty much yes. Your zombie self is "frozen" while you're a survivor. You also get 25% of the SP you gathered while a zombie when you turn into a survivor to do whatever with.

Edit: Don't forget to list your names if you join the zombie horde people, that I might add you to the list for future referencing. Also, I recommend we start in the southeast corner of Laurier and work our way out from there doing as much damage as we can.

I've already encountered like 2 'live' players, doing moves within just a few seconds or minutes of mine. Already feels alot faster paced that UD, but UD reminds me more of the old turn-based games from BBSs and stuff.

    Sign me up(Aiserou).

I'm currently down in Snowdon plinking away at the computer in the lab but I'm out of EP. Once I'm done here I'll make my way back to LV.

Also seconding the idea of only using 10 ep to stand up, survivors are going to kill you if they find you anyways, this way they get less xp for hitting you, and you get more ep to hit them with. Of course, it makes you slightly more vulnerable to injection, so it may not be as good an idea if they get a lot of scientists. Once we get more smarts we can mitigate that better.

From what I've seen, zombies require alot more organization and timing to be successful than our WANG mob rule. At the very least, is there someone willing to designate target buildings to be ruined?

His insistence that the lower classes cease this uproar at once before he summons the constable led to his infection and transition to the undead masses. Thing is, we need Strong zombies to even begin to start ruining. They're the only Zombie class capable of it. Stage one is getting the exp to class into Strongs and Smarts. I'm not opposed to keeping a priority target list in the OP. Also, once we form a group there's a tool we can use called Manitool specifically for Quarantine 2019. It tracks the movements of all members in a group, letting you record data on barricade levels of buildings on Manitools Map. Everyone in the group can view these markers you've placed.

An IRC channel also might be useful, but I know very little of that.

Edit: As for where in Laurierville, I recommend the southeast quadrant at present. I'm dead outside the Plane History Museum, as is Tildryn.

I recommend investigating the southwest side of Laurierville. Remember: It's ideal to upgrade Bite as much as you can, as it has the highest chance of infection and higher damage.

Yeah, everyone can get back up from death in this game. Conversion on the other hand is a big deal.

Strong and Smart zombies are both pretty crucial, though arguably we might need slightly more Strong Zombies if we're to make progress in ruining buildings.
