Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I did that too with Fusion.
I wish there was a way to make the GBP work with the Wii, although it'd look incredibly silly.
Or incredibly hardcore; I always figured that someone, somewhere managed to cobble something together with these wires running from the GBP into the Wii somehow. I don't know if that's even possible, but I could see someone frankensteining something together.

Sadly, Six was right—Shadow Complex probably will be at least $20, if not more. I paid that much for Castle Crashers and I was fine with it, but I think the price is going to enrage a ton of people.
Brainiac, did you see the developer walkthrough quoted in Lave's post? Shows off a lot of cool stuff.

Yeah. I'll be one of them. That means it will be about £17. Thats well towards the prices of disk games. And those I actually own rather than rent.
I bought Braid and Castlecrashers at 1200 because I thought they were worth it and so justified the extra cost. They used that as an excuse to price loads of OK games at 1200 - Lode Runner (a souless, run of the mill port of a classic) being a good example. I would have picked them up at 800 but at 1200 I just don't. So I enjoy XBLA less.
If I believed they were pricing according to worth then I might pay that. But they aren't. And using "AAA" titles to push up prices.
Unless it is earth shatteringly good and I crack I will wait for a price cut/special offer because it harms my XBLA use in the long run.
Fiddlesticks.
EDIT: I being very negative here, and this is no criticism of the game itself (Which looks tremendous!) but I really can't support such hi-prices for games I don't actually own and which have the middle man cut out. Still I'm open minded and they might convince me.
I'm as excited as you guys are (<3<3<3), but it's not listed in the Summer of XBLA promo! I didn't really want to make a general XBLA thread, but I could easily be persuaded, as it's really the main reason I fire up my 360 anymore (well, that, Rock Band and Mass Effect).
I don't think a window for release has been specified beyond "summer 2009," so that might put it at a late August release since it's not mentioned in this whole Summer of XBLA promo.
Understandable. I'm just excited at the prospect of this game (and games like it) coming to XBLA. Between this and the surge of board games, I'm very happy with where the service has gone.
(Next: A few more trategy and/or sim titles, please)

Nah, it's cool. I can kind of see how games are slowly creeping up in price, but honestly as long as they're matched by increasing quality I'm perfectly fine with it. Geo Wars 2 was twice as much as Geo Wars 1 but it was so, so worth it. I'm just excited to see that someone outside of Konami acknowledges how cool the Metroidvania formula really is and wants to do something with it.
Alternatively, now there do exist ways to cut prices on XBLA games (the Gold member Deal of the Week, and Amazon's occasional sales here in the U.S.), so there is some precedent for people who wait out a while getting a better deal.
Wait, are some people claiming that nothing made for XBLA can be as good as any retail product, and thus a price point that's 2/3-1/2 of a new PSP/DS is completely untenable? $20 for a downloadable game doesn't seem unreasonable to me. That's still less than the release price of SotN, Super Metroid, GBA-vanias, and other games it's been compared favorably to.

No. From my posts here you can tell that I rate the XBLA catalogue far in excess of the disk catalogue.
My issue is that I don't own what I buy. I can't resell it, I can't trade it, I can't own it. That adds a lot of value to a purchase.
It also has no middle men to pay.
Frankly if Gears of Wars 2 was a download title it would only be worth 800 points to me.

I guess I can kinda understand this. If you view games as purchases to be consumed and recycled, then resale value would be a valid concern. Because I spend so much time programming my game (consequently, less time playing games), I only ever buy titles I think I'll be happy with forever. Resale never enters into the equation for me, so physical media constitutes no value to me.
Edit: I should also add that as an aspiring developer, I don't buy used games, because I'd prefer more money go to the pub/dev than the retail establishment.
I only ever buy titles I think I'll be happy with forever.
I've wondered what will happen when the 360's life cycle comes to a close........will be able to re-download on the newer console? this is a couple years off though. But could be a pain as in order to play XBLA you need to be signed in, so I'd have to leave the 360 hooked up to the network and all that razz-matazz...
edit: hard to think they'll let you access your purchase forever

It's more about being able to take chances. I'm a bit of a collector. Though goozex is beginning to change that.
'Forever' - I don't associate download purchases with forever. Thats another big selling point of hard copies they'll play on any console and as long (as you look after them) for a long time. The DRM wrapping XBLA games mean that once they stop supporting the 360 you'll only be able to play them until your 360 breaks.
Assuming backwards compatibilty isn't sensible. Hell XNA games only play if you talk to MS server first and ask permission. How long do you think they'll keep that running? Remember MS have already shut down one DRM music server. Google shut down a DRM video server. People got (some) re-numeration but they both lost their content.
I've a nigh on 20 year old copy of Sonic for the master system. I still play it.
If I'm being honest I suspect piracy will be the only way to play most XBLA games in twenty years. Hell maybe next generation.
TL : DR it is not that I'll pay to 'own' titles because I consider them desposable, it because I actually want to own them.
I'm fairly certain that the next iterations of hardware will be back compatible with downloaded titles. Look at Live Arcade, Community Games, etc - the current hardware makers are in it for the long haul. The immense loss of goodwill (I downloaded Super Metroid on my Wii, now I have to again on the Wii 2?) of making prior titles inaccessible just doesn't make sense.
The DRM servers you're talking about (MSN Music at least, I couldn't find any results for Google) shut down because there wasn't enough interest in the product to justify the cost. I'm pretty sure that won't be the case with game consoles. If Sony shuts down their PSN auth servers, it will be because PS4 bankrupted them, not because PS4 was so successful they thought they could recharge all their customers.
What's the $ equivalent of 1200 ms points, by the way?

I'm somewhat hopefully that Microsoft will have a way to transfer/use your DLC on the next Xbox, but Nintendo? Yep, you're going to be buying Super Metroid again on the Wii 2. Absolutely no doubt about it. if there is anyone who loooves to get people to quadruple dip -- and gets away with it! -- it's Nintendo. I will be SHOCKED if Virtual Console games are transferable to the next Nintendo console.
I think the problem with Nintendo is the lack of a uniform "account" your purchases are tied to. MS can say "okay, gamertag Delzhand bought Shadow Complex, so he can redownload it on his XBox BFG". Nintendo can't do that. Maybe Super Metroid was a bad example because of that.
Also, the amount of playtime I've gotten out of Super Metroid make it easily worth upwards of $100.

That argument is purely "I don't think they will do it". To be honest I suspect the games will come with me to the Xbox 3 but I'm not assuming it. Here's Google shutting down it's video service. So yeah, I never thought that 'do no evil' Google would stop people watching the videos they bought. But they did.
That and what if the PS bankcrupts sony? Sega died and I never thought that would happen. But I can still use my Sega games. I just worry about the permanency of my downloads and until they've convinced me and actually stated the games are coming along with me, that limits what I will pay.
Is there a generic XBLA thread? I want to get all giddy with excitement over the announcement that Perfect Dark is going to be available by the end of the year. In 1080p. Fuck! Yeah!
I don't like how they're using the character models from the TMNT movie (the 2007 one) rather than, you know, modeling them after what they looked like in the game they're remaking. :?
I caved and blew some points on Galaga Legions. It was so worth it though. Especially for Vintage mode. I wish I could make it the default, because it looks so fantastic.
Ancient mode makes it look like what I think is Galaxian, I'm not too crazy about it.
Argh! Shadow Complex looks good, the concept sounds interesting and at least a little new, and the whole thing seems like the kind of effort we should reward. But Card is such a nutjob I'm amazingly loath to give him money, especially for a paranoid fetish wet dream IP like Empire.

He's also a remarkable homophobe, but I've learned to separate the author from the work. Besides, the link to Empire is... well, pretty generic. I don't imagine too much of the per game sales are going to Card. I didn't even know it was based on Empire until I googled it.
The whole reason the Virtual Console is doing so well for Nintendo is because of nostalgia. I dropped the points on Super Metroid (and about 15 other games) because I haven't been able to play them for 15-20 years. If Nintendo expects people to buy them again in 3-5 years or however long it takes to release Wii2, then they're nuts.
I have a feeling that the Wii2 won't transfer VC games.
Instead Nintendo will release a new shop with titles including new features. Namely leaderboards, achievements etc. And use that as an excuse to resell it.
