Star Wars: The Old Republic - Everybody Here Is Going To Be A Jedi

Rumors were abound that a new MMO was on the way. A Star Wars MMO. And the rumors were fueled by Bioware being involved in a new MMO project. And then one day, the rumors became true.
Lucasarts has allowed for a second go of a Star Wars MMO to be made. Walking away from Sony Online Entertainment, they've gone to Bioware, with many promises being made to make this leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor.
So far, Bioware has stuck to its commitment to deliver a strong story. They're determined to bring us one in an MMO environment, referring to it as a missing fourth pillar in other MMOs. As of E3 2009, they've also began touting the game as being the first MMO to feature full voice acting. Every playable character, every NPC, all voiced.
Awesome video, but cynicism about MMOs and pay-to-play are far more powerful than the Force
Your lack of faith is disturbing. Surely the desire to crush every whiny 'luuukestarfarter' emo jedi is greater than the scars upon your soul due to the interactions with the likes of SOE and blizzard (Awsome games, but caters to the 'gemme' crowd too much)
I am probably going to go Sith just because I think the Jedi Order are full of hypocritical toolboxes who don't learn from their mistakes. The Sith are at least honest toolboxes who don't learn from their mistakes.

Indeed, doogoin pansys. I'll have a sith flashlightwaving motherfucker who will show what it truely means to be sith.....and i'll have my mando (rp motherfuckers, it's fuckin money), that will at least work with the sith now and then to further said wreckage of the jedi shit. I mean...what more worthy foe than the one born of fire and blood? Gotta make sure the jedi go through the school of hard knocks to become a worth opponent.

I think, as far as the expanded universe has shown me, the Sith are the one set of bad guys that I actually despise in any franchise. They're as despicable as the Jedi Order really. Hopefully you can traverse the game in the middleground. Not that I'm specifically aiming for it for the sake of being there, but there are some creeds and codes of the Order that I don't agree with and I guess not going along with them would set me more toward being Sith, but at the same time a Jedi should help those who need helping.
I put way too much thought into this. You should see my KotOR characters. :P

I thought I was sold on the Republic Trooper, but that video has me wanting to roll Bounty Hunter so badly.
I just hope being a bounty hunter won't mean looking like Boba Fett. Not that he looks stupid or anything, there just is no reson for every bounty hunter to have a standardized look.

I just realized this is going to be another chance since the first KotOR to see the Sith operate as an organized body. That will be fun. I'm tired of the sort of covert / guerrilla shit they do most of the time.

Indeed...a sea of red sabers and black cloaks...not so much marching, but owning their way through the streets
I gotta say, the Sith would probably benefit a hell of a lot from ditching the Sith Code and adopting Mandalorian Principles. Mandalorian Principles would probably sure as hell make a Force User dark side, the difference is that the Mandalorians just seem...more competent. Less likely to implode.

As an actual Empire, no less. It'll be interesting to see their culture and so on, since in effect they are like a shadowy reflection of the Republic.

Four classes in blue, four in red...So it seems like your class selection will be limited based on the role you pick in the conflict (republic/sith)...So the trooper is the republics version of the bounty hunter it seems.
Mebbe I am reading it wrong..I dunno. But I can see a TON of pvp complaints if that's the case.
Huh. I wonder if Sith players will actually be limited to Red sabers.
There are lots of shades of red. Hopefully violet is allowed as well.

Yeah, it's been confirmed that your class is bound to one side in the conflict. Each class also gets a unique overarching story.

It may not be fair to say one is a 'version' of another. Classes might fill roughly similar roles but still be different.

I gotta say, if the story holds up, and the gameplay remains fun, i'll probably make this a day one purchase.
Did anyone else go "Oh shit!" when
The ship opened up in the trailer, revealing one Sith, only part-way visible thanks to the shadows, with a lightsaber? I thought they were going to do a double-take, and make that character the real Sith Lord before I saw the two dozen other red lightsabers ignite behind him.
Then again, I thought this was just going to be a "Here's the classes, and a good faction leader and evil faction leader" sort of trailer from the opening, so that threw me off.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the clarification. Kinda limits the possibilities a bit, but eh, RP can overcome anything.
I normally don't really care for cinematic trailers that much; I'd rather see some gameplay. But after that... o_O I'll make an exception because that was probably one of the best ones I have ever seen. Just epic. Wow I'm so psyched for this game. Sure it wont play like that, but w/e it's a Bioware MMORPG and I'll probably end up wanting to have it's children.

Good, fresh OP.
Also, I'd mention that every NPC has a unique voice.
That would be the greatest disservice to everyone. But it's there.

I hope they can come up with stuff as good as Sleeps-With-Vibroblades when Obsidian was at the helm.

You can never go wrong with a Scottish Sith.

There should be a Sith with a drinking problem.
(I know I'm thinking of the Irish but I always get them and the Scottish mixed up)
I don't foresee anything approaching a middle ground being possible for Force users.

Sure it's not that bit of twi'lek ass at the start....i KNOW that was the first thing you saw in that scene..:winky:

Its just so pretty
At the very least Sith better be able to use purple sabers. Dual wielding a red and a purple looks damn good on a Sith.

Amen to that. The resol'nare is absolute!

Would be silly to limit it, as the color is only a matter of crystal choice.

Bioware knows how to pull off epic, it seems.

Dual sabers I can buy. The double bladed ones I find to be ridiculous, unwieldly, and likely to chop yourself in half with.

Darth maul would like to have a word with you...but yes, I prefer the classic single blade myself.
