Why is everyone so harsh on people for discussing character names? Is it that big a deal?
I like having characters with half-way decent names that aren't "Legolastrider" or "Luuuke"
I think the biggest complaint is that it consumed many amounts of pages for every single person to post what their name was going to be, then a secondary post posting what their alts name was going to be. And now we name the ships.
My ship is going to be named Ebonhawk 6000. Or maybe Butthole Destroyer.
Yeah, but then they'll run out of things to reveal long before the game is set to be released.
I think one of the best hype vehicles was super smash brother brawl, where they released a small tidbit of information at set intervals (although admittedly they only did this as release approached)
When you know when information is coming out, you'll keep paying attention
saying that, i think they should just release some sort of information, no matter how small, say every 2 or 3 weeks at known intervals, because people eat that shit up and tear it apart
They could do interviews with our favorite voice actors, even. That would be kind of interesting, hearing about how they work and put together a character. Do they try to play different characters, or do they play a set character? How do they make the character stand out from their previous roles? What sorts of rediculous faces to they make when they're recording the silly game noises like pain sounds, death sounds, and some of the more awful dialogue that tends to haunt games in general?
It's obvious that they don't need to release more information though. This thread went to the moon in three weeks with only what they've done so far. They could probably cut back on the flow of information and still maintain similar general levels of interest.
Looking back, there have been pretty steady weekly releases of something since the first announcement back in October. I've seen a few two-week gaps here and there, but overall they've done a good job of keeping things interesting.
well i'm saying they should specifically be releasing small amounts of information at specific intervals, instead of these big blotches, because then you'd have a stronger focus, people would be overall more informed (instead of having information relatively hard to find, holonet is nice but doesn't have all available information), and you're not releasing info too fast
-anyway has there been any other information released since the interview about a week ago?
or to rephrase it
what is the newest information that's been released?
And to be fair, i'm naming my ship Scared Shipless.
For no reason at all other than is seems right, since everyone who sees my ship will be SCARED SHIPLESS! After I kill them, and burn the corpses, and steal all their loot, along with their pet bantha fluffy.
No one can escape my wrath.

I think my ship name would depend a lot on what kind of ships we had to choose from.
Speaking of ships, what would you all think if the starport was the game's take on player housing? Check in at the counter or tram or elevator or whatever to get ported directly to the pad where the ship you wanted to visit was, with ship interiors having surfaces you could decorate or put knick knacks on?

I wouldn't mind that, thought I'm pretty sure they allowed you to decorate your ships in SWG, so beware.
But that being said, if I had the choice, I'd rather have like, a 'ship house' then a house that you plop down on one place and can't move it.
If you can go around and fly the ship, then stop in space, get out of the cockpit, and look around WHILE floating in space, and do whatever, as long as you aren't attack by pirates? Thats cool. And if pirates attack, fire proton torpedoes :P
And one thing they've never intimated the existence of--to my knowledge, anyway--is player housing.

I don't recall hearing anything about it either, but I think pretty much every MMO on the market these days has some sort of personal player space somewhere.
Except perhaps War? I don't know. However, I think that having some individualized area, even if it is a non-gameworld-apartment-style setup would not be too far fetched a supposition. And star port landing pads are ideal for this setting, as they don't stretch suspension of disbelief for your "house" to carry over to whichever planet you happen to be on.

Ships would make sense for player housing, especially guild housing. Imagine the grief QQing that would result if a /gdisband would result in the GM getting the ship and all the loot on board.
Ships as player housing would be pretty neat. You could do it like EQ2 in an Apartment style set up. Way better than that SWG and UO did, where it fucked up the questing landscape.

Agreed, and you couldn't go anywhere near a completely player populated town, because all the housing, and extras would make you lag out.
I still liked the ability to MAKE player run towns though, that was fun. :P
But yea. I'd prefer a sort of ship home, like Lonestars Winnebago.
I'm pretty sure if I make a Sith character first, and ships-as-housing is in the game and I can name them, Spaceball One and Mega-Maid will be my first two choices.

I think I've been desensitized to this ship from the WoW forums. Only a few on the first few pages really struck me as being truly terrible.

Yeah, it's starting to flow quite regularly now, alternating between class reveals, Timeline videos, holonet stuff, documentaries and the comic.
