I doubt we will all be as good as if we were real military -- but throwing in a little jargen might be fun.
Also -- as said above. With the functionality of map markers in real time, calling in coordinates and locations for fire-missions should be pretty easy.
Who is going to be our leader in this thing. And does being the leader mean that for the most part they are going to be holed up in a building trying to orchestrate everything?
I doubt we will all be as good as if we were real military -- but throwing in a little jargen might be fun.
We'll be playing ArmA 2 and you ex-military guys will be speaking the lingo while I, having not been in the military, will make a fool of myself with, "HEY! HEY GUISE! THERE'S A THING OVER THERE LET'S SHOOT IT! OVER!"
Then you'll make audible sighs through the microphones, setting it up for me to go, "Dammit, MagicPrime! I'm a doctor not a soldier!" /geek!

Ah, I thought that line read "as we were in the real military". My bad. My embarrassing Dr. Feel Good moment will probably still hold true for when we play games with those who did serve.
Other potentially damning Dr. Feel Good moments:
"Hey guys! Check this out! I'm repeatedly crouching on top of this body I just shot so that it's like I'm humping him! Over!"

Some of these are more in depth than you guys are looking for, but you should definitely look over chapter 2 in the Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad FM 7-8.
Edit: I was surprised that some these go in depth over operating an ASIP. I would've thought that would break OPSEC.

Honestly you can find everything on the internet. I remember having to get a freaking Secret clearance to take a class to learn about some new fancy army gizmo. Later that day I google'd it and found out everything I would ever need to know about it and then some!

But seriously its pretty cool having someone that actually knows some of this stuff, one of the reasons I want to get my girlfriend's brother into the game.

I can't wait to hear the comms when we get this going, I fully expect reasonable amounts of milsim tactical movements combined with high amounts of silly comments and insane heroics.
Don't dissapoint me please.
I was an RTO for ~10 months in Iraq. I'm going to use all the obscure Army lingo/radio talk I know. I expect the same from everyone else in the military. My call sign was 2SexRomeo :winky:
I'm very sorry to hear that, our RTO was always sucking. But, I was a SAW gunner so I have no pity lol.
I'm gonna make you guys vomit with my incredibly annoying and strict radio lingo. Full 9 line medivacs for everyone!

too bad you guys are coming up with your own callsigns...the coolest part is getting one you hate assigned to you by your buddies.
In my old WoW guild, we always had nicknames for people. Called one guy Fridge 'cause he was always "brb food". Another guy was Old Maid, after the name on the first piece of loot he got in a raid. Somewhere else I heard some guy was called WAYST for "why are you still talking?" Magellan, "where the fuck are you guys?" I could go on.
Anyway, assuming everyone sticks to it and we play together, I hope you guys are open to getting your callsign changed to whatever bonehead thing you do...soooo much more fun that way IMO

I'm sure the lamer names will be changed or if someone does some horribly unspeakable/funny thing. So far I think they're all pretty awesome and very cheesy action figure-ish.
I made my own sig in like 2 minutes for when I play with you guys... it's not displaying for some reason, maybe itll sort itself out later but I dont feel like messing with it now so Ill just link it.
Anyways, Ive loved these games since OFP and cant wait for it to launch on Steam; it's going to be awesome playing with PA!

Man I loved being RTO. I only had to answer to the PSG and LT. Comms never went down due to factors that I could control so I could pretty much do whatever I wanted. Shit I don't know if I can even remember the whole 9 line any more. Low Flying Pilots Eat Pizza or something like that?
Ahh screw it! Even if my system only meets the recommended specs (E8400, 8800GT 512MB and 4GB DDR2) knowing full well that I won't be able to achieve super spectacular visuals, I ordered a copy anyway (I can eat the 20 fps gameplay ).
I couldn't pass up the opportunity getting the game for $37.79 shipped off eBay. I got the 16% off the 44.99 listed price by combining an 8% eBay coupon and 8% bing.com cash back (formerly live.com).
I've got an HD4870 1GB, Core 2 Duo @ 3.16GHz, 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM, and Vista 64 bit. What could I run this on?
That's pretty much exactly the same as mine, and based on what I read earlier in the thread, it should be able to handle a few hundred people in MP on medium. I imagine smaller matches will let us turn the graphics up a bit.
I'd like to play online, but have crappy internet and live in Australia, so it's not really an option. Is the single-player for this very good? It looks like a heap of fun, but would I be able to play MP style battles with bots? Or would I be limited to the campaign (in which case, I might still buy it anyway because it looks pretty cool).
@pyro - that seems like mediumish settings. in the benchmarks that were linked earlier in the thread, even the strongest machines were only doing 40-50fps at like 1280x1024

I don't really care about the resolution or the textures, really. The main things that stick out like a sore thumb to me are shadows, draw distance, and framerate.

I hope I can run this with decent FPS on 1920x1080 my monitors native resolution. I can run Crysis on that resolution at 40-50 FPS so I should be good right?

The one thing I heard about this game, aside from the whole "Very High settings is impossible with today's technology" thing, is that it hates high resolutions with a passion.

Dashui stands there screaming at the top of his lungs about how he can't cope with the pressure. Then out of no where a sniper puts one in his temple.
We'll just start easy with military alphabet, and over/copy.
If we stick with it, i'm sure some of us will start picking up on it more.
