We finally cleared that fucking airfield. That ambush we set up with sniper rifles was pretty nice - sneaking in behind their infantry, taking cover inside a hanger, marking our targets and then letting the bullets rip. They didn't know what hit them. Good times.
one of the most satisfying moments ever
we should start organizing some nightly games and figure out when people can play so we can get some large games going regularly
Will I have to crawl around for hours only to be shot by someone I never see?
Will I have to deal with people who never made it into the military but really like to use the slang in excess and insist on being called by some silly rank?
Depending on the answers to these two questions the game either sounds awesome or terrible.

1) You can get shot by people you can't see. Generally you shouldn't have to crawl around for hours beforehand, though. Domination and other game modes make getting to a reasonable distance from the battlefield easy. But you can spend time getting into a position only to realize it isn't nearly as concealed as you thought, and then *poof*. You don't feel like you lose agency in the game, though.
2) Er, I don't think so. I'm sure some 4Fers are big in the organized gaming community, but that hasn't been the case in PA yet.

As of now you'll most likely die in a helicopter while marking the maps full of 'Your momma give BJs here' markers.

Chief Fuzzler?
Is that an officer rank?
I appreciate the answers, I may try out the demo for a bit. I enjoy a good fight and all that, but typically as soon as you cross some sort of threshold into "Simish" territory, the community gets even worse than a normal online game community.
Edit: Well the biggest reason I ask that is the guide in the OP looks exactly like something I would want no part in.
Could Pretentious or someone else with a decent handle on the editor maybe type out some info or stuff on how to use it? Alternatively links to an ArmA 1 editor guide would be cool (as I've heard they're very similar).
I'd kinda like to give making missions a shot.

I'd have to upgrade my computer to play this, so you have to really convince me here, especially because I really hated the Arma 1 demo (and was really excited about that).
The highlight of my day was blowing up soal's helicopter as he went to 'extract' tyrannus and some others from a rooftop, and then shortly thereafter blowing up tyrannus as flew back to the battle in his helicopter.

i have it and think its pretty awesome. i got it years ago for FSX and it was my first HOTAS setup. it definitely has more than enough button to setup all types of shit and it looks awesome. adjustable hand plate is nice on the stick. maybe my only complaint is that the sticks spring isn't very stiff, but thats not really a complaint as i can adjust for that in the joystick sensitivity settings in-game if need be.
oh has a built-in clock and timer also supports 3 modes of programmed settings (A,B,C) which you can switch on the fly. further guaranteeing you won't need to take your hands off the controls when flying.

Aw jeah.
I hope your dick falls off.
I liked helping bomb blow up a hanger. And myself.
It isn't one set distance. If anything they probably mean a certain fraction of a minute of angle that snipers plug into their formula that tells them how much the point of impact will be off from the point of aim at a certain magnification.
1. hide in trees
2. cower in fear
3. enemy fires and kills one, if not then friendly opens fire
4. explosions
5. get sniped by aimbot 50 cal
6. restart, place IHOP on map
I dunno how you people can stand to fly choppers in external view, I only use that to check landing if I'm unsure. Cockpit view I can handle the craft decently without oversteering, external I end up slewing all over the place and smashing into a tree or something.
Also, holy FUCK the F-35 is a bitch to fly in VTOL mode, took a while to figure out how to work it. I hope the Khe Sahn doesn't mind that dent in the control tower. Then again I almost lost the plane the first time when I tried to do a standard landing on the carrier, had to hit the throttle and abort (I can definitely tell the flight model is not as sophisticated as a flight sim).
Still, add one more pilot to the ranks, I did rather well if I do say so myself. I'd love a chance to fly a fighter in Domination mode...

If this
Doesn't make you want it nothing will.
Uh, that video sucks. Lots of walking, some crawling, never shot at anything. Boy oh boy.
I just hope we have the drive to keep the community active for a while, I'd be dissapointed if we get to show off our tactical side with this game only for the server to die out in a couple weeks
also pilots should be able to repair choppers without an engineer/repair pad because that tail rotor is the first thing to go and if you don't get it fixed its either wobble around in the air and die or crash and join your buds on the ground
So I was messing around in the editor and I noticed there are flares for the under-barrel grenade launchers.
...holy shit, we need a night map with no NVG and only flares to light up targets. Maybe I've been watching too many WW2 movies lately, but they looked fantastic. Still trying to figure out how to set loadouts for units and maybe ammo crates/trucks. I'm guessing it must require pain in the ass scripting instead of just a gear menu after you've placed a unit.
Although I'm super stoked for this game, after downloading the demo from two different sources, both giving me corrupt files. I'm left without a taste for the new game. Being in Australia, I have to wait until mid-July before I can actually buy the game.
I was just playing with the editor, too, and made a half-way decent map I think. You start off at the bottom of a hill in a clearing. The objective is to climb the forested hill to reach where a downed US UH-1Y remains among castle ruins. All that's left of the castle are a few walls, but it makes for a highly defensible position. Russian Spetsnaz have closed in on it before you arrived, and you need to secure the wreckage from them. I placed about 12 troops at the top, with various patrols roaming the hillside. It's also set just before the crack of dawn at 5:30 AM and with heavy rain and currently supports eight players.
I haven't played this version of it yet with anyone, so I don't know how balance is. I'd love to test it out with some people in the morning, although I my computer and connection aren't great for hosting.

Server was lagging earlier / being odd so I quit out and played around with things in domination mode and found a few things to make things more fun... and less frustrating.
It's odd there is no manual or even a basic readme, the wiki is empty on the domination page.
I don't want to walk so far from the MHQ, lets move it closer so it gets blown up! NO!
When facing the back of the MHQ, you can use the "MHQ Menu" to make motorbikes and mountain bikes.
Though be careful of enemies, they might hear the engine of the motorbike.
Useful for getting into a sniping position far off to the flanks or back of a city opposite of the MHQ aswell.
If you're as good as Taranis, you can position an MHQ into a protected / fenced in area or into the woodsline thats around most towns.
Oh man, I'm out of ammo... Now I have to go back to base? NO!
The Mobile HQ and Lift Choppers can carry ammo boxes.
Get in one of those, look on you map for the "Ammo Point" in base
There's a helo landing mark on the ground there, white cross with a red H can't miss it.
Drive directly in the center of it / land, it will say "Loading Ammo box... Please wait..."
When it says "Ammobox Loaded! Ready !!!" you can drive off.
Deploy the ammobox on the field by going to either "MHQ Menu" or "Chopper Menu" and clicking drop ammo box.
Hurray an ammobox full of explosive goodies and guns to blow mans up with.
Some things for people just getting into Domination mode/ArmA:
Don't fly the shiny new earned jet or helo within a few km of a town that doesn't have it's AA taken out yet.
The flag within the sandbag boundries of where you spawn at your base can teleport you to MHQ's or paradrop every 30mins to a place of your choosing.
You can also use the back of the MHQ to teleport to another MHQ.
Join into groups using show status --> team status --> join group.
Then you can see where group mates are around you without using the map and how far.
Load MHQ with an ammo box, bring it near where the battle is going to take place but not too close using a Lift chopper. You can drop the MHQ from a good distance up... but you should be flying low.
Access useful menu items with the mouse scroll wheel or brackets [ ], select them with enter or middle mouse.
Right click or press backspace to cancel out of the menu.
On some weapons, using right mouse will zoom in a little more and hold your breath for steadier shots.
If you were just sprinting about or jogging for awhile, even crawling some distance... give yourself some time to rest and slow your breathing for more accurate shots.
The wreck chopper can pickup wrecks of earned vehicles, drop them off at the wreck repair at the main base.
If you're lagging, turn off grass and turn down object detail.
You can repair units back at base if you're not an engineer at the service centers.
If your tail rotor is shot out, keep up your speed to maintain control, it will start to spin among other bad things if you lose your speed.
MHQ's, Lift choppers and the wreck chopper will respawn back at base if destroyed.

That's a good map, my only wish it that the Super Cobra spawned on the carrier. That way I could give some better anti-armor support
