Personally I don't consider it a QTE if it's just a context sensitive button which is similar to God of War. "Here is a 1.5 second window to press A, if you get it, you get to see a cool kill." That's fine by me.

By "probably true" I mean, of course you'll have to press a button to do that, why else would she be doing it? But there's no indication you have to tap A repeatedly as fast as you can or you die.

Man, we are getting some crazy pairings this time around. First, Kojima and Castlevania and now, Team Ninja and Metroid.

    WHAT!? When was that?

Yeah, can someone point me in that direction? I must've missed it.

Hopefully Kojima can bring us a worthy 3D Castlevania game. It can't get much worse than Judgment.

    That's great to hear.

My only real concern is camera controls if there are any. Team Ninja doesn't have the best track record with these, so I'm hoping Sakamoto will call them on it if their shit isn't working properly.

Isn't that what happened with Prime? They couldn't get a decent third person camera and Nintendo said "if you can't do it well, don't" - so they went first person?

Also, regarding QTEs, I'd rather not have "stylish kills" if it means it's inefficient to shoot them to death from across the room.
I get the same feeling from this as I did when Namco took on Star Fox.

Don't think of it that way - think of it as Capcom handing Megaman to Inticreates.

What more could you possibly want?

    Some gameplay would be nice
If you look closely you can see some bits that are gameplay. Samus rolling between enemies to shoot, QTEs (ugh), and a short first person thing.

Of course that tells us very little of what is actually happening but it is technically gameplay.

edit: Metatrad don't you say that those cutscenes don't look beautiful. The anime-ish art style is obviously the result of Team Ninja working on this. I don't like anime style stuff much, if at all, but those are still incredibly good looking cutscenes.

I see no QTE's, where are people seeing this?
People are assuming that because Samus finishes the enemy off in a stylish manner it means you had to have pressed some specific buttons very quickly. Which is probably true?
I really hope not. I hate QTEs so much.
They just looked like obliteration techniques to me. Or something analogous.

Star Fox: Assault was actually suprisingly faithful except for the parts when it wasn't. The underlying mechanics of the game were completely fine, it just needed a heavier focus on Arwings. And it was kind of short. There would have been an obvious way to fix both of those issues.

I wonder what the development cycle was like for that game.

    Sounds good to me!

Actually, that reminds me. During the press conference did someone say something about exploring the rich backstory? Because really, there isn't one. Anything they purport to "explore" is made up on the spot and shoehorned into the existing holes. If you do it well, it's seamless. Other times, not so much.

That's just how adding material to the canon works.

He's saying that when it did things well, it did things very well, and it wouldn't really take much to fix it up.

Plus Star Fox was diluted by Nintendo's vision that it's a sci-fi fantasy, not a rail shooter first and foremost. It looks like they're willing to move in whatever direction they need to with Metroid.

Not exactly Retro's fault but problems with controlling them seems to have been one of many.

The game was originally envisioned as having third-person perspective gameplay, but this was changed to a first-person perspective after Miyamoto intervened, causing almost everything already developed to be scrapped. Among the reasons for leaving the third-person perspective were Rare's trouble with the camera in Jet Force Gemini, shooting in third-person "not being very intuitive" and exploration being easier using first-person.
