I know it didn't make sense, but that minigun was just awesome to have.

I really enjoyed the alt-play where you played the dude with all the floating swords.

I remember it being surprisingly mediocre as a weapon but I used it anyways.

Because, you know, it's a gatling gun.

Yeah, it wasn't great, but it was fun.

I think the tonfas were pretty good, IIRC. I know the scythe was pretty great.

DAMMIT I WANT THIS GAME AGAIN.

    Beat the game. Holy shit.
The ending... oh my god, the ending. First, when Jason Isaacs' voice showed up I squealed with joy thinking "Dracula! Yes!". But he was Satan, which I guess makes more sense considering the ridiculous scale of things by that point (far beyond being in a castle and killing vampires using supernatural powers). But then the real ending... wow. It was better than I could have hoped, though I have to think it through some more for it to really make sense in my mind. But as great as I thought Jason Isaacs' voice would be for Dracula, I always thought Robert Carlyle would take the cake, but of course he won't be because he's the hero. But oh, look, he's fucking Dracula. You become Dracula. Awesome.

Just finished it. Liked it overall. Thoughts on ending-
I thought they were going to setup another Belmont coming after Gabriel, and that would be the standard Castlevania plot that we all know and love. Modern day took me by surprise. I DO like the fact that it is implied that Gabriel may have inacted the same spell as the original Lords of Shadow, in that he severed his good half and sent it to Heaven to be with Marie, while his evil half- Dracula remained behind
The way I saw the entire course of Belmont's character was the same as Vlad the Impaler's was (from Bram Stoker's Dracula). A man who fights long and hard for his faith, whose loved one dies as a result of lies. He gains immortality and becomes a Vampire. He was once the most valiant fighter for God, now he cares nothing for religion. Both characters get extremely angry and resentful of their faith because of it's hypocrisies. If you break it down like that, it's the exact same story as Vlad from that movie. Obviously everything is ratcheted up to 11 for Castlevania, because it's a game, but in the end the events are absolutely similar. It's awesome.

Not to mentioned obvious visual similarities:

After I beat this I'm exchanging it for a Ps3 copy and doing it all over again.

Here's an interview with Mercury Steam's Producer. They were really doing it for the art.

I liked that interview up until he said comparing this with Shadow of the Colossus and God of War was not fair. I disagree with people who say it's ripped them off completely with no originality of it's own, but this guy should at least be honest enough to say they got a pretty good amount of inspiration from God of War for their combat system, and a LOT of inspiration from SotC.

    About the ending.
When Gabriel says that his name is 'Dracul', Zobek responds "At one time perhaps.." Implying that between the ending of the game and this epilogue Gabriel was the usual Castlevania Dracula that we've all known, but then something happened and he locked himself away in that chapel for who knows how long.

Perhaps other people took the name Belmont as an honor to the Gabriel that was a great brotherhood knight not realizing that Gabriel had become Dracula and they did the usual Castlevania song and dance for a few centuries until maybe one time Gabriel got the upper hand and killed a Belmont and then just eventually got bored with immortality and locked himself away.

Hopefully 1 DLC fills in the gap between the ending of the game and the epilogue and the other DLC continues from that point in modern day. Who knows.... it may be 1999 in that epilogue and some guy named Julius could show up...

Hey, how about that. It's now Monday. Seven days since Gamefly shipped my copy. I still don't have it. It damn well better be in my mailbox when I get home from work today. A full week to ship a letter-sized package someplace that is less than 11 hours away by car is pathetic.

I just beat it last night. amazing game.

As far as the ending goes:

I think there are several things to consider here.
    1) Gabriel absorbed all the power so hes primed himself to ascend into heaven when he dies however he knows if he does this he will leave behind an even more powerful lord of shadow. So what is his only alternative. Turn himself into an immortal vampire so he never dies and subjects the world to his shadow brother. Considering how the anti-hero is all the rage now, its believable that he has done what he has done all these years as dracula to stay alive and prevent the cycle from occuring again. So he has to feed on humans... but from his state in the epiloge he obviously isnt eating very often...he has the appearance of a starving man so hes likely suffering from hunger, living forever, once again forced to kill to protect the world.
Even when he is killed he has made it so he can be ressurected. Also to protect the people around him hes made his home the attic of a church...to weaken him inbetween neccessary feedings.

    2) While it was never mentioned...its possible that Gabriel and his wife already had a child. also...isnt His wifes name the same name as Alucards mother? This concievably could be the prequel to SoTN. The lines from the ending of SoTN are fairly consistant with this plotline except for the fact that the villagers burned his mother as a witch instead of beheading in SoTN.

    3) Why is Zodek still alive?

    4) Where did the broken godmask come from (The one that death was wearing that was shattered)...
Epic story. Sure there is a touch of GoW here but in a different direction. Look forward to more.
Never understood why people complain when people make another game thats similar to another that was simply amazing...Shouldnt we be glad to have more Diablo, more GoW, more Starcraft etc...

The score was the weakest part of the game for me. The Waterfalls of Agharta, while a pretty track heavily inspired from Super Castlevania IV, was used more often than it should have been. I really wish that each area in the game had its own theme music that I would stay in my head after turning off my PS3.

As it stands right now the only tune from Lords of Shadow that I can whistle off of the top of my head is one of the two themes that plays when you die.

Holy shit, this game is great. I'm not a fan of GoW style combat normally, but this game is super fast paced and visceral. Knight is pretty hard for me, but dying isn't frustrating because the fights are so fast-paced. I just feel like I need to be more tactical. I don't see how anyone could just mash one button and get anywhere.

I'm only part way through chapter two, but I really enjoy the troll fights. Every one of them takes me a bunch of tries to win. I think the only thing I don't like is how dodge/block are tied to the same button. I always try to block while moving, and end up dodging instead. It's hard for me to get used to.

Oh man I need to unlock those.

And this game keeps kicking itself up a notch. Just played from chapter 3 to somewhere in chapter 5 I think
Lycan Labryinth to the Masoleum catacombs.

So far I'm highly amused at the fact that Gabirel
and Patrick Stewart are teaming up to kick vampire ass
Chapter 4 was more compact than the rest of the chapters but was pretty awesome all the way through.

It is. My battle with the Stone Idol Titan was particularly so. It just so happened I had Gabriel angled so that the titan was backlit by the sunrays streaming through the clouds just as the titan theme hit its crescendo... epic stuff. Wish I could have taken a screenshot to use as wallpaper.

God this game is so fun. Makes me think that this is a perfect transition from the old games. Even though it's a 3d environment, the way the camera follows you around bends and corridoors feels like 2.5d. And while there's less freedom, it still feels like there is exploration. Also the world itself is such a cool setting. I really hope for lots of DLC or more games in this vain. Here's hoping it sold really well.

On the strength of the demo, I picked this up Friday on the way home (have I mentioned my addiction?). Since I haven't played a Castlevania since SotN on PS1, I couldn't care care less whether this is/isn't "Castlevania"; it's a great game, period. "Van Helsing/Hammer Horror: the Video Game" with God of War style combat and Shadow of the Colossus levels? Yes, PLEASE!

The Combat Cross is the coolest weapon I've seen in a game in a long time. It's such an obvious choice for a paladin type character, I can't believe nobody's come up with it before now. You know how, during the loading screen, while Capt. Picard is talking, there's an animation of the chain extending. When you upgrade the Cross, the animation changes to match it! I dig that they've paid that much attention to detail. And those sketch animations that illustate your combat upgrades? Awesome.

The voice cast is fantastic. I always knew that Dr. Rush was the best part of Stargate: Universe, but after hearing him as Gabriel, Robert Carlyle is just fucking cool. Everyone gushes about Patrick Stewart's narration, and don't get me wrong, it's good. I just think that it's too subdued. A role like that calls for a more bombastic delivery. Maybe someone, like, oh I don't know, maybe BRIAN BLESSED! Maybe it's just that my geek brain can't wrap itself around hearing Capt. Picard's voice coming out of Ramirez. Like when you take a drink, and you're expecting Coke, but it turns out to be milk.

You know, wen I first got tot he world map, I noticed that there is a VERY obvious place for a gigantic castle to go in the upper left portion of the map. It has a ring of mountains, wit ha little tiny circle in the middle of it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this (spoiler):
Is where the Castle goes, and Gabriel ventures there to learn the spell to sever his soul so his good side can see Marie.....then the Dracula dark half will be left behind in his new throne room.)

Alright Im having trouble with the clock tower, I think my game is bug like I do the platforming part up until where I have to rotate the switch to bring the platform up. Every time I do it gabriel just lets go when I get part way, I've tried letting the beams go back and then lift but again he just lets go for some reason. I've tried restarting my game, and I even went to a walkthrough to see if I was just missing something but no I just can't seem to make it work.

Any suggestions? For now I'm turning my console off and just hoping when I get back to playing it will be resolved but I kind of doubt it.
