Very interested in this game, as I loved Super Castlevania IV so much, and didn't really care for the Metroid RPG turn the series took. Tried out the demo and I honestly don't know how to feel about it. It was challenging, and that part is fine, but I couldn't grasp the block/dodge timing on those wolves and eventually gave up after continuing to die.

Does the final game explain that stuff better?
A key difference between this and GoW is that, like Ninja Gaiden, you constantly need your finger on the trigger for defense.
Also, later on, those health fountains become more scarce. Instead, you have Light and Shadow Magic, and turning on your Light magic restores health for each hit you land.
The key is the Focus gauge. It's like your style gauge. Getting hit even once sets it to zero, but pulling off a counter makes it shoot up. When you get it full, recharging magic becomes very easy.
Ceno, are you referring to the first Warg you fight? Where you have to just block his first few attacks, then dodge the unblockable? You only need to dodge him when he flashes white before he attacks. That's how you know he's going to do his unblockable.
The game doesn't help you learn how to Perfect Block so much as it enforces it as a requirement to success on higher difficulties. Basically, its a trial by fire. Once you get the hang of the timing on it it's amazing how much easier you will find it is to learn how to block new attacks.
i just used perfect blocking against a later boss (chapter 10, i think. really cool fight). it was extremely useful. because it turns your focus power on immediatel, letting you get more orbs, and it interrupts the enemy combo, AND it does more damage than a normal direct attack combo, it is extremely efficient against single enemies. i have a harder time against weird enemies that have weird attack tells, like those coffin....things. or enemies who do lots of unblockables, like the vampire boss.

Okay, I'll give it another whirl. Another part of it was the fact that the screen is busy as hell, what with the thunderstorms and particle effects. I didn't even know that giant wolf flashed, or I may have attributed the flash to lightning or something.

OK so I beat it, is there a way for me to "start fresh" on Knight difficulty, in that I don't have any upgrades or what have you. I wanna raw dog it.
Even at the default level of difficulty (there are four in total) you’ll find yourself dying a little more than you’d like (This is Castlevania after all)
Too bad dying never really amounts to anything since you literally get warped back to where you died (most of the time).
Also, I agree with whoever said that the only times he died, he felt it was due to some cheap shit, like wonky camera angles or LOL SURPRISE ATTACK! situations. Also accidently pressing down while you are hanging on a ledge.

I don't like how some of the controls are mapped. Specifically the gauntlet attacks being tied to Block.

Ledge mishaps have been 90% of my non werewolf boss related deaths so far, and I just passed the second chupacabra.
I even died once going up and down a ledge too fast, dropped to the lower one again, grabbed on and died.
I had to stop myself from playing it this weekend because I didn't want to finish this in 2 days.
I once swung across a chasm, dipping below the 'death line' so Gabriel died mid-swing, then the game just respawned me on the ledge I was origonally going to land on. It's happened like 3 times with swinging and jumping long distances.
The last sentence is amusing. Looks like IGA is too campy for them.
Araujo went on to say that Konami had asked for a "rough" and "aggressive" score to contrast with the series' "effeminate" old image.

Awesome
As awesome as this news is, and as much as I absolutely do not want to jinx this....are we certain that the next game will be another HD epic console adventure?
I'm just saying that as much as I would hate for this thing to pull a Valkyria Chronicles and go portable....a classic 2D version using the animation style of the skills section of the book would be pretty sweet.
But yeah, I'm more than happy for this company to be officially responsible for future CV endeavors.
Alright Im having trouble with the clock tower, I think my game is bug like I do the platforming part up until where I have to rotate the switch to bring the platform up. Every time I do it gabriel just lets go when I get part way, I've tried letting the beams go back and then lift but again he just lets go for some reason. I've tried restarting my game, and I even went to a walkthrough to see if I was just missing something but no I just can't seem to make it work.
Any suggestions? For now I'm turning my console off and just hoping when I get back to playing it will be resolved but I kind of doubt it.
yeah i want to emphasize this:
in the clocktower, and elsewhere, do NOT hold RT to rotate switches. DO NOT DO IT. it will glitch out and let go. instead of making you hold it like every other game ever, they make you press it once to grab and press once to let go. if you hold it, you will become frustrated and fail to see how to lift the platform.
I had to laugh out loud at that clocktower crank. I mean, one of the reviews i watched complained about how horrible the puzzles in the game are and how obtuse and impossible they are and then NAMED that one specifically (is it really even a puzzle?) by saying "Clock Tower crank puzzle, I'm looking at you..."
And I got there expecting some horrible timed puzzle with cranks and gears and crazy platforming under a time limit and what not and then all you do is just rotate a crank, like you have many times before in this game. But that's just another example of just how half assed the reviews for this game have been. Which is a crying fucking shame considering how many shallow minded peons there are that would eat this game up otherwise.

I have to wonder how they even made it to the clocktower at all if they couldn't figure out to let go of RT when turning cranks.
I mean, there are so many of them in the game, you'd have to have figured it out on the first one.
It goes like this.
1) See Crank
1a)Crank may need lever
2) Hit RT to grab onto Crank
3) Turn until enemies spawn.
4) Kill enemies.
5) Grab Crank again.
6) Turn until it stops turning.
7) Move on.
It's pretty fucking simple and every single time you run into one it's the exact same deal.
it's really unintuitive, and it's a poorer design choice because holding and releasing allows faster reactions to enemies spawning, especially with a mushy pressure-sensitive trigger.
You should discover it the first time they ambush you while turning a crank. You'll let go of the button and get hit and then wonder why you didn't let go. Then you'll realize it's a toggle and never do it again.
What frame rate issue? Either I'm not sensitive to this, or people are highly exaggerating.
Are you playing on PS3 or 360?
I'm on 360 and basically whenever I'm not in combat, the frame rate gets pretty damn choppy just running around exploring
PS3. I haven't noticed any chop, in or out of battle.
And where in the hell is the second shadow gym in the Refectory? I found the life stone and the shadow gem in the tunnel leading to the
Butcher's kitchen,
, but cannot find the second one! I've played it 3 times and no dice. Even checked the guide on gamefaqs but he doesn't mention the second one.
This is true on the 360 also. People are highly exaggerating.
And to answer your question
In the room with all 6 magic crests if you go to you right you'll see a place to grab on with your whip if you get close enough to the edge. Go up there and follow all the balance beams around.
My god, there is just too much shit left to do after beating the game. Paladin, trials, arks, upgrades, gems...
I'm going to need some coffee and a claw hammer.
None of those are really compelling reasons to play through the game again for me. The vampire castle segments are really fun, so I might go through those again, but past that I don't know. Can't wait for the DLC though.
Just plugged my first hour into the game. Very impressed, very.

I firmly believe they could have taken Chapter 5,6,7 and 8, maybe put in some of the enemies from other parts of the game and make the levels a tiny bit bigger to add about another hour of gameplay and sold that at 30€ as a stand alone game. People would have bought and loved it.

EDIT: Nevermind. I got it. I missed something REALLY obvious.
You don't have to aim. Just keep hitting the whip grab button and spin/flick the stick.

spin it COUNTERCLOCKWISE.
my hands were retarded and refused to spin it CCW so i had to sit there and look at them and force them to do so.
