that intro video was pretty rad (had to keep the 80's thing going)
the part where the do the slow-mo mountain side drifting, and then the camera lingers on the destroyed/repaired section that the car almost hit was pretty awesome

buying all the Avatar clothing for Forza 3 will probably run you the cost of one of the Fanatec wheels :P

Maybe if it was 25c. As it is though, they keep on trying to charge $4-5 for this bullshit.

Another link to the FM3 intro, better quality download links available.

24l4upy.jpg
chespace wrote:
FUN FACT: The entire intro video with the Challenger taking off at the end was captured in-game and not during replay. Basically, we detached the camera from the back of the car in 3rd person view and scripted it to do flybys and choreographed moves. These are essentially in-game graphics with no added AA, etc. We had considered doing a CG rendered intro video but felt confident that the game looked good enough to just do it all in-game in real-time.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. For those of you who are into avatars, we have pics of awesome Forza gear going up on FM.net shortly with our Gone Gold article. :D

Alternative trailer version of the intro video, though it seems someone posted it early as it wasn't supposed to be up until the demo was out. So no, the "Demo out now" bit at the end isn't true yet. ;P

I really, really, really hope they do some kind of a replay editing DLC that lets us detatch the cameras, move them around, etc. Similar to what EA did with Skate 2.

Wow, i think I am somewhat acquainted with the Turn 10 guy with the black Viper. I've talked to him before, a long time ago. I was wondering if that was the same car.

Er, you mean Che?

The Turn10 guy you speak of is Che Chou, aka "Shoe", of EGM fame, who now works for T10 as their Community Manager.

If you talked to him before, a long time ago.. probably not -- the Viper is in FM3, he's only had it for a few weeks/months.

OK, then it's a different guy. I've talked to a guy who was involved with PGR3, PGR4, Forza 2, and Forza 3. He has/had a black supercharged Viper.

Nothing wrong with that, euro cars are the BEST cars!

Communist!

But yeah, European cars fucking rock. I pretty much just love all cars. American, Euro, Japanese, what have you.

yeah, I'm actually pretty much there with you, although Japanese are at the bottom of my personal preference list (with the obvious exceptions that rank up there with Euro for me - GT-R, 370z, some infinitis...).

One thing I've noticed is that Euro cars seem to age better than Japanese cars. If you look at an early 90's BMW or Mercedes, it looks kinda classic, while an early 90's Lexus looks really dated. Japanese cars might look cooler right now, but they don't age as well as Euro. And when I say Euro, I'm 90% talking German... because holy crap old lamborghinis look ridiculous! I watched the beginning of Cannonball Run 2 the other night, which starts with "2 hot chicks in a white Lamborghini" and it was really, really awful the way 90% of everything from the 80's is awful...

Eh, I feel like car design for almost everything in the late 80s/early 90s kinda sucked, it's not just the Japanese stuff. American car design was boring and shitty too; look at that "Foxbody" Mustang, for instance. Some of the older older classic Japanese stuff has aged really well, in my opinion.

I will never understand why that car is so widely adored on Forza forums. I mean, OK, maybe some people grew up in the '80s and were happy to see the Mustang finally get some power under the hood again after that whole Mustang II fiasco, but from the front doors forward this might as well be a goddamned Tempo.

So I hadn't tried driving my Esprit since I started using ABS as the only assist. I hop into it today for a test drive and it's awesome. Somehow this thing is really easy to drive and pretty fast in the process.

I'm going to echo the "Testarossa is sexy" sentiment. I've always loved that car since I was a little kid. It always struck me as "the classic Ferrari" for some reason. It's clean, it's sleek, nothing about the car is awkward or out of place...and those legendary side intakes are just fucking...fucking sweet, man...

That and the F40.

I love the F40. Really nice to drive in Forza 2 as well.

I agree. I think I pretty much always associated Ferrari with the TR and the F40 because those were their two flagships (for lack of a better term) when I was a kid and first got into cars.

Also, good GOD those in-game clips look like sex. Pure, uncut, unpasteurized sex.

And yeah, I never ever liked the foxbody Mustangs. Always thought they were an ugly-as-shit pock mark on the legacy of an otherwise very attractive car.

On the other hand, I did have a friend who owned an early '90s Mustang convertible, and it was at least pretty damn fun to ride in, where you were more able to appreciate its performance over its appearance. Then he moved out to Jersey and traded it in for a Mini Cooper.

Also, when I was like ten or eleven, I thought pitting a Ferrari F40 against a Porsche 959 would be the coolest showdown ever. Then the Lamborghini Diablo had to come out and complicate all that.

Back on topic, I'm trying to think of some of the classic cars that'll show up in Forza 3 that'll have full cockpit view for the first time in any video game. Test Drive Unlimited and the last two PGR games covered a lot of the bases, but I'm pretty sure the '71 Skyline, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Datsun 510 have never been given that treatment in a game before.

I love the 80's/early 90's angular designs and felt a huge loss when everyone started making flowy curvy things in the mid 90's. Also I think that overal American design sucked from early eighties up until Ford introduced the Fusion. But again, my opinion, please don't crucify me :P

Something I noticed: I expected the usual generic Forza aero to come back, so I didn't pay a hell of a lot of attention to the customization on that Challenger when I first watched the video -- but then I noticed that the hood wasn't the normal stock one the Challenger comes with. You think they'll finally have custom aero hoods, bumpers and side skirts for muscle cars now?

EDIT: I'm a dumb. It's an SRT-10 Concept.

You're not far off, imo. The only really good-looking American-made cars that came out in that time period were Corvettes, and Camaros. I never saw a 'vette or a Cammy that I didn't like, tbh.

I will partially concede that the 4th gen SS was easily the least attractive Camaro ever built, imo. And even then, it could be pretty sleek. The early-4th gen Z28 was the supermodel of the generation, if you ask me. I still find that car to be pretty damn sexy.

All I have to say in response to that is "They better be." I'm happy that the American manufacturers have woken up to reality and are busting their asses to take the market back from the Japanese companies. Unfortunately though, this economy has led us to a place where the majority of us will be driving boring, fuel-efficient boxes that do nothing for us aesthetically compared to the powerplants of old. Which only makes me want FM3 even more, so I can escape from the boredom and drive cars I love. :D

I am totally not a pickup-truck dude but I like how the Raptor looks totally Baja-ready and has that huge "FORD" across the entire width of its grill.

Sort of back on topic, I'm interested in seeing how the SUVs and trucks in Forza 3 are going to handle. The downloadable SUV class in Midnight Club LA seemed like it'd be pretty stupid, but buying a Range Rover and slapping some vague approximation of rally racing livery made it feel a lot less ridiculous. I'm guessing Arcadian-style meetups involving SUVs will almost inevitably devolve into hilarious rollover contests.

Oh shit, I didn't know they were changing the Mustang again. Already. But yeah, the 2010 is holyfucksexy. Especially compared to that ugly thing they're currently calling the Mustang. It doesn't look like they're making any major alterations, but damn. The ones they are making really make a difference.

Also, according to the "so far confirmed" list, they're including a '68 Shelby GT500KR (!!!), and a '70 Boss 429 (429 is more numbers than 302 :D)

But yeah...1968 GT500KR. King of the Road. Those two little letters make such a huge difference in the desirability of the car, man...<3

Now that I think about it...I'm pretty pumped for these two. Each of these sell for well into the six-figure range at auction (real auctions, not in-game), and for good reason. Can't wait to paint the track with some rubber. :D

Question on wheel stuff: I'm thinking of picking up the MS 360 wheel for this, but my gaming seat is a recliner chair and I'm trying to figure out what the best wheel-mounting option would be for someone trying to do things on the cheap. I've read some people throw around some online blueprints for make-it-yourself wheelmounts, but that seems out of my grasp. Anybody got any good suggestions in the $50-$100 range for something I don't have to build from scratch?

The company I now work for manufactures the steering column assembly for both the Mustang S197 program and Taurus program (as well as the Lincoln MKS, Flex, Ranger, Explorer and several others). We will also be the steer tech provider on Focus in 2011. It's been a tremendous year for us so far despite all the automotive crises. It's a little shocking just how healthy the Mustang program has been through all this.

I'm trying to unload my 360 wheel, in case you cared.

As for wheel mounts, I play Forza on my computer desk and clamp the wheel to that. I never saw a mount I really liked. The good ones are too big and hard to stow away, the bad ones are easy to pack up but are rickety pieces of crap.
