    Oh man, I am excited. It looks like the Fanatec wheels will go out tomorrow (Friday) via UPS from Germany to those who paid for the advanced shipping. That means it is actually possible for me to get my wheel on launch day. Though I suspect it will probably be Wednesday or Thursday.

    Also, as a reminder to anyone who didn't see it on the previous page...add PAForza3 to your xbox friends if you want to get on the Forza 3 player list.

    Quick question for anyone with experience of gamestation in the UK
    I picked up my LE this morning, but won't be able to play till a lot later today.
    My understanding was that by pre-ordering I'd get a code for an exclusive Evo over and above the LE swag, but I just got handed a shrinkwrapped pack, and can only see 2 scratchcards for the enclosed DLC, nothing for the gamestation exclusive.
    Should I get onto them?

    ^Thats the big question IMO. If I can't specifically search for something...say "B-Class point to point" races, I'll be pissed. I've just now realized how huge this is. In FM2, if I had no friends online, I would just try and search for a race by the car class I wanted to run. This could potentially suck. A lot.

    You can search by type (Circuit, Drift, Drag) and Class. That's it. And the only class searches in the system right now are A and up. No class search for B or under yet, but that should change by tomorrow or tuesday at the latest.
    Ah. So no searching by ranked/unranked races?

    Nope, and it'll blow when the online dies down. I can still pop into forza 2 and find the exact race I want to run. I somehow doubt that will happen in forza 3 a couple years from now.

    Edit: And you euro PAers really dissapoint me. No pictures yet? What the hell?!

    This is exactly what was in my pack, and I didn't get the LE or preorder.

    Yes, that means I have it! Impressions are that it's going to eat up some inestimable amount of my time....

    So apparently, unless some NeoGAF poster is fucking with us, Photomode can now do THIS:

    x3x3sp.jpg

    It is going to take a lot of willpower to keep me from doing that for each late '60s/early '70s car I own. "Hey guys, here's another solarized mod op-art Peter Max monstrosity!"

    You could get effects sort of like that in FM2.. crank up the saturation, mess with the other sliders, presto, wacky pictures.

    I seem to remember having an old picture of the Polyphony Ford GT on the test oval that was in some wacky color scheme like that one up there. I can't remember if I did it in-game or in Photoshop later, though.

    So I've got this and played this a bit now. First of all, anyone expecting a pre-order bonus car should just check with the cashier that they've given you the voucher with the code. I just said "is my preorder car in there or...?" and he grabbed a voucher from under the counter and stuck it in. I imagine it's something that's easy to forget.

    First impressions of the game:
    • The tracks all look a lot nicer. Even though I'm seeing a bit of repetition with the Montseratt tracks in starter events they have some visual distinctions that stop them merging into one in my head.
    • I'm really surprised they've kept the level restrictions for a whole lot of events. I thought the whole idea of not having to unlock cars was that I could save up and grab any car and race it. Very disappointing choice for me, as I'm unlikely to reach the later levels.
    • The Reventon is an awesome drive and Circuit de Catalunia is great for fast cars.
    • I love getting a new car every level instead of upon completing events. So far they've been nice surprises and I've actually found them really useful. Levelling is nice and fast, which helps too.
    • Typing in four 20-digit codes for my extra content is painful.
    • The Voiceover is already becoming more than a little annoying. I'm surprised it's unskippable but I hear he disappears pretty soon.
    • Rewind is already making this so much more painless than FM2.
    • Overall I'm really happy with what I've seen so far. Can't wait to get back in it.

    Some of my impressions:

    --I really like rewind for races. I think I like the season mode thing where it suggests races.
    --In time trials, it appears that you can't tune any of the cars. If this turns out to be true, I'm really happy about it.
    --In time trials, you have to start from standing. I hate this, because it forces you to do an out lap even more than the previous rolling start did. On Fujimi and Nurburgring this is annoying.
    -The leaderboards are sort of weirdly broken up and I haven't quite figured them out yet. They are the part of the game where I expect I will spend a lot of time, although they feel sort of marginal in the design.
    -I've played through the first "season" and am generally really happy.

    So there's no more prize cars for getting all gold in an event, only award cars for hitting levels? That seems kind of odd if that's the case, but maybe that'll give me less motivation to cheap through an event against Easy AI just to get a car for free.

    This is kinda sad, maybe: I've already written a list, taking the free level-up award cars into account, of all the vehicles I want to prioritize buying, as well as the designs and color schemes I have planned for them. The list is more than 50 cars long.

    I noticed a whole load of appealing cars when I was browsing the shop earlier. In the upgrade shop I'm also happier with how things are laid out. Engine swaps and drivetrain swaps are now separate affairs. Doing front and rear tyre widths individually is something I don't quite understand, though.

    The Legends DLC has finally finished for me. Benchmark ring airfield is basically a big flat area with two hangers at one end. I'm not quite sure why we have so many layouts for this track, as it doesn't seem like it's designed with racing in mind. Still, nudging someone into the hanger wall is fun.

    One thing I hadn't noticed about the Sidewinder test tracks is that they're now called Layout A, Layout B etc. rather than Death Adder, King Cobra etc. Seems like going from snake names to letters is a step backwards and I'm not sure of the logic behind that decision. Still, I enjoyed one or two of them from time to time so good to see them back.

    This is mainly for drag racing, because you want the rear tire to have as much grip as you can, so you widen the tire to create a bigger footprint. At the same time you want as little traction as you can get from the front tire since you're not turning at all, and extra traction will slow you down so you make the front tires as small as possible to get the smallest footprint you can.

    It can also work like that in with a circuit race, but it wont be as drastic as a drag race. A fix for the back end will sliding out in turn could be putting a bigger tire on the back with an added benefit of more grip for acceleration as well.

    Thanks for the info on the pre-order codes. I spoke to the shop and it appears they didn't get any to that particular store. Manager apologised profusely and said he will make sure I have one tomorrow.

    And now I'm back from hospitl I can install this bad boy and see what the fuss is about

    Mostly the gamertag recovery bullshit.

    You can accept invites and such through the xbox.com website IIRC. The account never needs to exist on anyone's 360.

    Further thoughts after playing this till way too late tonight:
    • Liking the little changes to the old tracks. New York is much more interesting now and Sebring is significantly bumpier.
    • Auto-upgrade is actually really useful, even for someone who likes to pick out their own parts. I just use it to add finishing touches up to the class limit.
    • As I was afraid of the marketplace is becoming flooded with the prize cars you get for the earlier levels. Not a huge deal but it's a shame to see the Fiat 500 reduced to this.
    • Lap certification is picky. Lots of times I've gotten a fault for no reason I can think of other than a possibility of bottoming out.

    Lap certification? Sounds . . . interesting.

    For those of you eagerly awaiting your Fanatec wheels . . . do any of you also own a 360 wireless wheel? I have an old one that I still enjoy using, but I'd have no problem upgrading to a Fanatec wheel with 6-speed shifter, pedals, and a wheel stand if the difference is significant enough. I can't wait to hear what you guys report about the wheel.

    (Isn't the Fanatec wheel the only gaming accessory so far, other than USB microphones, to work with the PC, 360, and PS3?)

    Things that will de-certify a lap, taken from the forza forums
    To uncertify your times, there are a few things that could happen:

    * Go off track
    * Hit a wall
    * Hit another car
    * Draft in front or behind another car at over 100mph
    * Rewind

    One other thing that can uncertify your times is doing something to uncertify in the last sector of a lap. This will uncertify the next lap as well.

    Bottoming out will de-certify a lap, but it's listed as a bug and should be fixed in the first patch.
