Not a huge fan of the rubber ball physics when a car flips, but I guess that's better than not enough. Should make for some epic crashes.

I think the thing Turn 10 needs to work on for Forza 4 (besides putting Forza 2's online system back in the game) is real and accurate deformation of the car's model. What's making the flips look so jaring is that there is no roof damage except for a texture swap.

And uncle, that second shot is really nice.

The crowd did sound pretty dumb, but they are race fans.

Also, when I get back from Dallas, I think I'm going to try this place out:

I've never done anything above the little fun park style go-karts.

I was playing PGR2 again the other night on my O.G. Xbox. The car deformation in that was actually rather good. That whole game is, actually. It's held up well.

Man, I never had a problem with uphill starts. The footbrake always worked fine for me. Just gotta move that right foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pretty quick, and you're fine. Rev the engine up a bit (but not too much in the interest of preserving your clutch's good health) and slowly let out the clutch pedal. Never had a problem doing it that way. I kinda had a crash course (pun fully intended) when I learned how to drive a stick. My truck was given to me as a Christmas gift from my dad back on Christmas Eve 2001, and I had to drive the fucker home on Christmas Day. Had some problems with the whole "stop'n'go" aspect of it--tollbooths were a bitch that first time--but for the most part, it came pretty naturally.

I've started looking at my bank account, looking at PAX East coming up, and thinking I'll be fine with the MS wheel for now. Have Fanatec said whether they'll be making more of these wheel/pedal/shifter sets after the current manufacturing run is sold out?

I'm pretty sure I read tha Fanatec will continue taking orders.

Just got a message from Gamestop. I didn't know they were doing midnight release, so I'm pretty psyched now.

There are only going to be 10000 of the Fanatec wheels. But they have only sold about 4000 of those. So...you've got some time.

Everyone buy my Commander Keen sprite on the storefront :)

I suck so much at the livery editor...

    keen2.jpg

I swear to God I glanced at this for a moment and thought it was an actual photograph of a Reventon at a track, with a sprite graphic photoshopped on the door.

I've been playing about with the vinyl editor and livery editor a bit too. This is one of the designs I've come up with so far:

    25twcg9.jpg

Have also created a Manchester United football logo which has been quite lucrative for me. Have made over a million credits from selling it on the store front so far.

I'm no economy major, but I have to wonder what consequences--if any--releasing the game at different times in different regions will ultimately have on the in-game economy, and if Turn10 considered that at all.

So, how's everyone plan on wrangling their car collection? I actually got kind of overwhelmed pretty quickly in Forza 2 and only really got to know a couple of my favorite cars, but this time around no matter how many prize cars get thrown at me I'm just going to focus on perfecting one and making it my "baby"- upgrading it, tuning it, painting it, and winning as many races as I can with it- until I feel like I'm ready to move on to the next one. Apparently the career mode's more accommodating of that approach, whereas with Forza 2 I felt like I'd get stuck if I didn't switch to a new car from a different region or with a different drivetrain or whatever. I already mentioned upthread that I compiled a list of most of the cars I'm specifically going to seek out and work with in this way, and the first to get the There Are Many Cars Like This But This Is Mine treatment is going to be the '84 Supra. I wonder how far I can get in that one.

After a month or two it will have all evened out, I'd think.

In Forza 2, my modus operandi was to think up a design I wanted to do and then pick the car that I thought it would work best on, and that was what I concentrated on.

    That's all.

As soon as I get my hands on the '98 Supra RZ, I'll be sticking with it for as long as humanly possible. That, and I plan on winning quite a few races with the '69 Z28.

So I went to the 24 Hours of LeMons endurance race with my friend's team this weekend and shot a bunch of footage and photos. Here's a quick clip of a fender bender I caught the tail end of:

    http://vimeo.com/7246308

It was a fun weekend with lots of great-looking crap heaps racing around the track. My friends ran two cars, a 1990 Audi 90 with the theme "I love the Audi 90's" and a 1997 Michael Jackson Tribute Miata. I'll probably get pictures and more video up this week.

So besides the lemons, there were some freakin' cool cars at the track. There's a guy with 3 matching white Porsche 911 GT3Cup cars. His daily driver is a Bentley Continental GT convertible. Many generations of BMW M-cars all over the place. There was a Murcielago Spyder. A Ford GT and a GT40. Lots of Mazda track cars. An older Ferrari (unsure of the model, late 90's or earlier 00's). A very nice, classy Maserati coupe. There was a gorgeous Mercedes S-Class parked at the track all weekend. At some point saturday night, someone attached a pair of blue truck nutz to it...

As a guy who appreciates cars more than actually gets my hands dirty with 'em, it was a fun weekend.

Going to races is a lot more fun than I would have thought.

I went to my first race back in august (motogp) after years of thinking they'd be boring.. and now I'm hooked. I got all kinds of plans to visit race tracks next summer.

You should come up to Road America when the ALMS comes through next year. We could play some black jack and drink some booze, and maybe even get some hookers

Tomorrow at Gamestop. Midnight if you preordered.
Not sure how other retailers will go about it, but I'd bet it's available everywhere Tuesday.

Quick question. I've started using the Event List more than the season mode. Am I missing out on anything by not taking the season route other than achievements for completing each season?

    Quick question #2

Have the racing sim fanatics come up with an ideal field of view setting to make the cockpit view the best? I've heard both 62 degrees and 70 degrees recommended.

I tried 62 but it still felt a bit too close for me, so now I use something like 70. I think it's down to trying it out and personal preference.

Srsly man, speak for yourself. :x

Edit: I hate this part of the state. People are such fucking deadbeats here. I just called around every GameStop within 25 miles and none of them are doing a midnight release for *anything* tonight (DJ Hero, Tekken 6, or Forza 3). Seeing as the sole deciding factor in whether or not they do a midnight release is the amount of preorders, I will now go on a murderous crusade, killing everyone in this area who plays shitty games and ignores great ones like FM3.

I broke down and decided to upgrade my normal preorder to a LCE, went in today, the guy said he could get me one but it won't be in until Thursday. Apparently he called around and there's not one extra CE in any store within 20 miles of here. Now I'm wondering ho likely it would be that I'd be able to find somewhere to rent it for 2 days.

Also being lame I didn't notice the preorder car thing until today, so hopefully they'll still take my email and give me the cars. Though that's not as big of a deal as it's just paint jobs anyway.

Just sold two cars I gave quick paintjobs for profit. Nice! I'm glad to see the back of my Camaro SS.

The Exige around Amalfi is great fun!
I tried a couple of R3 cars on Saturday and found them quite tough to drive, particularly in keeping traction when accelerating hard. It's more noticeable because in general I found all the R cars quite easy to drive in FM2. Haven't braved R1 yet.

Glad to hear someone's enjoying Amalfi. It's been a real headache for me so far, but then I haven't taken anything small and nippy like the Exige around it yet, so maybe that's the problem.

People friended to PAForza3 should keep an eye out for me in about 3 hours, as I'm hoping to finally brave the multiplayer. GT is ChrisMcDee and go easy on me...
