The Fiat 500 is a really nice car. Considering throwing a pile of credits at it and seeing how high I can get its PI while it's still drivable.
I'm going to go into the multiplayer, for real this time, in about three hours' time. Hopefully now we have it on both sides of the Atlantic we'll be able to get a game going. I'm intrigued by some of the sillier gametypes available. I think my RS200 is made for tag on Benchmark Layout A.
So the livery editor is as addictive as ever. I spent quite a lot of time making an Orange amps logo which I'm rather proud of. It is made of 108 primitive vinyls. Unfortunately, the photo exportor doesn't seem to be online yet so all I have is crappy phone pics of my handiwork. I just it on any old car in my garage for now, I'll be making a full Orange amp themed car at some point.
This coincides nicely with the fact that I just read the NeoGAF livery thread and discovered someone had gone through the effort of making a Boris logo.
So we need some sort of Top Gear challenges in the future, as people have suggested before. My suggestion:
The Great American Budget Challenge
Each competitor has 12,000CR to spend on a car of their choice, which must fit the following restrictions.
- The car must be bought new from the car store.
- The car must be from an American manufacturer.
- The car may be painted, tuned and upgraded in any way as long as its value does not exceed 12,000CR.
Three contests will follow.
Escaping from Tyranny Test
Silverstone Circuit, England. The American cars will start with only a few seconds head start over a high-spec imperial oppression vehicle (Lotus Exige). The last car to be overtaken by this monarch-loving limeymobile will earn themselves three points.
The Saving Europe's Asses Test
Le Mans is under attack from an axis of evil supercars. While the American cars try and complete two laps of this historic course Porsches, Audis, Ferraris and Lamborghinis will be travelling in the opposite direction, piloted by conscripted drivers. The first car to make it across the line earns three points, the second receives two and the third receives one.
A short break for banter.
The Bashing Japan Test
The cars will line up on Laguna Seca as a well-engineered and efficient Toyota Yaris S glides away from them. After a ten second head-start the chase begins and the first car to hit the Yaris wins. Going around the track backwards is thoroughly forbidden. The winner receives three points.
The Turning Left Test
The cars will race five laps of the Sedona Speedway Oval as the final contest. The winner receives five points, second place receives three and third receives one.
In case of any disputes the referee's decision is final and unquestionable. Noone said this would be fair. The tests would be simple enough to run but not sure if you can check the car value of other people's cars without gifting them to the "referee" and then back. Of course the honour system would be the ideal way of doing things.
To truly emulate Top Gear, you have to have ridiculous penalties for failure.
Like in the first one, you should get some idea how long it would take an Exige to pass the American cars. Then you round up to the next full lap, and penalize points for every second of that lap that the Exige is in front of you.. something like that.

Sorry to those of you dudes who sent me game invites today. I was completely engrossed in the vinyl editor. That, and as I said in a previous post, I really won't be getting into multiplayer for at least a few days when I've gotten some decent time put into the career mode. For tonight, I'll be busting my ass on my vinyl scheme I'm working on. I'm really happy with it so far, and I can't wait to upload pics of the finished product. I think it's looking damn good for a first attempt.
Edit: Also, do we have anyone on here who's like...really good with the livery editor? If so, I will basically let you name your own price (in-game credits, of course ) for a couple of Patriots logos. Seen here:
maaan... I'm so freakin' slammed at work that I dunno that I can make it to gamestop today to get my preorder... or play at all this week for that matter...
Enable multi-screen view, and leave it on even though you only have one 360. Slide the bottom slider to the right for a wider field of view. I'm playing with mine all the way over to 90 degrees. It doesn't create some weird fish-eye monstrosity -- it just looks like you have your seat really far back, or you're in the back seat looking over the driver's shoulder.

Same here. No way do I want to go online with a stock vehicle.
Woohoo, it came in the mail today! I don't want to get too into it yet, though, because I'm worried that my save won't transfer properly to my new hard drive (which should arrive tomorrow).
Also, I have to say, while the '73 Pontiac Trans Am is certainly the awesomest car in the game, it does tend to go around corners like a goddamn boat. Well, that's not fair; I've seen many boats more agile, actually.
I am finally starting to get the hang of this wheel. I am nowhere near as good as I am with the controller but I can complete races without putting myself into the wall at every turn at least. I tried a hotlap with an R1 car on the ring and it was quite a workout.

So earlier I was talking about my first attempt with the vinyl editor. I've still got a long way to go until the final product, but I figured I'd slap the parts I'd already finished onto my starter car and take some pictures.
The logo and the text took me a total of around four hours to complete. I'm sure if I attempted it again, it would take much less time seeing as I've now got a bit of a feel for this thing. As a final version, I'm planning to do a full-on vista from the game, including the main character in some form. These are simply to show off the simple (yet modestly attractive, if I can give myself a bit of credit) livery I came up with to start. I've since sold the car, but all the logos (Mirror's Edge logo, text, DICE, and EA) are available on my storefront.
Edit: As you can probably tell, I was trying to emulate the game's packaging. It's definitely a learning experience. With the DICE and EA logos, I fucked around with gradients for the first time since the Forza series existed, and I'm pretty happy with the results, simple as they may be. It doesn't show up at all in the pictures, but you can get a better view on the storefront, if you care enough.
I won the E class championship using the Fiat Abarth 500 esseesse. Now let us never speak of it again.
On another note: AWD DRIVETRAIN SWAP PORSCHE 914/6. This car is gonna serve me well, I think.
I used the Alfa Romeo Brera, which proved to be quite the sexy little ass-kicking machine. I sold that Fiat as soon as I laid eyes on it. It actually hurt to look at that thing. I mean, come on...Fiat can do so much better than that. Give me the 124 Spider or the X1/9 anyday.

They really should somehow flag potential reward cars so you don't accidently buy them, maybe have them locked or something until you hit that driver level. I was saving up money for an
M5
and just happened to hit the appropriate level before getting it, if I had wasted 100k credits I would have been annoyed.

I really didn't want to but eventualy I yielded and skimmed over the gift car list to check for any big names I would have bought. There were one or two that I now won't bother spending money on. If it's any consolation after a certain level it's mostly racing class cars, which I know I don't tend to buy much myself.
Finally got my copy from Newegg. The case was a little crunched on the bottom, which broker one of the hinges holding the second disc. Annoying, but not annoying enough to send it back.
Quick question to the experts: Is there any place in the game where I can just pan around the interiors of the cars to look at them?

I need a break from the career grind, slaughtering AI cars for 4 lap races is weak.

There is one of Sonic and Tails standing in front of the Sega logo that is 100% spot on perfect. It looks like something Sega released themselves.

With some tuning, practice, and a proper rolling start I think I can shave a good minute off that.
Edit: And apparently something is bugged on the leaderboards because it's showing up as an Audi S5?
