Pfft, you druids get all the breaks. Back in my day, paladins have one attack and we liked it. Uphill and downhill, in the rain, snow, and fire. Both ways too! Barefoot, without feet!

This post was doing real well until the entitlement issues came out.
They did the same thing last expansion with the Quel'Danas badge vendor. I bought zero of the gear. Why? Because what would I use it on? 10 mans and heroics. So I could get more gear for those same 10mans and heroics. There's no fucking point to getting good loot if you have nothing to use it on. You're doing the content. THAT is your reward. Fun. Challenge. Remember that? Or are you too busy going flaccid because the numbers gap is narrowing?
The point of this change is so alts and new players can gear easily and not bore their guild/raid doing braindead Naxx runs. Once we get a real progression path charted, the danger is in losing members to burn out or life issues. If key members are lost, the whole raid has to stall out while you make sure your new healers and tanks have enough gear not to suck.
If anything, you should feel pity for the kind of warped mentality that takes pleasure in doing heroics over and over again, but with better loot.
The old badge vendor didn't give out equipment nearly to this extreme before -- and Blizzard stated back then that it was a mistake and that's why we had the tiered emblem system for Wrath in the first place...
The solution should be to provide scrub-difficulty versions of the earlier dungeons -- not reward people for running their 300th Utgarde Keep run and skip straight to Coliseum. (Which is what the majority will do)
And you can't tell me that the 25man Normal mode of Coliseum dropping 245/252 gear won't drop a lot more equipment and far easier bosses than 25man Ulduar's back end for the wonderful 1 piece of healing leather that drops every week.

Sorry, but forming up to start running the race when you are permanently behind is not only boring, but it's demoralizing and basically a death sentence to any guild that didn't start raiding immediately after xpac release. In short, playing catch up is the worst thing in the game.
And it's not the same as the badge vendor in BC. The badge tiers are still progressing, this just allows new players and alts to spend less time working up to the current level of content.

You honestly think 2-3 months is "demoralizing and permanently behind"? Ulduar drops a baseline of 226 gear with 232 weapons and the tiny handful of hard mode 239 drops. Coliseum is a baseline of 232, with most 245. You can easily gear up from fresh L80 to Ulduar10 in a month. Quit being lazy and expecting handouts for NOT playing the game. *boggle*
I hit 80 on my druid and was more geared then my warrior main in literally 2 weeks. I got the epic cheev on my druid, my warrior still doesn't have it.
Several kinds of a bitch and a half to farm for. Ugh.
Indeed. And then I go to Dalaran and see some scrub riding around on MY turtle mount. Damn scrubs are just ruining the game for everyone.
Seriously though, all sarcasm aside, that stupid turtle just won't drop. I've had the worst luck with the giant sewer rat pet too....but apparently I'm a good luck charm for others fishing for it.

The majority with not do that. Most people are probably just starting Ulduar. Conquest merely gives the Ulduar normal mode gear, so they'd get pretty thrashed if they suck that badly.
Coliseum WILL drop drop better gear, but if your fucking tank doesn't have the gear to kill the boss then you ain't getting shit, now are you? There's still progression here.
So, my wife and I used to run the nursery in our church for a couple years.
Most of the kids were pretty good, pretty well behaved; though clearly at varying degrees of development.
Well, there was this one boy who, every week, would get this Spiderman toy out of the cabinet and he thought he was the shit because he had it. He'd regularly go shove it in every other kids face just to let them know that he had the Spiderman and that it was the best toy.
While it was pretty annoying it wasn't that big of a deal. Most of the other kids didn't really care and barely gave him any notice and went about playing with their toys.
Well, one day, another boy found a Spiderman toy of his own. It wasn't the same one but it was almost identical. The first kid, while still having his Spiderman, was furious. He couldn't handle it. Tossing his toy aside he went for the other boy to take away his newfound toy. The first boy didn't even want the new toy, he just didn't want the other boy to have it.
The end result was one crying kid because he had his new toy angrily taken from him, and one angry boy who didn't want any Spiderman now because the whole thing was ruined, since his Spiderman was no longer unique or special.
The sad thing is that his toy was never unique or special. And the other kid finding another Spiderman didn't alter or diminish the Spiderman the first kid had. But the simple fact that he had one made the first boy so angry that he wasn't a unique snowflake anymore that everyone walked away unhappy.
The real problem wasn't that the second kid found a Spiderman, it was that the first kid was a spoiled brat who, instead of simply enjoying what he had, couldn't bear the idea that someone else might have something he also had. Also he probably had terrible parents.
Its not the same as the BC badge vendor because he sold some items that were literally as good and better than some classes could get in SWP itself. This is giving a limited amount of gear that helps close the gap enough to not need Naxx and Uld10. Still might need Uld25 to be sure though. But hey, at least these items mean you CAN play Uld25 faster.
*Blah grumble foam-at-mouth* The ones that claim I have "no life" and that's why I'm able to have full Uld25 gear and do hard modes. (Yet I'm in a guild that raids 3 nights a week, 15hrs total)
That say it's impossible to gear up a character on your own, so that's why they need handouts of ilvl 245 equipment from Heroics that drop ilvl 187. Yet I leveled up my Warrior alt 2 months ago and completely without guild backing, I did Heroic and Naxx pugs and went from fresh L80 to full Naxx25 equipment in 1 month.
*Spasm Graaah look at my e-peen and weep! Twitch*
Sounds like you didn't have much of a life if you can do all of that at the same time.
Let me break it down for you; If people ('scrubs') really are that bad, then as you said, all the gear won't mean shit. This means they'll ALWAYS be behind you. They'll be trying to figure out how the hell you beat TWO MOTHERFUCKING JORMUNGAR WYRMS! AT THE SAME TIME! long after you're done and waiting for Icecrown.
I on the other hand? I'll be running heroics to get to that gear level so i can at least try out the place since my job has shitty hours.
Unless i get made redundant by Christmas which today i just learnt could happen... :?
EDIT: Holy shit-balls The Dude, you just nailed the whole thing perfectly.
15 hours a week is nearing part-time job status, definitely closer to hardcore than casual. The people I raid with do 8 hours max a week, 4 hours split over two nights (and sometimes only once a week for 4 hours).
My favorite back-in-the-day moment was when I "accidentally" pulled the two entrance molten giants with my Eye of Kilrogg after sitting around for an hour waiting for the rest of the raid to muster, then come back from yet another afk/smokebreak.

Dont forget summoning all 37 of your lazy lazy raider guild mates.
Back in my day, the most important button in a Hunter's rotation was tab.
Somethings are never forgotten, just merely repressed.
Whapow!
edit: This.
My only job during a raid was to buff people.
blizz has ruined wow
I can't hear you over spamming Healing Touch Rank 4 ad infinitum.
Lies. Mages never decurse.
On my hunter.
For 31 talent points.
Because we needed a melee DoT, right?!
Pins!

Raid Leader "Mages, fucking help the druids decurse or sapph's curse will kill us all and heal him."
Mages: "but that means we'll do less dps."
Oh man, it's been years but the blood still flows to my forehead.

Fixed.
Also, The midsummer "fly around and click on fires" bullshit is bullshit. It's the quintessential "yeah, we're just trying to fill time" WoW event.
On the turtle: I spent 40 minutes on that turtle yesterday, only to find failure. I hate you turtle.

I once got booted from a raid for accidentally serpent stinging, fucking limited debuff slots.
Next to a polymorphed mob.
And critting it.
While having the Deep Wounds talent.
Oops.

The best part is that lacerate did like 18 dps and didn't scale in any way.
I remember to put away the fucking cat on Rags because he would do DIE INSECT and you would hear the dying meow over and over again for weeks on end
