The best part about that preview is that Frank Tieri put three of the crappy villains he created on his run on Wolverine alongside guys like Apocalypse, Mystique, and Sabretooth. Because when I think of great Wolverine villains, I think of Mr. X and that weird French cannibal guy whose eye kept falling out. Fucking Tieri, man. I guarantee Shiver Man shows up somehow in the series, too.

Daken's in the back there, too.

I always hate ludicrous stories where the only thing that can unite some villains is there hate for one individual.

I really, really doubt that that shit is real. He is almost definitely having some kind of hallucination/dream/illusion/whatever being done to him. Given it's Wolverine Vs. Thor, I'd assume either Loki or Enchantress is doing it to him to trick him into fighting Thor.

Yeah, but Wolverine cannot fight Thor. Thor is the only thing that around that can bend adamantimum. Wolverine would have all of his bones bent before he could even scratch at Thor with those damn claws.

Yeah, I'm sure it's a spell or a nightmare or something, but I just find it hilarious that Tieri's trying to play up his D-list villains as being in the same league as the others in that art.

And yeah, a Wolverine vs Thor fight would last a few seconds before Thor melts Wolverine or tears him apart.

Doesn't Mjolnir have this huge chunk missing from it these days?

I'm wondering if Tieri is gonna create massive amounts of bs fiction for the fight revolving around that

Like so much steaming poop, I choose to ignore that this wolvie vs THOR fight even exsists and keep right on walking.

Such a waste of paper and ink. Sad really. Unless Thor kills wolverine in one page. Then I'll buy five copies.

This seems to be the right thread to post this (correct me if I'm wrong), but....

I'm an infrequent comic book reader that tends to grab a collection when I want to read something, and I generally eschew individual issues. In my collection are things like the 4 Absolute Sandmans, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen books, and the Joss Whedon X-Men books (the...Astonishing X-Men?).

My question revolves around Runaways, which is the one super-hero type comic I really enjoyed. I bought (HC) books 1, 2, and 3, as well as the Dead End Kids. While perusing at a local bookstore, I noticed there are two more that I had not noticed: Rock Zombies and Dead Wrong. Reading the flap seems to say that these follow the four books I already have.

So...are these any good? Compared the other ones? Do I have the ordering right? What is the general consensus on these? I'm really bad at following "volumes" and collections to know what's what.

It was the first 9 issues done by Terry Moore, whose claim to fame is Strangers in Paradise. They might have thrown in the Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers stuff too, which was just filler really.

I liked Moore's Runaways, as he was trying to make the team grow up a bit, and realize they might have to put some of their notions of being the superhero outsiders on the shelf and just do normal things, like getting a job to pay for food and making sure Molly and Klara turn into proper functioning adults.

I greatly disliked Moore's Runaways. The art was jarring, and it didn't have the same feel to the book at all. He was also kind of annoying with Xavin.

    It's generally seen that BKV's Runaways > Whedon's Runaways > Moore's Runaways > Immonen's Runaways.

It gets worse and worse, is what I'm saying. It's kind of sad, really, because the Runaways, individually and as a team, have so much potential that just keeps getting ruined (Even BKV wasn't innocent here, the way he retconned Chase's past)

If Whedon had focused less on the past-time characters and more on the Runaways, hadn't been delayed, and had done the subsequent arc (to follow up on the stuff he was going to do with Nico), I think it would border on my favorite. The delaying thing is my least worry, though.

Reading it as a trade, I really enjoyed Whedon's run.

To answer the specific question, the reading order is:

BKV's three Hardcovers -> Dead End Kids -> Dead Wrong -> Rock Zombies

After that will come the books by Kathryn Immonen, but I don't believe there are any trades out yet.

Well, actually, you misunderstand me. I don't mind the story focusing on Lily at all, since that was a part of their impetus to go into the past in the first place. I think the rest were fluff, however. We didn't even need to know the goddamn names of all the superfluous people at the end to still have the cool moment where Nico stops the fight.

Ugh. Thinking about it makes me sad on how cool Nico was, and how she was a bit darker after talking to her past relative. That could have gone somewhere. I mean, goddamn, the show must go on.

She was a mediocre character that could have been expanded upon, and if she had gone to the future they would have just given her the power to fly without the weird stuff, I'm sure.

They would've given her an iPod.

Anyway, I liked all those old-school superhumans. I wish there was a series dedicated to that era.

And then Kathyrn Immonen comes on board and Lily's all "Blargh I hate you all hey Karolina let's make out oh wow I'm actually an alcoholic who killed an old woman trying to get on the last boat from Ireland"

And then Old Lace still dies for shock value, and I cry.

Old Lace's death was so ignominious that I still can't accept that it even happened.

And as long as I don't read the rest of Immonen's arc, it'll be like it never happened.

I'm going to back to eyeballing the copy of League of Extraordinary Gentleman Century 1910 or whatever and decide if I really want to start reading it.

Either that or I'll make attempt #11teen at deciphering the X-men thread on which ones are worth reading.

Off the bat, I'd recommend the more recent X-Factor relaunch (starts with Madrox: Multiple Choice), Grant Morisson's New X-Men, Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, or X-Men: First Class or Wolverine: First Class.

I tried to get through that MASSIVE x-men thread, but it was an exercise in futility when I largely stick to trade books to get my comic fix. Sometimes deciphering which series is which book by which authors is mind-numbing.

That said, I enjoyed Whedon's Astonishing X-Men as well as House of M.

So Paul Levitz resigned as publisher and president of DC comics. DC's now DC Entertainment, which is going to be more of a Marvel entertainment or whatever they're called style of things, where the comics and movies and cartoons are all really under the same roof. And they're all under the big Warner Bros. banner as well, but this way, movies and comics and games are all in the same house, I guess. Seems like a good move for them.

Levitz is going to be a writer, editor and a consultant to the DC Entertainment thing, apparently.

I like how DC times their announcements to trip up Marvel recently, like the Cap #600 stuff not being as big of a deal as Wednesday Comics being in USA Today, or the DC Entertainment news taking away from whatever Quesada is going to talk about later today.
