Considering Cap Reborn beat out DC's Blackest Night and Wednesday Comics bombed, as far as sales go (although DC thinks it's overperforming in the 50-60 and falling range of sales), I'd say DC isnt doing a very good job tripping up Marvel and actually hurting themselves by trying to one up them / coming out firing after the fact, if indeed, they are doing that.
Hard to say how strong Reborn will continue to be sales wise, and Blackest Night for that matter. Both stories are currently very unpredictable and could go anywhere. Reborn might have an advantage since it's only 5 issues compared to BN's 8.
I just checked the early sales figures for August and Blackest Night #2 beat out Cap Reborn for the number one spot. Ultimate Comics Avengers placed fifth but oddly UCSM didn't place in the top 10 although New Avengers did. Both Utopia issues placed in the top ten as well along with Green Lantern and Batman and Robin.
So it looks like Geoff Johns, Ed Brubaker, Mark Millar, Brian Bendis, Grant Morrison and Matt Fraction are the current top writers. Pretty good list I must say.

I'd wager the dollar increase didn't help with the orders for UCSM #1, and that a brand new series that is 99% released like clockwork is also a good point to wait for the trade.
I've only read his two issue Darkhawk story leading up to War of Kings and I thought it was allright, nothing mindblowing but it did it's job introducing me to the character.
Well if you liked the plot for Marvel Ultimate Alliance, he did that!
Did it even really have a plot?
It was probably the most standard "hey all superhero guys get together and fight everyone" plot I'd ever really seen, but I only got around two-thirds of the way through.
That's probably why I'm excited for MUA2. An actual plot.
Regarding that Top Shelf list the only thing I might be interested in is the From Hell softcover since I haven't read it yet. But I think they could bump the price down more than 5 bucks.

Yes, it had a plot. Was it a good plot? Eh, that's debatable. But it definitely had one, and you don't really get into the meat of what the villains had planned until the last few missions.
I think it suffered from being such a long game, far longer than the plot could sustain interest. It would have been a better game if it had been shorter, and hopefully they've learnt their lesson for MUA2.

I agree about the length. I "quit" the game somewhere around the Asgard levels, resorting ot just using a cheat to unlock all the characters/costumes and jack up all my powers. It was just the level designs were so long and boring.

The same was the case with X-Men Legends 2.
My friend and I got X-Men Legends 2 when it hit the $20 point. We popped it in, and as soon as we saw that the first level was just a really bland cavernous area with giant spiders, he took it out of his gamecube, and traded it in to gamestop.
So, yeah. There's a lot riding on this one, to me at least.

The first X-Men Legends was the only one of those games whose story I actually enjoyed. Magneto is doing some shit, you try to stop him - it's basic but at least it's not risible. And then to add variety they gave you the option to do flashbacks to classic fights against Juggernaut and the Sentinels and so forth. And it took place in mostly actual recognizable places for the X-Men to be fighting, like on the streets of NYC, or the X-Mansion, or Asteroid M.
M:UA felt so immensely generic. Every character had a similar suite of attacks (an AoE, a melee, a buff) and with the notable exceptions of the Helicarrier and the Skrull planet it all took place in very...videogamey locales. Caves and random high-tech bases and so on. Asgard was okay, when it felt like Asgard and not a generic ice world, and I should give credit to Murderworld, but Murderworld bears the dubious distinction of being the most overused Marvel locale in videogames ever, probably because it's so goddamn videogamey to begin with.
Everyone seemed to hate it when it came out, but my friend and I actually immensely preferred Justice League Heroes.

A) Murderworld has been in 3 Marvel video games - the X-Mansion, NYC, Latveria, and even the Hellicarrier have all been in more games. It's hardly the most overused Marvel locale in video games ever.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance was better than that Justice League Heroes, and your mom.
the ratio of number of times Murderworld has been used in video games to the frequency in which it is used in the comics is significantly higher than the other locales that you've mentioned.
That is a really stupid argument, guys. Who the hell cares?
Where does everyone get their comic news? I am becoming a big fan of Bleeding Cool. Newsarama seems pretty much worthless to me at this point. CBR is still kind of good though, I think. Good for previews at least. Sometimes. Lots of times the images are blurry or pixelated to hell and back for some reason.

Newsarama is dead now. When I go there once a week now, I gauge it by the posts from long time members who have disappeared. There was one guy there, Vinnie Bartillucci, who was always a longtime, good poster at Newsarama, who is now at Bleeding Cool. That's how bad it's gotten.
CBR, still can't get behind their interviews and stuff, but they get a lot of previews nowadays and Robot 6 is good.
I like Bleeding Cool not because of the rumors but that Rich does a good job doing a "what they said 6 months ago, what they said today" kind of thing, like Bendis on the USM price increase. He also has all the twitter and off the radar stuff covered. No one else seemed to have covered that Chris Allo was let go from Marvel, for instance.

I read newsarama out of habit. It was the first comic news site I started reading.
I read Bleeding Cool occasionally, but there's a 1:1 ratio of things that I think are insightful or probably and things that I think are just way off base or just overworked bitching.
I never read CBR. It's a very long URL to type out in the library or the web lab. I'm very lazy, you see.
I also read DC's blog on a daily basis.

Justice League Heroes had exactly one fun part for me. If you flew slowly enough as Martian Manhunter, his "flying now zoooom" pose wouldn't kick in and it looked like he was just hovering forward with his arms crossed. It was hilariously intimidating (if that makes any sense) to just float through early levels, an indomitable, eternally disappointed-looking turtle of justice.
There was a part in JL:H where the difficulty ramped up and just kicked our asses.
I think it had something to do with OA? Or forcefields? And parasitic blobs? In a dungeon?
And then X-Men Legends 1 had the story elements I wanted, but still totally wrecked us when we got to the submarine and hadn't leveled anyone with the powers we needed to finish off the mission.
Don't forget her best role: Foxy on Drawn Together.
Say what you will about that show, but the uncensored final episode of season 1 was the funniest thing I'd seen that year, especially hearing all the nasty shit come out of Cree's mouth via Foxy.

And I don't think Cap Reborn will hold onto the #1 spot in future months compared to BN.

In other news, Chris Allo, Marve'ls editorial talent coordinator is gone at Marvel, and Cebulski is asked to be on full-time

I know I enjoyed them to an extent, I just definitely lack the memory.
The only thing I remember is the first cutscene to X-Men Legends 2 and bein' all heyyyyyy magnetoooo that's cool.
And I read on Wikipedia they tried to incorporate her being whatever-her-name-was in there, and then retconned it?
Also Susie.
