As a current 3g owner, I am most looking forward to ATT getting their shit together and offering me a $20/month capped data plan. I don't think I've ever used more than 250mb in a month since I've owned the thing.
For seriously, dude. I check my numbers every time I pay my bill and I don't think I've ever used more than 300 MB in one month. I wonder what the average is for all US iPhone owners.
Question 1: I know Apple starts selling their new products through the website on day 1 of announcement, and they are all up now. But would an Apple store be carrying the new Macbooks and Pros? If not, when do they usually get them?
Question 2: I plan on getting either a 13" White Macbook, or a 13" Macbook Pro. After student discount, regular Macbook is $950, and Macbook Pro is $1100. I will get a free iPod Touch, and printer with either purchase (which I'll be selling). Is the extra $150 worth it for the unibody case, SD card slot, increased battery life, slight CPU boost, and DDR3 ram? I'm thinking it is... but don't know the kinds of performance gains DDR3 has over DDR2.
Also, i already have extra RAM for the white Macbook, so I'd have to buy more for the Pro since it's different.
$99 iphone makes a great headline, but from my experience people are more worried about the monthly bill than the price of the phone itself. $99 + $85 a month (or whatever) is still expensive.
Also, the pricing of the iPod touch ($230+) and iPod classic ($250) make no sense to me now.

Same here but it's all going to change on the 17th with the new tethering... So pumped.

This is because of the fact that the cell companies give you the discount when you buy a plan along with the phone. The actual phones still cost $400-$600.

I'd go with the 13" Pro. That Al uni-body is a very, very nice piece of engineering. It makes for a much more "solid" feeling laptop. So, between that and the other "extras" (+battery, +cpu, +ram speed) I would certainly go for the 13" Pro.
Also, illuminated keyboard. Pro it is, the extras definitely justify the small price increase. I was leaning in that direction, and it only took a couple minutes for me to make up my mind.
So, when can I expect these machines to be in the Apple stores? I would love to pick one up today after work.

the ipod touch is the red-headed stepchild of the apple family, we all know that
as for the ipod classic, the big draw there is space, and lots of it

In Feb '08 I bought a white Macbook, and 2 weeks later they quietly announced hardware updates on a Tuesday morning. The new hardware was in the store that day. I called in the morning and was told that the new stuff should be in after their morning shipment from UPS.
FFFUCK. Macbook Pros won't be in the local Apple Store until the 10th. It was torture waiting for this keynote when I was ready to buy the white Macbook, though I'm really glad I waited. Now I have to wait again for the Pro. Ugh.

3gs: loads apps faster, has a 3mp camera with video and auto focusing. supports opencl for better gaming.
3g 8gig dropped to 99$
Right. So I'll be picking up a 3g one on the cheap then. Seems like a good deal.
Still, I guess it means I'm stuck with O2 here in the UK.
It loads aps faster because it has a faster processor. And it has faster upstream and downstream on web browsing on the mobile network ( normal browsing is 2x as fast as 3g, and can be up to 3x as fast).

Definitely going with the 3GS instead of the Pre now. Sorry Palm.
The only thing I don't like about the tracker is that 99% of the time when I lose my phone I lose it in my own goddamn house. But at least you can have it play a sound, that will be helpful!
Really, if you dont have an iphone get the 3G 8gig. Good deal on that and 3.0 OS will add a ton of good features. If you already have a 3G and you really really want video, new camera and faster processor , get the 3GS.
So does anyone know if iPhoto 09 will come with Snow Leopard? I want that face recognition software...
iLife is a SEPARATE Product from the OS. I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand. No, iPhoto 09 will not be included with Snow Leopard.

... or at least it was for me and my girlfriend. It was through her college so it may have been part of a special program.
It was only a free upgrade if you bought a computer with iLife 06 like a month before 08 came out, or something like that. iLife upgrades have NEVER been free.

EDIT: And sorry for the double post.

So these should be in stores right now.
I believe iPhoto is part of iLife suite which, while being included on new Macs, is not part of OS updates.
I have a really old one and have been looking to upgrade.

You are looking at about 55-80$ depending on your text plan+taxes

over the phone support tech
Really going to get a lot of angry calls
iPod touches won't be updated until September, most likely. You might have to pay $10 to get the upgrade to 3.0, though.
