The JustinSane07-Touches-Little-Boys Memorial Webcomics Thread

joedonbakerjoedonbaker Registered User new member
edited July 2009 in Debate and/or Discourse
I listened to the live stream today and was curious why Kurtz and Gabe hate Tim Buckley so much. I remember there was a WoW feud involving the CAD and PA guilds but outside of that I've never seen any mention of him. Also I was curious if that "hatred", if you will, extended to Tim's group of friends, mainly Brian Clevinger. I never enjoyed CAD and hadn't actually heard of it until I saw mention of it on Nuklear Power once, but it just seems weird to me that such a small web comic would even be on Gabe and Tycho's radar.

mod edit: This thread is now for talking about webcomics. No discussion of Tim Buckley, or I will miscarry you and then show your penis to an 8-year-old. Or something.

So I just looked at today's comic to see if CAD Rule still applies

    Yeah, it does.

Also someone photoshop Lilah into an underage woman for an accurate depiction of Mr. Buckley.

Iunno. Sometimes I look at Idiot Comics. They had a comic about the milk going bad where the dude just smells the milk and gives a weird look. Not all webcomics are meant to be funny.

The fued in WoW was between PA and PvP Online, as a friendly sort of thing. Buckley rolled on the server to get involved for whatever reason and threw a shitfit at his guild and disbanded it (but they reformed).

He showed his penis to an underage girl.

He threatened legal action against a fan who made a video project for school honoring CAD.

    He sucks at making comics.

It wasn't the one above where it cuts to the "It has been 0 Days since we last killed a baby" one?

Most of the edits are on the EncyclopediaDramatica page for CAD as well.

No, it had panels from the PA strip from when Tycho was trying to school Gabe on how to DM, but the premise was that Gabe had tried to get prank revenge on Buckley and ended up killing the baby.

I don't think it's a site per se, just that the CAD Rule is "remove panels 2 and 3, and the dialogue from panel 4"

Edit - Wait, there's a site that does this automatically?

I'd much rather have a late good comic than a constantly on time bad one. I don't need Buckley to regularly waste my time, I can do it just fine on my own.

There was a site called cadsucks dot com that edited or parodied CAD strips to make them, you know, funny.

Buckley shut it down though, so it's not there anymore. I remember this conversion being one of my favorites, and have recreated for those purposes.

    Original comic:

How can someone not think that's funnier? The original is just stupidly heavy handed while the latter is beautifully minimalist and hilarious.

Though, really, the major problem is the guy's extreme level of unjustifiable narcissism.

Tycho would describe it as "guilding the lily" or whatever that phrase is. The one-frame, no words comic is WAY funnier.

I think the incident was he sent a picture of his wang to a forum member, who then said they were an under-aged girl. I'm not sure where it went after that. I also heard that he had fits of tyrannical moderation, booting people, deleting threads, y'know, all the lame shit that makes a forum suck.

As for the general hate, there's the copy paste art, occasionally atrocious writing and comic timing like in the bomberman comic, and blatant theft of material from other comics. Also, if you're going to steal a joke, you should probably not do so ten years after it stopped being funny in the first place.

Problem is, as usual, what is "good" is subjective. I don't find everyone one of his comics funny, but I'd be lying if I said PA is always funny either.

Nor am I saying CAD is better. I just don't understand all this useless hate. But hey, if people want to hate for the sake of hating, let them be haters. It could just be that I'm really uninformed and apathetic, but then again, it's a webcomic, not the United State Supreme Court.
