According to a podcast talking to the devs on the game, there's 3000 hidden items to find. THREE. THOUSAND. Apparently they all have a use too like armor upgrades, vehicle upgrades and stuff that alters things around the island.
    Also
    3000

    That is INSANE.

The people that make item guides and maps will have a hard time with this one.

Pretty much. The first had a lot of collectibles but they were completely disconnected from the actual game, served absolutely no purpose other than to get the achievements. So this time round the devs feel that they want to do it right. Actually have the collectibles affect gameplay, as well as the world around you. Personally, I can't wait to see what they pull off. From everything I've read and seen, it looks like they're really pushing the boundaries with this and it could make a big impact on the industry in terms of content within games.

    It could also tank.

I just hope it's more along the lines of "Hey, you found a pistol silencer, now you can strap it onto one of your guns in whatever hideyhole you might have!", and not "Hey, you found 10 bobbins, have a silenced pistol!". I'd rather have a bunch of little tweaks than just a new thing every so many bobbins.

Simply being able to tether a moving vehicle to anything in the environment sold me on the game. It just CAN'T go wrong!

It was out on the 360 too, and looked pretty dapper too.

As for the items, I can't remember but I think it was more along the lines of each item being useful in it's own right. There may be instances where you need a few different items that can then be combined (most likely automatically) to make a new one but in general, they should be individuals.

edit: Here;''s the actual quote from Mike Oldman (studio press dude)
Armor parts, vehicle parts, cash... to name but a few.

There's a lot out there to find - and the best part is all of them are usable to upgrade and increase your awesome on the island.
C'mon, with a line like that you can't goose it up!

That's pretty cool. Though honestly at this point I feel fully satiated with all the Just Cause 2 media released lately. At this point I just want the game. I'm going to be sick of it before it comes out if they keep releasing awesome videos that I need to watch.

That is seriously one of the best trailers I've ever seen for a game. You lucky SOBs get to try out the demo. Damn me and my Live-less 360. Game cannot come out soon enough.

And I concur on the notion that this game needs more attention. I fear this will be passed by many simply because of the first (which I thought was incredible but I like sucky games apparently).

The first wasnt a bad game, it just suffered from being made for both old and new generation consoles and kind of lacking in content and polish. I always knew if there was a sequel it would be amazing because all these things would be fixed.

Also holy shit the night looks awesome
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNMrcRD0o1M&feature=related

Finally a night cycle in whcih I wont just be waiting for day to appear.

Also I love that the enemies have worse aim than storm troopers, it really suits the game.

It's becoming pretty standard that demos are released about a month after the game, so I'd figure around there.

I remember reading they planned to release a demo before the game came out. They did so with the first game and they do need as much publicity as they can get. Seriously quiet on the attention front.

A Square Enix employee is saying very soon and he keeps teasing about all the shit he's doing in it and posting screens from it. I doubt it will after the game comes out.

Funny, when he jumped out of the car, I expected the normal roll out common in games like this. Instead, he jumps onto the car and soars over an explosion.

    Good times.

That's exactly what gets me so excited for the game. The fact they're not even trying to include a reason for the stuff happening, it's just there because its really good fun.

So true. It's clear from the videos that there is a story with some depth, but they know that that's not the reason to play the game. The story is just there to tie everything together. We are going to that island to blow it up and look good doing it. Nothing more.
