ER 6i earbuds only play from one ear

So, I have a pair of ER 6i isolators that I love, and I've had them for probably two years or so. When I was on a plane trip, I saw that Seinfeld was on the TV, so I tried plugging them directly into the jack, curious if any audio would come out.

It's just current, albeit in a slightly different standard, so happily audio streamed through one ear. That makes sense, since the headphone jack on the plane uses two prongs, and I just plugged into one of them.

Afterwords, however, I discovered that there's really only sound in the right ear (the one that activated in the plane). The left ear is much more faint, enough so that I can only hear it if I take out the right earbud. This has been continuing for a few weeks now, and I've been using them in normal usage.

Any idea what's up or how to fix this?

switch earbuds with ears and rule out your ears being the problem.

i dunno.. you could have messed them up somehow on the plane..?

Maybe you blew the driver in the left ear?

This happened to me once and I fixed it by replacing the little filter they have. Mine came with a tool and an extra set of filters to change them with. if you need it you can get the filters and tool here: http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6-acc.aspx

This actually just happened to my earbuds a day ago. Going to try replacing the filter tonight. I have the exact same problem as you do, one side works perfect while the other has very very faint volume.

Just changed the filters (much easier than i expected), and it's working again. Hooray for my 6i's not being messed up. I was worried for a bit.
