So, I have exams coming up in the next few days, for a couple of weeks. Some of these are morning exams. The problem is, I can bearly manage to get up before 11am, and it takes a while for me to actually start "functioning". This is not good for my exams and for my study.

Now, I pretty damn sure this is due to my fucking atrocious diet. I didn't have this problem when I lived with my parents (moved out two years ago), and I didn't really have an issue with it until lately. But now it is crushing it is affecting everything.

So, I am looking for advice in throwing off this terrible sleeping pattern, and then low energy throughout the day. I think my diet is the main culprit, coupled with little exercise.

Recommend me some menus! And other things I can do!

Do you eat breakfast? Like, whole grain cereal or other complex carbs? Other people will say the same thing, but eating a good breakfast is really important for your health and energy level.

Are you sure it's all in your diet and not just your sleeping behavior?

I say this because I had a ton of problems getting good sleep over the semester, and functioning with low energy, and it really took its toll. I kept waking up in the early morning, hours before my alarm was set to go off. This, I found out, was mostly due to sinus and breathing problems, as well as acid reflux.

I stopped eating before bed, and started taking tums. I also bought a humidifier (I live in the arid desert), and got new sheets for comfort purposes and that all helped me immensely. I tried elevating the head of my bed a little, but that didn't do anything special for me.

Also, most people drink coffee in the morning or through out the day to keep them alert. I hate coffee, so I've never had the luxury, but I have started taking those energy shots that are becoming available, and they work pretty well in keeping me alert (though sometimes I need to drink 2).

As far as diet goes, eat cereal or eggs with juice in the morning, and what other healthy stuff is recommended.

I usually have breakfast in the morning. Weetbix. 4 "biscuits". I usually "crash" in energy levels around 4pm. But I'm never really awake throughout the whole day. Sometimes, very rarely, I have this lucid moments when I actually feel awake. I try to avoid things like energy drinks (I don't like coffee), but sometimes I need one to actually start functioning.

I should mention this was a rather sudden change in my behaviour. I used to be a morning person, up and about at 7:30. Once I moved out, I started getting up later but it was never a major drain to get up earlier at 7. Now, however, it is a mission to get myself up earlier than 10.

It would help to know more details.
What were you eating when this wasn't a problem, what are you eating now. What else has changed? What are your sleep patterns like?

Is you diet now different than how it was at your parents? How are you doing for eating fruits, vegetables, and protein? 4 Weetabix seems like a lot of carbs in the morning. Those biscuits are pretty gigantic as I remember from the one time I tried them in the UK. Maybe substitute half of those out for some fruits and protein in the morning. Or switch to a complex carb like oatmeal.

What are you sleep habits like? When are you going to bed and getting up? You should go to bed and get up at approximately the same time, no matter what your schedule is. Some other standard advice, use your bed only for sleep and sex, keep your room dark and to your preferred temperature, use ear plugs and eye shades if sound or noise is a problem.

Also, maybe talk to your doctor about it, it wouldn't hurt to get a check up and some blood work done, just to rule out stuff like thyroid problems or diabetes.
