...And it appears the interstellar market sucks like hell. I ended up using the System Trade area to burn off some of the excess cash my colony's population is generating instead. System Trades go at a rate of 5:1 (in the computer's favor), so I'll be saving the rest of my loot for trading with you guys, if anyone else gets their spaceports working.
Edit:
TheRoadVirus - You're going to need to work your way up to the Terraform building option, if you've run out of area to work with. You'll need Deep Core Mines and Hydroponic Farms on the planet in question.
...Has anyone noticed a 'Recycle' stat for any of their colonies when using the Colony Overview? I'm seeing some recycling percentages show up for my main colony, but not any of the others.
Ok so, someone help me understand this unless im reading this wrong it consumes (per level I assume) energy: 4 organic: 2 mineral: 5 monetary: 9 Population: 1 and only provides organic: 3 for a net of 1 production? Please tell me im missing something here.
"He who fights monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster...For when you gaze into the Abyss, the Abyss also gazes into you."
"Ónen i-Estel mellyn, ú-chebin estel anim"
Consumption is measured per level of the structure. Output is multiplied by the energy/organic/mineral/population stat of your planet. So if you have a 30/25/42/98 energy/organic/mineral/population planet and build an automated factory (consumes 6/2/2/5, outputs 0/2/2/1), it will output 0/50/84/98 per level.
The way Population seems to work is that you have your habitats and such which increase your maximum population, and then you have buildings which tend to 'consume' some of that population limit. So if I have a level five Hydroponics Farm, and it consumes one population per level, then that building adds a total of five people to my current population.
In other words, population is just like area, except that it is easier to raise its limit and works off a different stat.

Hey, when you get the next level of resource producers (Nuclear Power Plants, etc), does it make sense to merely ADD these to your collection of buildings, or REPLACE the old buildings with 'em?
I haven't run out of space yet, which is why I'm curious.
I don't think it's possible to take down old buildings yet. In any case, I think there's a point at which it makes sense to build power plants instead of nuclear plants.
Costs to Build
Structure lvl energy organic mineral money time to build
Power Plant 8 1026 1538 1538 769 2:13:00 s
Nuclear Plant 8 5126 6408 5126 7689 4:26:00 s
Consumption
Structure energy organic mineral money population
Power Plant 0 2 2 1 1
Nuclear Plant 2 2 6 10 1
Output
Structure energy organic mineral money population
Power Plant 2 0 0 0 0
Nuclear Plant 3 0 0 0 0
So for 50% more output, you're paying about 5-10X the resources. There might be some other factors that I'm not aware of in this analysis. It's all very opaque.
Yeah, you need a spaceport. You'll need a level 3 Global Franchise and some tech levels in Logistics (lvl 5) and Orbital Mechanics (lvl 2). ...Technically, we could probably trade resources using our own transport ships...but using the spaceport saves on time and fleet upkeep.

A new specie appeared in Universe 2 days ago ...
its technology is way to high for such young civilization
and unlike all other civilizations, their color is magenta
how do the "Ratoidz" posses such technological levels ?
where do they come form ?
what are their intentions ?
are they friendly ?
and what is gonna happen after the 35th day of the server ?

An invitation's already been sent, Reynolds. Try checking the Federations tab for it. All of us WANGers have high enough rank to recruit, so anyone who's online is able to send out the invite if you need a new one.
This is OT, but does anyone remember Galactic Conquest? Same type of browser 4X game, but there was a technology you could research that allowed you to make this incredibly powerful alien weapon that basically made you the most powerful player in the game, and when you got close to finishing it, the countdown was posted on the front page, and everybody worked together to take this player out - but he was immensely powerful and extremely hard to take down. Should the weapon be fired, the round ended and everything was reset (IIRC).
Just settled my second colony! Gonna pump up the resource-creation facilities on this planet like MAD before progressing on.
Also, there's ONE MORE PLANET in my star system to colonize, and I'ma try and get it before someone else nabs it.

Grabbed my 8th colony... it's a sweet energy producing Silica moon that's in the system 1 south of me. There's also a Ratoids on the moon one orbit out from me that I'm going to start slamming with fighters for some phat lewtz. Kinda wish I had explored more, because there's a Toxic moon one system over that's got 38 for energy... I'm gonna be all over that thing as soon as I finish producing my first Space Station... Braincow is right, building up to that is a major drain. (Two days tops.)

Just grabbed my third colony this morning, clearing out the local system. From here on out, I'll be probing relentlessly to make sure I pick really good planets to colonize. What should I be looking for, though? Really high, balanced numbers across the board, or single, super-high statistics? How important are population and area compared to the others?
If you're just building defensive ships, you'll just need a hull and armor, when you research up to that point. You don't really need to put life support or engines for ships for this purpose.
If you're planning on adding weapons, you'll need crew, which means you'll need a life support module (Requires : Shipyard level 3, Ecosystems level 1). You still don't need an engine if they're for defensive purposes, so you can stick a life support and weapon module on a probe.
But do certain ships require certain modules or is it up to me to figure out what I want to use?
I'm about to build a satellite along with my probe. What should I stick on it for maximum efficiency?

The only ships that require certain modules would be Colony ships require at least 1 colonization module (but more are pretty much wasted points, it's easier/cheaper to build once you get there, than to have additional buildings from the get go) and Cargo ships require Cargo Modules.
Also... they all need engines to move... and anything requiring manning (like recyclers, colonization, weapons, shields etc.) require habitats.

Ships don't really need anything. You can build empty hulls for all the game cares. The only caveat is that certain modules require crew to work, in which case you need at least a life support module.

I use my satellites for colonization. cheaper to build than shuttles, and they have just enough slots! life support, colonization, and an engine (or two if you wanna get there double fast)
Okay. I am in as Zach, Colony Asimov at Star (-19:15) - Planet (-19:15:82). I used Da Newb's link at #1734 (page 5), so here is my support link to keep the chain going.
I have joined as same user name, at planet -19:20:51. Let all tremble in fear before the WANG.

In other news, Braincow is making a leap to catch up with me... must. breed. faster.

This 'Ratoidz' account has 33 colonies scattered around, almost all of them undefended. I'm tempted to try raiding one, just to see what happens. :P
[Edit]
...Crap. We're only allowed to have six fleets? So much for my plan to scatter scout probes across the galaxy...
I'm in the fed so just look at the member list to find me.
It's a bot that takes over colonies of players that have been inactive for 35 days. There's a few comments about it in one of the fed boards.
And someone just asked the same question while I was typing. I posted my profile earlier...

We're starting to rub up against the big guys. They may just blow us off, but we will show them who's standing tall after we shoot them in the eye.
