I won't be buying another update unless they update the previous decks as well.
You can't be introducing shit like Platinum Angel into a game where there's few decks that actually have a means to deal with it.
It's tremendously lazy bullshit.
I haven't looked at every deck to check their counters, but you can also deal it 4 damage directly or use a card that destroys any creature. So I think possibilities are there in most decks, but still pretty uncommon.
My black deck is performing pretty well in this environment. Even against the U/W deck, forcing a lot of discards early on can put things in your favor.
Wish there was more discussion about this I could read up on. I think there's really a lot of depth for such a small game. Perfect to play MTG without having to play MTG.

For the original decks...
Deck: Answers (Unlockable Answers) - Notes if any
Claws of Vengeance: Naturalize, Blaze, Wild Swing (Pariah, Brion Stoutarm, Wrath of God)
Hands of Flame: (Blaze, Seismic Assault + 2 lands, Furnace of Wrath + Burn Spell) - Red has problems with artifacts and 4+ toughness. This is normal. Probably should have a shatter or a demolish in the deck.
Wings of Light: (Wrath of God, Mass Calcify)
Teeth of the Predator: You're boned unless they're dumb enough to block. The CPU will block allowing a Giant Growth. Online you shouldn't be playing this deck.
Thoughts of Wind: Persuasion, Unsummon*, Remove Soul**, Cancel**, Boomerang*, Evacuation* (Counterbore**, Put Away**)
Eyes of Shadow: Consume Spirit, Mind Rot*** (Plague Wind, Mind Shatter***, Corrupt)
Ears of the Elves: Naturalize, Eyeblight's Ending (Jagged Scar Archers, Lys Alana Scarblade, Nath of the Gilt-Leaf***)
Scales of Fury: Naturalize, Violent Ultimatum (Blightning***, Threaten****, Flameblast Dragon)
*: Temporary - Use after you get your opponent to < 0 life or 0 cards in library.
**: Counter - Counter it while coming into play
***: Discard - Discard it while in the hand
****: Temporary+ : Use ONLY after you get your opponent to < 0 life.
Man, I drift away from G&T for a little while and I miss the first expansion. Is there a general thought from people about whether it's worth it? I loved this game at first but people stopped playing it often so I did too.

I would suggest getting the 100% achievement first. Otherwise you could do much worse for $5.
Can anyone explain to me why you can't see your opponent deck before playing anymore? I used to dodge all those green-black players and now that everyone using the blue-white deck I get tired of playing black over and over again.
Is it because usually when you play someone (in real life) you don't tell him which deck you would use?
On the one hand I can no longer avoid the xth elf deck in a row. On the other hand I also can no longer spend five minutes faffing with my deck to match up to my opponent. I wasn't one for changing deck to best match opponent but couldn't resist swapping in/out the colour specific counter cards from the unlocks.
Game's just start now, no fuss, get in there and play!
Ajani (campaign #13) is pretty much my go-to AI when I want to unlock cards. Slow deck and you can easily expect for him to Rampant Growth like crazy just to get his big creatures out.
Duels of the Planeswalkers Expands to PC, PS3 in 2010
Are you ready to take your Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers experience to a higher level? You'll be able to do just that in 2010 as Wizards of the Coast will launch two more expansion packs plus extend the game to PC and PlayStation 3.
Duels of the Planeswalkers continues to be one of the most downloaded games on Xbox LIVE Arcade. On the heels of the first expansion released in October, the 2010 expansions are scheduled for spring and summer of next year. Similar to the first expansion, the two releases will feature new cards, planeswalkers, and challenges, and will be offered in English, French, Italian, Spanish, and German.
Also planned for the summer of 2010 is the release of the PC version of Duels of the Planeswalkers. The PC version will offer the same style of gameplay as the XBLA title, along with an extra bonus we can't tell you about quite yet.
The 2010 plan continues into the fall with the release of Duels of the Planeswalkers on PlayStation 3. The PS3 version will be available in Japanese in 2011.
well I'm kinda pissed that the PC gets a bonus being that I have already sunk money into the XBLA one. If it is better deck customization I will be real pist.

Doggs,
Just picked this shit up. Haven't played Magic since like...Ice Age. Hit me up @ deadlyrhetoric if you want an easy win.
Or to mentor me.
My roommate plays Magic a lot and I suspect may be kinda nasty...so if I kick your ass, it might be him playing on my behalf.
Can someone please explain to me how in the hell you are supposed to know which cards you've unlocked for your decks by opponent?
I'm trying to get 100%, but I bounced around on some of the decks and didn't just go straight down the opponent list so now I've got all these cards, but I have no idea who else I am supposed to play. Its extremely frustrating.

I think you misunderstood something somewhere. If you win a game (single player or online) you unlock a card for the deck you used. Your opponent isn't a factor in this.
I picked this up over the weekend because I wanted to play some magic on the fly, and man are those computer players cutthroat. I'm still stuck on the first black deck encounter.
For me I'm kind of glad I can't build a deck from scratch because honestly I seem very very bad at this. I wish online had 2 player co-op though cause I don't have a lot of friends that like Magic that much that want to play on 360 at my apartment.
So umm...I had my first match last night online against 3 players, one who had the relics of doom deck...
After putting myself and another player out, lots of thropters came out thanks to a card effect, and when that happened the other player was stupid enough to play coat of arms...
Really not sure how many artifice beasties Mr Relics of Doom had, but there was a lot, a hell of a lot! (the thropter spawning made each of his turns last easily between 5 and 10 minutes, maybe more) By the end of his final turn he managed to do nearly 1350 damage, with each thropter dealing 36 damage each!!
Never been a fan of massive overkill (I feel it's a dick move, if you need to do 5 damage to win and you do 6, 10 or even 20, fine. Once it starts going over 50, you're just being a knob) and I do feel for the guy who got bounced that badly.
Well anyway, this is a game that although I'm not bad at, I could probably do with some improvement. Hit me up on XBL and we'll play sometime (tag is same as Forum Name)
Wizards Announces Duels of the Planeswalkers Expansion #2
Wizards of the Coast
Wednesday, March 10, 2010
Sorin Markov, the ancient vampire sangromancer, has returned to Zendikar for reasons he is keeping to himself. This second expansion pack for Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers features new cards and new decks to add to your arsenal. Now you can wield the power of Nicol Bolas's "Eons of Evil" deck, unlock three new cards for all existing decks, or defeat the new single-player campaign to unlock Rhys the Redeemed's "Heart of Worlds" and Chandra Nalaar's "Heat of Battle" decks. This expansion pack also contains five new puzzling challenges, three new achievements and personas, host migration for multiplayer, and avatar attire awards all to test your Magic skills. Are you prepared to defy the Master of Shadows?
Sounds about like the last expansion; 3 new decks, 3 new cards for each existing deck, 5 challenges, 3 achievements. Only really exciting thing is 'Attire Awards' - I assume this is clothes for your avatar?

Uhh, massive overkill is not a dick move in the slightest. If they want to give you free turns for no reason to draw an answer by all means please do.
I heard a dirty rumor that the new expansion was coming out this week, but I can't seem to find a date on it anywhere. Confirm/deny? My Google-fu is failing me.

Can see why you might be popular round these parts....
Seriously though. The problem is that the guy with the relics deck got the jump on the other players early, so it was never about giving away free turns...
There was nothing anybody could do to stop him as by the time it was down to just two players, he had amassed a load of (flying) tokens.
The other guy...4 creatures, none with flying. Or something like that. So how is dealing that much damage, when you know there's NOTHING the other guy could do about it, anything other than a dick move?
No idea when the new expansion is coming, but I see it has Avatar awards. Woo!
I'll certainly be picking up the expansion in the fullness of time though I'm still plugging away at all the unlocks on the first expansion. It's a fantastic game for scratching my occasional CCG itch without massive effort or expense and for that I love it to bits.
Fired up today for the first time ina while and was working on the Red/Green Warriors deck. It's a beast.
Yeah, all 3 decks from the expension are beasts. Don't believe those who say that the U/W deck suck, they just don't know how to play defensively and dry their opponent's deck.
I had more trouble with the landfall deck than any of the others in the new campaign.
Also, the new AI is dumb as a rock at the medium difficulty. Just dumb, dumb, dumb. I can't tell you how many times I've won games against it when it just didn't attack for the kill, or swung with a 1/1 leaving back a 3/3 to block, or swung with a single 1/1 instead of all four against an empty board with over 10 life.
Or played a hasty critter ... or even a giant growth ... in second main.
Or kicked Torch Slinger when I didn't have a creature and he did, forcing him to kill his own board.
I'm still slowly working my through the deck unlocks in the first expansion, but will move on to this soon enough.
Contains:
Three new playable decks, including Nicol Bolas's "Eons of Evil" Planeswalker deck
Three new unlockable cards for each of the eight original decks plus the three decks from expansion 1
Five new puzzling challenge levels
Three new achievements
Host migration for multiplayer
Avatar attire awards
Avatar attire can be seen here and is rather nifty looking.

EDIT: To see what cards you unlocked you go to the deck editor during the deck selection screen, which I think is Y.

I'd really like the ability to build your own decks for more variety, but I see why it's not there.
For $10–15 it's such a good deal though, if you've ever played Magic before.

So far I'm on the second match vs Nicol I believe.
I thought it was kind of wierd to include another mono-red deck that it just seems is a better version of the original one that came with the game.
we should do another tourney!
