Well just picked up some points and came home. Too bad I will have to wait to be able to play. Also I feel bad for the developers. They want their game to succeed and no one can even play it.
So to pass the time , what was the rare in your first booster pack? Terroh Vengeance. Cool white spell card , too bad my first deck was black and green.
Good god I can't even remember that question. Knowing my luck, it was something terrible. I have the worst luck with boosters.
I went to the Mirrodin prerelease back in the day, I got THREE of those terrible chokers. Needless to say I did not do amazing.
I think my favorite deck I ever played in t2 was the Astral Slide deck, that deck was just tricksy enough to be amazing. I also enjoyed cogs (Mirrodin deck based around 1 mana artifacts), faeries, and the Graveborn Muse deck. Oh, and Dragonstorm was a lot of fun when they reprinted it, I forget the set that was. Whenever it was when you stormed for four dragons that dealt five damage upon coming into play. I enjoy cool combos and decks that win through lots of small, tricky advantages.
I remember the flavor text of the Mirai : "it gives you everything you want but nothing you need". That was pretty much my experience with boosters. Super cool looking cards but nothing I ever actually needed for whatever deck I had at the time.
Gah, I had to look at some Faerie decklists. That's just the kind of deck I'd love to play, but there's no way on earth I'm spending a small fortune putting it together.
I think I have everything but the lands. Non basic lands are always the most fucking expensive things. Especially Mutavault. Fuuuuuck Mutavault.
Edit: It's cheaper than it used to be. 12 something it looks like. Which doesn't sound that bad in my head, and then I'm like "fucking shit I need four." I might load up mtgo and see what I need and how much that shit will cost me.
To be more specific, if I was still single and playing MTGO on a regular basis, I would totally build a variant on this deck. However, married, it's a completely different story: the time & money required of serious Magic playing is something that I just don't have access to (well, without risking a failed marriage which is something I don't want).
I think I built the non land core of faeries for about 100ish, which isn't too bad. I think Ravager Affinity was the most expensive deck in t2 in recent memory (recent being relative I suppose). The thing I like about mtgo is the time though. I can find a match at midnight, sitting at home in my underwear watching The Tonight Show. That's always been a big plus to mtgo for me.
I'm a MTGO fan as well. You just can't beat the ability to draft whenever you want. Now if they'd just bring back leagues...
wow, leagues have been gone so long i completely forgot about them. leagues were the best, constant playing with very very little investment. I still draft on MODO but I prefer paper
I haven't spent a dime since leagues went away and I won't spend another until they come back. For me leagues were cheap practice so I could draft somewhat effectively. Without them the learning curve for a new block is way to expensive.

i have no idea what my first rare from a pack was
this is because i already had received a lot of cards from my uncle and my brother who bought a portal starter thing so it's hard to remember
I'm not in it for the free card, I just miss playing. Of course we used to play 4-6 player free-for-alls. Lot of fun, never worried about unbalanced cards or crap like that. We eventually stopped playing because one asshole always argued about such and such rule when he would lose. It got so bad I printed up the extended rules from Crystal-Keep. Fucker still argued :x
Probably not an issue for you anymore, but in case it ever comes up, you can get a rules question answered on the official MtG Rules forums in literally seconds. Every once in a while when we'd run into a real doozy of a question, we'd postpone the game for a couple minutes and get an answer right then.
(That works better at a buddy's house than at some kind of tournament, obviously. But tournaments have judges, even if they -- unfortunately -- sometimes rule incorrectly.)

So is there a card list or deck list out with regards to what's included in each preconstructed deck, or is that still hush-hush?
I'll go one better, is there an ETA on when the download will work yet?
Kinda curious, who else is getting this largely because of the free foil Garruk?
that is about half of why i am getting it, since i already have a loooot of physical cards (and soon a deck that could use garruk)
but also online mtg whenever i feel like it sounds great
To answer my own question. I quit magic some time ago and even after selling my collection i still have THOUSANDS of commons i'll never be rid of and kinda swore to not buy magic again. And i saw this game but was really turned off by the lack of deck construction and initially decided to pass. But since it comes with a free Garruk and i've been needing him for the next version of a casual deck i have (but have been too cheap to buy them)it was pretty easy decision to reverse.
As for my first booster, i honestly have no idea. The Earliest purchase i can remember making was a 4th starter and a bunch of FE and chronicles. So it was probably something horrible like Deep Spawn.
Rather then trying to comb through every post to see who wanted their gamertag added to the OP, PM me your gamertag if you want to be added to the OP for some online matches.
can some one set up a PA MTGDotP metatag? I am running low on friend space for xbl.
I'd love to, but I don't know how to >.> If you can explain or give me a link I'll try and do it.
Yeah, Serra Angel and Sengir Vampire were two of the best uncommons ever. Along with sinkhole and force of will.
I remember the beat down box with the ernham djinn vs sengir vampire theme. I loved that. My brother bought that as a present for me a while ago. Ahh I miss that.

No one can even download the game yet. Microsoft is having technical issues.
But I thought they'd send out some review codes before every DD release? I wasn't aware reviewers got to play these games on the same day as the rest of the planet.

Actually Sinkhole was common even, and you're forgetting Hypnotic Specter as well.
Wait were sengir and serra not rares in 4th? I thought they were.... either way I got those and my friend was upset.
A quick check on Gatherer confirms they were Uncommon.
But remember back then that there was no way to tell the rarity of the cards. As demonstrated by my Wisp for Firebreathing trade, a lot of people weren't even aware of the concept of rarity yet.
And don't forget that, despite their higher supply, demand was much higher for them than other cards. Which explains why their single prices were higher than most rares.

Weren't there no rares until a certain edition? I thought early on in the game everything was common or uncommon.
Short answer: No, every set had rares.
Long answer: The actual math behind the rares varies, but even in sets with only a common sheet and uncommon sheet, there were still at least 3 rarities. Fallen Empires is the closest to not having rares, but it still had both U1 and U3 rarity cards (one copy per uncommon sheet and three copies per uncommon sheet respectively). But most sources just list the U1 cards as R for simplicity.
Aside: I have a sheet for a different card game (.hack//ENEMY). They're not nearly as exciting as they sound.

There were rares, but not always. The rarity back then was all messed up. You had common 1-4, unc 1-3 and rare 1 (indicating 1-4 copies on a sheet of cards). Alot of the smaller sets like fallen empires, homelands and the dark didnt even have rares.

Its different for different games.
Plus it might be better this way. If the review was bad, then alot of people won't buy it. And if it was good, then your average impulse buyer goes to purchase it and can't. Thus becoming disgruntled or just not interested enough to go back when its working.

Loved my Sengirs. I finally managed to get the four I needed some years ago.
As if a 4/4 flying creature for 5 Mana wasn't already good enough. That's one the things I hate about magic - rares make the vast number of other cards totally obsolate. I think this is also why I enjoyed the drafting tournaments so much more - you actually got to play with all cards.
Is Live still fucked up? I've been waiting to play this, and Microsoft has to go be Microsoft on launch day. Not to mention someone broke the headset plug off my controller and left the little prong inside. I can hear other people, but my microphone no longer works. So no team play until I get a goddamned new controller.
My money is on tomorrow. I wish that when stuff like this happened they would always throw their Gold subscribers a bone like they did with Undertow, but it's just that, wishful thinking.
Besides, it's not like another day is going to kill anybody.
I was going to buy Sam and Max today but I guess this gives me time to actually play Hit the Road for the first time beforehand.

Not yet. We're all waiting.
I fondly remember splitting a box of The Dark, and getting an Uncle Istvan and Leviathan.

It is? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFf...well rare now at any rate :P
Then after that I still have my 5th edition blinking spirit. He was the second I think.
