I really like lookouts, but Robotic Noir really appeals to my everything.
See when I first heard it idea of Robot Noir, I was all, fuck yes.

But the single page really didn't grab me as strongly as Lookouts did.

Lookouts as far as I am concerned is an OK concept which is brilliantly executed.

Automata on the other hand was my favourite concept but just didn't seem all the strong to me.

Pretty much the same here. Gabe and Tycho did say Automata was a bit out of their comfort-zone stylistically, and you can tell.

The thing about automata that irks me is that it's the plot line of every other robot story (gross exaggeration, obv.) But robots fighting for their rights, it seems so over played. Astro-boy, Appleseed(somewhat), Metropolis, Ghost in the shell(sorta), and a handful of other animes. Maybe its just overplayed in anime, wait, BladeRunner and I'm sure another few movies as well.

Then again, kids in a magical world is also rather overplayed, but not as much in the Lookouts sense, since the lookouts aren't pre-teens/teens from an alternate realm. Though I haven't seen actual magic being used in that universe yet, but a fantastical world none the less.

You don't know what the story is going to be about.

For all you know the subtext of robots fighting for rights just might be a minor theme and most of it is about solvin' crime which I totally dig.

the Premise for Automata is that Robots DON'T have rights. The fight is over. They lost. After the remaining batch is gone there are no more sentient robots.

I don't even think it's fair to call that the premise of it. That's just a chunk of the setting that they just so happened to go into a little bit on that page. I didn't really get the impression that a full-blown Automata story would be about robot discrimination. It's gonna be about them searching for whoever keeps killing singers.

Basically. The singers just happen to be robots.

i don't really know why you'd want the PA guys doing semi-serious noirish stuff. It's not even remotely their strong suit. Lookouts on the other hand, looks amazing.

their very best and most favourite illegitimate child nonetheless.

I think Gabe will really dig it anyway. They did that forum-inspired broodax edit back then, so it could happen.
