This is obviously not any sort of solid EA confirmation, but someone is listing Mirror's Edge 2 on their profile who works at Dice. Link to the Joystiq post below. And yes, I know, it's Joystiq, but it's also something.
EA revealed this morning that they will be bringing their action adventure game Mirror's Edge to the iPhone. The original Mirror's Edge was a first person action game that on the PC and home consoles featured an amazing amount of fluidity in the chains of acrobatics required to traverse the various buildings of the city the game takes place in.

In Mirror's Edge, you play as Faith, a member of a secret group known as "Runners" who act as couriers for information that cannot be transmitted in other means due to the totalitarian regime that has taken over and implemented a policy of extremely intrusive surveillance across the game-world.
We don't have a whole lot about iPhone version of the game, but the original had an excellent sense of speed and immersion as you jump, climb, grab, and vault over things jumping from rooftop to rooftop. As seen in the new iPhone screenshots, the view has obviously shifted from first to third person on the iPhone, so it should be interesting to see how much of what made the PC and home console version of the game great translates to the App Store.

It should be noted that the game has already been successfully translated into a 2D side scrolling Flash game hosted at MirrorsEdge2d.com — so this is not completely uncharted territory. The iPhone version does appear much more advanced than the Flash version with 3D graphics and "dynamic camera angles" as seen in the screenshots embedded below.

Hehehe. It was short, but I really like Mirrors Edge's effort. I'm really sick of gun games and I loved that using no guns is not only fun, but makes sense.
I'll never forget Play's ramblings about titties in video games, and approve of Faith being a real classy lady. They still gush over Faith to this day.

The fiver I spent to get this on Steam was totally worth it for reminding me how awesome it is to run, jump, do a 180, and fall on your ass.
The two completely different states this game was able to inspire from me were quite interesting. Most of the experience was tranquil. Faith raced from rooftop to rooftop, slinging down zip lines and wall kicking up onto platforms. It was amazingly relaxing to acrobatically explore the skyline of the city.

Great music, made me think and feel awesome as I scaled it. I love this game. (I skipped most cut scenes, didn't like them though)
So, as I said in the Steam thread: this game needed way less story and way more missions. And fewer enemies.
It was very late-90's in terms of storytelling. Very direct, very silly, and very ending with a helicopter on a rooftop.
I want a game where I run to make deliveries, and try to find the best possible route. Make a player model that actually functions and allow for replays, and I'd give you a lot of money.
Also, for a game that dedicated so much time to making the first-person perspective feel right, they really loved ripping you out of it every time something interesting started to happen.

The problem with the model is that First Person on a computer screen doesn't work like real first person, so they have to fuck with a few things.
Also, for a game that dedicated so much time to making the first-person perspective feel right, they really loved ripping you out of it every time something interesting started to happen.

I do feel like they didn't really make use of runners as couriers very well. I think dodging enemies or time based missions would have been great, to get certain documents to certain clients on time.
Every single cutscene involved going into bad-flash-o-vision.
None of that should ever have happened. I shouldn't know what Faith looks like from anything but the box cover and mirrored windows.
Edit: And yeah, that's what I meant about late-90's pacing. It's like they didn't believe anyone would think a game about being a courier was fun so they had to spice it up with shadowy evil and mysterious non-mystery and helicopter rooftop escapades.
Just give me a package, a location, and a time limit. Then let me find the fastest route. The only reason I even finished the game was so I could unlock the races.

BUT THE CORRUPT MAYOR AND OPPRESSION IN A SOCIALLY COMPLICIT ANTI-UTOPIA OMG BEST STORYLINE EVAR!
Honestly, I didn't think it was all THAT bad (though it was pretty bad), but considering Half-Life pulled the whole "always first person" thing quite well, perhaps there's something there to consider.
Mostly I just wish the had made this open world with runner missions to do, and let the evil company story do it's own thing at your own time. It almost makes me think this was supposed to be open world based on the detailed map they had strung together that you see at times.

Precisely. They did a good job with the perspective, and I noticed how, for instance, hugging someone actually looked something like it does in real life. The in-engine stuff was perfectly fine, and there could have been a lot more of it.
Hell, give me a chance to run to mercs lair myself, and hop down.
The most egregious example of ripping you right out of things was
Uncovering the "mysterious sniper". After a decent chase sequence and a reasonably interesting fight, you've got her down, ready to expose her secret! ... annnnd they switch to a cutscene. Because it's so much cooler to see a cutscene of you chasing after and unmasking the person you've just chased and beaten in a fight.
There's a lot of room for creativity in the engine that they developed, and they didn't take advantage of much of it.

I wouldn't call it "quite well". Freeman is still just a mute, floating gun who does what everyone tells him to do without question. It's cool how they made the whole game first-person, but they did it at the expense of Freeman's personality.

The problem is most people decry the viewpoint switch as 'breaking the immersion' or something similar... 'Taking them out of the game/moment'... Except, without the ability to select dialog, to interact with people or the environment, it's just so much horseshit. And entire game where you can do practically anything you want and now we're going to fence you in and force you to watch this.
It's still basically the same in third-person sure, but at least you know your involved in exposition or whatever. Skip it, pause it, ignore it... But in first-person, all interaction treats the player like a thing in the room and not a nominal person involved in the current events.
Ever play the game Breakdown? There are no cutscenes except for the occasional 'boxes' where you have to watch and wait for them to play out and open the door to be on your way. The game was hardly the stuff of legends and occasionally you had input on dialogue responses (the only time the PC ever speaks...), but you felt so disconnected from everything. Even though you could move around and change where you were looking, it was too sterile... More boring than switching viewpoints has ever been.
Where is she jumping from in this picture? The posture of the model indicates that she's falling, but there's nothing to indicate where from... unless she just let go of that massive bird almost directly above her. That would be amazing.

Well you do see a reflection at some points in the game, so I imagine you'd have to model the character to look natural when doing certain actions, but not others.
Is this game somewhat hard to find? I haven't been able to find any copies here in town new/used, and I tried looking online, and couldn't find any used or new copies on amazon.ca either. Was hoping to get this since I rented it and beat the thing in one go, it's pretty much my favourite xbawx game.

It certainly isn't difficult to find here in England. Picked up a brand new sealed copy for my PS3 in my local game store a little while back for £5 and there are still plenty of copies lurking around. I've only played the tutorial level so far because I keep getting distracted by other games and DVD's but so far it looks quite enjoyable.

Hold back (as in the S button) after pressing the turn button to do a backflip.
It has next to no gameplay use, it's only useful when you are about to land on the big square cushions, it saves you a bit of time.
