The funny part, is that I used to be able to farm the shit out of Salvage, and I actually had a nice little system going to get myself quite a nice bit of coin. Nothing outrageous, just enough to be able to afford whatever SO's I wanted to buy.

I don't think I can even remember how I did that, all of these months later.

Guess I'll have to find out.

Put my new system together last night and gave it a brief test run on CoX. Wow, what a difference. It's going to be nice to play the game on a system that can actually handle it for a change.

After three years (specifically, a week into the Rikti Invasion issue, when smoke started coming out of my computer :( ) I am back! And...wow, things are different. Way different. But good different! My new guy is leveling like whoa, my friend has rolled up a dual guns defender and is completely amazing, the new Positron task forces are so goddamned good and my old SG is drowning in prestige! And on top of it all, the Fifth Column are back!

The only downsides I can see so far are that after all this time the dimensions are still not in alignment to assault the Cathedral of Pain ( :? ) and, as I discovered in those TFs, level 50 is still no guarantor of a random player having even remotely an idea of what they are doing. Oh well. Swings and roundabouts. None of it can touch my giddy good mood.

So I just want to warn you guys that I might be a font of stupid questions for at least a little while.

I tried coming back. Really did. Man, I was bored. But in spite of that, CoX is top 1 or 2 MMO of all time, even if I can't get as engaged as I used to. I wish you all tons of fun!

So is Bizarro World real? AS in are Defenders actually getting a buff because that combined with the expansion would be enough to make me at least think about buying the expansion.

    This is what Defenders got:
    Vigilance for Defenders Upgraded

    * The Vigilance inherent power has been improved to give benefits to Defenders who are not in groups. To that end, in addition to the increasing Endurance discount in groups, Vigilance now adds a damage buff which only applies fully when solo. The damage buff degrades as more team members are added. The buff starts small and increases until it is a 30% increase to (unenhanced) damage at level 20 and above, minus 10% per additional team member.

So basically, great for solo, OK for 2-3 person teams, useless for full teams.

Right. It works out well, since you'd be blasting a lot solo and in small teams, while most of your efforts would be going towards buffs/heals/etc. in a full team.

Unless you're one of the primaries that doesn't have any buffs, and doesn't need to heal much.

    then you're applying debuffs?

no defenders have no buffs or debuffs or heals, as far as i'm aware.

Admittedly, I haven't played since this change was brought in, but with my Dark or Storm Defenders, my main dissatisfaction is that half my powers (my blasts) are useless on a team if looked at for their primary attribute, damage.

No other AT really seems to suffer from the "your secondary is pointless if teamed" problem that Defenders have. If you have a couple of controllers or corruptors on your team, you've got more than enough buffs, debuffs, and heals and get control and significant damage as well.

And with GR meaning all ATs will be available on all sides, I can't really see a reason I'd want a defender on my team over a corruptor, if given a choice.

It sounds like they are basically admitting that they prefer the way corruptors' powers are balanced. Which is great because hey, corruptors are better.

That being said I doubt it really matters, because nothing is challenging enough to make other team members actually care that a corruptor does 15% more damage or whatever. People who are forming teams just take the first bunch of people they can find, and if they're specifically looking for support they aren't going to care that much whether it's a defender or a corruptor.

The team might not care, but that doesn't make the actual class any more fun to play on teams; Corruptors are fun to play on top of decent support. Defenders, for most people, just aren't.

Thats the main issue for me. Dyscord is right, most of the content can pretty much be trivialized with whatever combination of damage + support you can assemble.

Its just so boring playing a defender on a team.

I honestly don't think the problem for defenders is corruptors, I think it's controllers. Realistically corruptors' damage is going to feel nearly as lackluster as defenders' once they get to play with the big boys (blasters and scrappers), and controllers contribute functionally the same debuffs while contributing something infinitely more useful than subpar damage.

PA folk mostly play on the Virtue server. It and Justice(the unofficial PvP server) are the only 2 that have significant populations left playing.

Not sure about SGs, most of my characters just hang out in the PA ones to use the teleporters.

Freedom is still fairly active, but I hardly ever play the alts I have over there.

The PA supergroups are mostly full of inactive alts, but the bases are paid up. Anyone can invite, so if you ask in global someone will probably be able to take care of you.

It's not about directly comparing them to other classes (and it's not like Brutes and Masterminds are wimpy DPS-wise), it's about how powerful you feel versus the enemies the game throws at you. It doesn't matter that the Blaster is doing more damage overall than you, because you're seeing numbers fly and mooks melt. You're kicking ass.
Unless you're a Defender, in which case it feels like your blasts are just a waste of endurance.

And yes, Corruptors kick some mighty fine ass.

Yeah, but they mostly feel weak because of the comparison to other characters. Maybe people who don't play blasters don't notice corruptor blasts being underpowered, but I really notice it when my blasters can shred a spawn in one rotation of aoes and my corruptors just... can't.

Corruptors don't have the experience of having pretty much the same blast sets, but having noticeably less effectiveness than people on their same team. Not yet, anyway.

There are usually a few people on but sometimes it's dead as can be. There should be a nice rush of people when going rogue comes out.

Virtue is a decent enough server for public teams though so you may as well play on it.

Well I'll be damned...that is creepy close to what I suggested (and mailed to multiple devs) something like 2 years ago. Now I really will have to check out the expansion pack.

I was thinking sometime this week since my weekend is pretty much trashed due to that trip to motor city I'm taking.

Maybe say a 8 or 9 PM EST start one night this week? Unless you want to run it without me over the weekend ^_^

So, I've been in an MMO mood for a while, but nothing really seemed to be worth buying or resubbing. I just resubbed this, and we'll see how it goes, but I haven't played since before they started this "issue" nonsense. So I'm expecting lots of changes. Wish me luck, I guess.
