Man. I didn't want to have Imoen in my party at all the second time around, but I guess it's either that or have a 5 man party all the way through the Underdark.
5-man is entirely doable.
As is one, provided they have access to mage magic.
True, but I wouldn't want my first solo run to start after hitting Spellhold - without adequate preparation, at least.
re. Gromnir: Zell's comment is why I didn't include him - he's there to justify the conclusion, more than anything else.
OK, I kind of take back what I said about Imoen, the ToB dialogue between her and Edwin about being a Child was fantastic. Trying to make her victimized was a mistake because since every aspect of her personality is so cheerful, in situations where that would not be appropriate she is only capable of "Give me my soul back you monster!" or "I am so upset about losing my soul!"

I find it very difficult to leave Imoen behind. Once I knew her story, it just felt so wrong not to bring her to the conclusion. I also found her the most inherently interesting character in the game - I started with SoA, and was really impressed with her early lines. To be sure, there are a few losses later.
Yes, he levels up pretty fast especially if you boot the majority of your party to handle things in Saradush, only to bring them back in when you fight Gromnir (unless you don't have Ascension installed, then you could probably take him on too).
I had them both together, and the one time Jan tried to steal Boo was funny, but other than that he mostly tells stories that are like 3 paragraphs long that are not funny at all. I just stopped reading them. Although the dumb part referred more to his 16 Int and thief/mage multiclass, which makes him extremely limited as a spellcaster.
Jan is dumb with or without Minsc. He's just a typical "I'M GOING TO SAY RANDOM THINGS BECAUSE I'M WACKY" dude, and that's never as funny as the writers want it to be.
Jan is brilliant, the select/movement etc. lines are w/e but the actual conversations written for him are always good. Not to mention his fantastic epilogue.

I've always slaughtered Edwin on sight. This is due to one reason and one reason only. The first time I played BG1 and ran into him, I killed him because I had named my character Edwin as well. Later, I imported my character into BG2.
I was surprised to see him again. I was not as surprised to see he was as stabbable as ever.
Gearing up for another run through the whole thing via Tutu, and I've never seriously tried dual classing before. I've read the basics, and I've heard kensai/mage is crazy broken and ranger/cleric is a viable solo build, but I don't know much about dual classing beyond stat requirements and weapon restrictions.
It won't be a solo run, though I haven't settled on who to bring along. Are any combos particularly fun or useful? Is a thief/cleric or cleric/thief of some sort just going to get the shit beat out of them most of the time? I'm very open to suggestions.
So Imoen just turned level 18 and now can cast level 9 spells. I thought only people with 18 int could cast level 9 spells?
In 3rd edition, you need 19 int to cast them, but there's no such rule in 2e that I know of. I haven't read the rules specifically in years, though, so I could very well be wrong, its not like BG follows them to the letter.
I think you just need to be the right level. Intelligence in 2e just affects how many spells you can cast, how many spells you can have of each level in your spellbook, as well as success % to scribe spells. I think.

Ah. Interestingly, I remember reading the explanation of that chart as my interpretation in the manual, although I can't find it now, and I read an FAQ on IWD2 that said the same thing about BG2. Maybe the ToB granted spells unlocked it somehow?

It's not really a very good idea.
How would an Imoen romance mod work?
Well, the word 'undead' is there for a reason...
I resent being forced to do Saradush before Watcher's Keep.
The best thief in TOB:
I also resented
i find your dislike of jan disturbing, do you have him and not minsc? you really should have both in the party at the same time, comedy gold.

I need fewer stupid comic relief characters in my RPGs.

Mind, I've never actually tried it so I have no idea if its viable or not.
Pluto was a planet and I'll never forget
can only backstab with weapons that a thief can use.

Saving throws. Probably "save vs spell".
