I-pod problem [solved]

I just got a strange error today on my I-pod.

While trying to sync it, I got the message "unknown USB device." I-tunes never recognized it and I hoped that it would be fixed if I just restarted my computer (this has been a problem once before and a restart was the solution though it caused an error on the HD. This required a complete re-sync of all the music from the computer back on to the i-pod but that wasn't a big deal as it just took about 30 min of my time.) However, that didn't help this time.

Upon the restart, my computer found a "new usb device" proceeded to install the drivers then tell me the ipod was again a "unknown USB device." I tried this on my dad's computer with the same results.

The only think I can think of that will fix it is letting the battery die and trying then.

Can you guys think of any other solution or is that my last hope?
