I have a Belkin router setup as a wireless access point until I can get something worth the plastic it's molded in.
Currently having some problems. The Belkin has a WEP key. I can either enter it manually or it will do it for me based on a pass phrase. Problem is, regardless of how I set it up, nothing happens. I click apply, nothing happens.
I checked the user guide and it said that I needed to set the encryption on my operating system, and more specifically, on my wireless cards, to the corresponding setting.
How do I do this?
I've never had to do this before when setting up a WEP key. I've never had to do this when trying to login to WEP protected routers everywhere else.
If the wireless access point is properly configured to use WEP (you really should be using WPA, or better yet WPA2), the computers should prompt you for the key when you attempt to connect to the network.
if you are still having problems with the wireless security and are planning on buying a better AP, cough WRT54GL, you could just disable SSID brodcast to keep most other out while you wait for the new AP.
