Have the carts in a subterranean area, visible only through glass, and have the rest of the map set up like a 5CP, only without the CPs. It'd end up playing like Arena with respawn, so maybe have CPs that when captured, divert the path of the payload for the other team so it has to take a longer route. This way it would still have the air of a 5CP map, but you can still win solely by focusing all your attention on slaughtering rather than capturing.
Or with the CPs. Have PLR just be normal payload except both teams attack/defend. At the same time. Payload point to payload point.
and every time ive been autoswitched from the 'rolling team' to the 'losing team' i notice these things: losing team class makeup is fucking terrible. will often have 0-1 medic and like 6 support classes like engi/sniper/spy. no one is talking at all. out of the three engis, none of them have any teleporters up
I've noticed the same trend in the past so I'll usually comment that there's nobody to heal on this team and switch to soldier for rocket spam.
I tried to medic before, but the urge to dash out with my 12 ft bonesaw in hand is too great. I'm so fast compared to how I usually play, and people need to be cut to ribbons.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
Besides the pretty graphic, that's literally nothing but "first to 50" team deathmatch with the cart as an illustration of your team's points.
Yeah that map seems pretty stupid. The only difference between it and DM is that you have to walk over the souls I guess? So just have a bunch of ranged classes with a scout or spy running around picking up souls? Or would it just turn into a medic/pyro fest where whichever team was lucky enough to burn 50 people first won? Meh. Sometimes I think people try to hard with these maps, some of the "outside the box" ideas are neat, like balloon race, but when you have people making maps different just for the sake of being different, and not because it would actually be fun, it's just stupid.

No, the video shows the souls going right to the cart

Oh, well that is even worse. I didn't watch the entire video, the giant empty room with two carts in it wasn't very interesting.
So then yeah, I guess it is team DM with carts instead of a score board. Might have been an interesting concept in 1998 or something.
also I switched from the ambassador because it sux now and have been literally owning with the revolver. it was made for use with the dead ringer. literally

edit: the real reason that soul map exists is so when you get the cart really bumpin you get to yell SOUUUUL TRAAAAIN

I still don't like the Dead Ringer over the regular watch or C&D. The DR has it's uses for sure, but overall I think it's highly situational and not a good overall choice.
I think a good spy can cause much more havoc behind enemy lines with the regular watch.
I think it really depends on the caliber of players you are playing with too. When playing against a team with dedicated spy checkers or just very paranoid players, I think the DR is next to useless. It might allow you to get behind enemy lines for a quick sap or stab fest, but you won't last long. The regular watch allows you to stay behind enemy lines for extended period of time.
To each is own I suppose, but after playing with all three watches extensively I've come to accept the C&D as being awesome on defense, the regular watch as awesome for offense or defense, and the DR as being good for the first spawn of a round or getting through tight choke points that are under heavy fire (very situational, as I said before).

Now that you can basically chain DR to invincibility it's pretty useful.
Edit: Uh,

Just thought I would say that this is perhaps my favorite TF2(3?) OP ever. Commendable. I understand you went through a lot to get this info for us. Thank you.
the DR is leeeeaggguees better than the C&D and on par with the normal watch. It takes a significantly different play style, which i'm bored of posting about by now.

I meant the game mode, and you know it. I think the context of the post made that obvious, which you conveniently left out by taking the first sentence from one post and tacking on to a completely different post I made later.
Yes, I used the term "map" interchangeably with "game mode". NO, I didn't think the purpose of that video was to show off a map. Do you really think anyone is that stupid?
I just switched back to the revolver because I shot goomba literally 8 times with the ambassador and he was still walking it off. I think i'll be sticking with the oldy now that I can't rely on bullshit headshots to save me.
It doesn't keep shooting through other players like it did before, and you can only get the headshot crits when the crosshairs are at their smallest. It is now another unlock that is straight up worse than the original weapon.

so uh, that spy taunt makes you damn near invincible huh? We had at least 4 arrows in a dude, I put in 2 more, and he got hit by other stuff. he finished the taunt and then someone hit him with something and he finally died. Later while he had piss on him, i dropped two grenades in a taunting spys face and he lived, and ran off.

Man, this game is really satisfying when you finally start to crest that learning curve with the class of your choosing and pwn bitches.
Has there been any buzz about an update for the Engineer? I have no idea what the timeline on these things is, but I've been really enjoying playing Engineer on CTF maps, and I'm curious to see how they're going to provide "sidegrades" to the Engy.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying, but after you figure out what the guy is doing the maneuver is basically just a suicide move. Just wait until after the taunt ends and then murder him. I was screwing around with different classes most of the night, but once I switched to Demoman the tactic became much more amusing than irritating. Once he finished the taunt, a cluster of waiting sticky bombs ruined his day regardless of damage resistance. I even got a double domination on him with one set of explosions.
My high points for the evening include standing inches away from an engy building a sentry on the other side of a window, filling the frame with stickies while he built, and blowing it all up the second he ran off. Also, hiding under a ramp and killing several buildings and a few enemies without anyone even looking my way.

Funny really, you could have the carts in a completely seperate, though visible area.

I get the feeling that this would just play like team deathmatch in any other game, but with more spawn camping.

Is that the one with one of my favorite gaming moments ever?
It will never feel as good again jumping out of the window on point B of Gravelpit as it did that time to bonesaw Luny.

The Ambassador exclusively counters the Razorback. (Nowadays.)
Net change to gameplay = 0?
