Troubleshooting a Freezing System

Here's the tl;dr version up front: I have two virtually identical PCs. One of them is a bitch and freezes constantly. The other works flawlessly.

Long version:

The motherboard, CPU, RAM, video card, and operating system (including updates) are all identical. The only difference between the two PCs is the optical drive (both DVD burners; one's a Sony, the other's a Samsung), the case (Sonata 2 and Sonata 3), and the power supplies (a 500-watt Seasonic, and a 500-watt Antec Earthwatts, which is manufactured by Seasonic).

Both PCs were built about a month ago. One - the one that's being a big pain in the ass - has acted normally, save for the odd refusing-to-wake-from-sleep-mode moment. It started with the freezing a few days ago. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. It has frozen while idle. It has frozen while browsing the web. It has frozen halfway through a Demigod match. And there's no regular time frame. I've had it freeze literally as soon as I hit "enter" after typing my logon password, and I've had it idle, go in and out of multiple sleep cycles, and then freeze hours later while it was doing nothing at all.

To remedy this problem, I've updated drivers, run Windows Update, tried system restore, updated the BIOS, run sfc /scannow, run chkdsk multiple times, run scans with memtest86+ and Western Digital's Data Life Guard (so I'm fairly certain it's not the RAM or hard drive), and even reformatted (so I'm fairly certain it's not a software issue). None of it has fixed the freezing.

And I should be clear that when I say freezing, I mean that the computer just stops. The video stops updating, the mouse stays in place, any sound that's playing stops, and the PC becomes completely unresponsive to any input until a hard reboot.

I should note that since I disabled the onboard sound a few hours ago, I haven't had a freeze, but it's still having trouble coming out of sleep mode sometimes.

I'm really at a loss of what this could be. Any ideas? Suggestions? Most of the hardware is still under warranty, but I'd rather fix it if I can. RMAing through a manufacturer is such a pain in the ass.

I went through something similar to this just a bit ago and it turned out to be a faulty motherboard. Try isolating windows from the equation and see if the problem persists (there are some bootable disc downloads that can test various components). This is tricky because it can be many things (memory, PSU, graphics, processor...), but memory and motherboards seem to have the highest error rates for PC equipment.
