Just bought a netbook (I want to throw some D's on that...)
Ok, so I just bought a Netbook. It's one of the Asus 1000HEs that everyone loves. I bought it off of Newegg and got the 2G stick of RAM to go along with it. My question is "now what?"
For my past two laptops, I've wiped the drives and put a fresh install of Windows XP and Vista, respectively. I've been hearing folks talk about putting on Windows 7 for this one as well as some talking about putting on Mac OSX. Should I be thinking of doing either of those, or just trying to get rid of the bloatware (I don't have an external drive to do a fresh install of XP Pro).
My EEE didn't come with any bloatware just the OS and some utilities for the EEE specifically but surprisingly no crap at all. I guess you could get windows 7 on it if you are able to get a hold of a Release Candidate. You should be able to boot from an external drive or memory stick to install the new OS
No bloatware? That's pretty good. I actually don't have the Netbook in hand. UPS delivered it today, but I haven't been home from work yet.
How difficult is it to get a release candidate?
It's pretty tough. You have to go to Microsoft's website and download it. To do that, you need a computer. Not just a computer, but one with the ability to go online. Also an internet connection. Electricity to power everything. A house to put it all in. And classy hookers to ooh and aah over your new netbook.

I think the lack of classy hookers is why I have Ubuntu instead of Windows 7 on mine.
So you [strike]could[/strike] should definitely dual-boot Ubuntu and XP (or Windows 7, I suppose). Vista is not recommended because, well, there is a reason that netbooks don't come with Vista.
You should also install 10-year old games like Diablo II.
And get a mouse of some sort, because the touchpad can get annoying. At least for me.
