Chew was such a fantastic recommendation, a tip of the hat to all those who gushed about it. Picked up all the volumes on sale and, ahem, devoured them in practically one sitting. Definitely worth it.

Chew is probably the best indy comic out right now, or at least the funniest although Atomic Robo is just a wee bit funnier.

Dr. Dinosaur tips the scales in favor of Atomic Robo.

I would kill for an Atomic Robo sale. Preferably about five minutes after I finish reading through Chew. I've only got the first two volumes there. I'd love some more, especially after the good things I've heard about the later stuff after finding Vol 2 so much weaker than the first.

I'm loving Chew, but it killed my comic budget for a little while. I have to say my single favorite thing about going digital is that I don't have to feel the guilt I felt from having my pull file fill up for months. No harm in passing things up for a little while.

There's an Avengers sale over at Comixology, including part of Kurt Busiek's run, all of Geoff Johns', and it looks like all of Chuck Austen's. I plan on picking up the Busiek stuff and I assume Austen's run should be avoided, but what about Johns'?

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
    Johns' is very good, actually!

It was before he got hired over at DC and he hadn't really gotten into his writing crutches with violence and nostalgia yet.

I think The Sixth Gun is as good as Atomic Robo, but for completely different reasons than why I like AR or Chew.

  • El GuacoEl Guaco Registered User regular
Atomic Robo was what got me back into comics this year after a very long hiatus. I would pester the local comic shop owner about AR and nothing else, and I think he got tired of me asking. I no longer feel bad about buying the rest online if he can't be bothered to make sure he's carrying what his customers want.

Doesn't it include the weirdest comic-book sex scene ever though?

You need to read Austen's last Avengers arc (his second), titled "Once an Invader," issues 82, 83, 84 and New Invaders #0 (if they didn't include that issue, well that was dumb)

He co-wrote it with Allan Jacobsen, who wrote the New Invaders series. It was fantastic. USAgent, Namor, Blazing Skull, Union Jack go take down a middle eastern country. It's the best.

I thought the weirdest comic-book sex scene was between Angel and Husk in Austen's run on, what was it, X-Men?

I know ComiXology is trying to cash in on the craze surrounding The Avengers right now, but I really hope they move on to other titles and franchises soon for their Marvel Monday/Friday sales. Knowing that I have to deal with Avengers-mania is taking the fun out of the anticipation of waiting to see what they put up on those days. Would love to see some other stuff on sale for a change.

I know they've got to have a Ultimate Spider-Man sale up their sleeves after the last "Every Ultimate title except Ultimate Spider-Man" sale. That's what I want to see here pretty soon.

EDIT: Okay now I know they're screwing with me. New sale with Ultimate Comics Avengers, Ultimate Galactus, and NOTHING ELSE. I know the page shows some other things but it is wrong. Do not scroll further down the sales page, and do not purchase anything you may find lingering there.

They'll probably wait till the new Spidey movie for some Ultimate Spidey sales.

Also there are clearly at the very least the requiem issues of spidey after Ultimate Galactus....

How is Red Mass for MARS, and are there any other nifty short-runs like it? I think the reason it's cheaper than on Amazon(where most trades seem cheaper than digital), is because of how short it is.

So I just happened to watch the trailer for The Goon and discovered that Dark Horse Comics is their own online distributor. Which is OK, I guess, but it seems a shame that I will need yet another app. They have more than enough content to make it worth it.

Yeah, I think they did a Thor sale recently as well. Each sale before the movie was either Cap/Thor/Iron Man or Avengers related.

It’ll probably be a few more months until they get back around to it unfortunately, maybe when the dvd comes out, so cross your fingers.

Deadpool sale. I haven't read anything with Deadpool in it since the early 90's. Anything from this sale considered a must?
